The value of being nice

Some peoples perspective about multiboxing.

A couple of instances I have experienced recently got me to thinking.

So there I was doing SM - library to break up my questing a little with my team. I zoned in and out a couple of times and noticed one guy was just standing outside the whole time. Now as you can see from my sig I play on Chinese servers so in my poor chinese I asked if he was ok and could I help him. I suspected he thought I was a gold farmer ... Yes we do have those here on the Chinese servers also. Anway he wanted to try to get the staff from the last guy so I dropped one of my toons and invited him to group and we started out. After a moment or two trying to explain in my bad chinese and his simple english that I was playing all the toons and that he needed to follow my lead we pushed ahead. After two runs we had his staff and he was super excited and mistified by the whole boxing idea but said It looks so easy. EASY is not a word I would use for multiboxing at least during the setup and getting to know how to play your team == afterwards maybe.

I also helped a guy to down King Bangorlash in STV.

Sometimes I dont think of much as I paly and dont always consider how others may view my Boxing (running in and pulling multiple mobs then moving on). I guess if he watched me kill Bangorlash for myself then just run off he may have felt a little pissed at how easy the game appears for me from his perspective (Can kill multiple higher level mobs etc) and get a little bitchy and anti boxing.

Anyway since theses occastions I have had numorous invites to jion his and others guilds or when my toons are leveled to have them join in for the larger instances or offers of help to me. So from now on I'm going to make it a point to set a good example and help others out on the server more (not always but when I have time).

By the way so far I've found chinese players to be very polite and extremely helpful many many higher levels will OFFER help to me Boxing or solo so I guess I should follow suit.

Do anyothers have any positive boxing stories like these?

Well I have one but it ends up bad I was playing leveling through dragon blight and I saw a hunter being camped so I went over there with my l74 shamans and beat the crap out of this l80 warrior later this guy invited me to his vent and we did a few instances together and since i was un-guilded he invited me to this guild that was working on naxx. so i thought hey i will join them when im 80 raiding. im in it for about 3 days really nice people then the guild leader gets on and kicks all my guys and tells me how multi boxers and pieces of crap and i should jump off a cliff!! well 10 min later we made are own guild and it has been great since :thumbup:

I've helped many people do the Ring Of Blood type quests, both in Outland and the several different ones in Northrend and it always gets a great reaction - people just love watching a 5-box team Pew Pew mobs. Or if someone's getting camped, and asks for help in General and I'm close by, i'll fly in and drop the hammer on the campers and maybe hang around for a bit depending on how busy I am.

The Zerg on Mag actually has a pretty good rep becuase of things like this. :)

Im glad to see that you have kindness (something not usually found in the game).

Im my time of lvln i have done all instances.. got the 50quest achievment at lvl 64... I have invited people standing outside, and guildies all for free no madder what, and they get all loot (because i dont take the time 2 :)). But all in all, I think its fun having someone in the instance running around applauding you!, gets boring all alone in there u know? Even though they are taking some xp from my group its all cool!.

And whatever comes around goes around. so u know later they will help u out or lend u some cash for those 4 epic mounts ;)

I've helped the opposite side in escort quests before.

One memerable experience was the escort Q for the horde side in western HFP. This BE lock was struggling, so, nice guy that I am, decided to give him a hand. So I merrily pew pew the whole area with my DK's to clear the path for him. When I get to the end, I turn around and wonder where he had gone? I go back and find him slumped in a heap. I had forgotten that I had pestilence and Blood boil in my cast random macro on each DK, and had inadvertantly killed him! Oopsy my bad lol :D

I very often help other players.

Since I'm boxing five, I mostly stopped helping horde though. It happened few times that I killed a poor guy unwillingly. Like click on the horde player to see his level, decide that he is not a threat, move on to next mob, forget to give the system enough time to accommodate target lag, send pets in ... Oops, 4 gorillas on the poor Undead mage ... So I prefer to just ignore them most of the time.

Just like when I was single and dual boxing, I never attack first. I don't see the point of killing one character using five equivalent level ones. Well, I don't attack first unless the player made it into my KOS list, that is.

I've always helped others out - especially in the lower zones or burning crusade zones because they're nearly emtpy.
I don't help ppl through instances (don't wanna drop one toon because the amount of exp everyone got starts do differ
and the RAF bonus stops for one char). But helping out killing a single elite mob is for me "the most natural thing in the world"
(taken from babelfish - don't kick my butt if it doesn't make sense).

Usually those mobs are a one shot for my crew and I've never had a bad comment after I've explained that I play all the chars at once.
Most of them ask how it works and even a guild invited me to raid with them when I'm 80 so I got mostly positive reactions. The more
people you know, the more people know that you aren't a bot, the more defend you against smallbrainers that don't know what we're
doing and don't want to know because crying out "botter, reported!" is easier.

So showing others that you're helpful and that you're a human, not a bot makes much things easier.

what usually happens to me is this...
I drop a toon to invite someone and because i'm nice and don't need much in the way of drops, I let them loot everything.
I mean, since it's only for one run and I can easily run this instance until I get everything I want solo, why not let them have everything.
this turns into a huge WOW for the person, they make huge cash and gear so now they always want to run with me ... and I have no need of his help.
Now I'm stuck pimping out his ride and wondering why did I let this happen again.

If I do help someone I only give them one run and say CYA.

every other day i log on on my main, i'll get:
Clouds: hey el, are you busy? wanna do Nexus?
me: with who?
Clouds: just me.
me: erm... i gotta do some dailies. im a bit low on money and need to get rep. next time ok?
Clouds: sorry if im bothering you! lol


yea stuff like that. clouds is not his real in-game name.

it's good to see there's still some nice people left :) when i was boxing 2/3 chars no one rly bothered me at'all ... but since i started 5boxing my wow has changed :/ the number of times i have been called a cheater and eaven /spit on is uncountable .. is starting to turn me agansed the realm im in .... i have met another dual boxer there ... so i guess it's not all bad :) but nice to see someone with more pasiance than me :D :thumbsup:

I'm always in a hurry. I've already messaged a "cya" in the party chat, while grabbing my mount and leaving the group before he can say "thanks"
so he doesn't have a chance to start begging for more help or other quests. Usually I know the quests so I can deceide if he really needs help or is just a lazy bastard.

Yup. That's why I don't drop people from my groups to help others. If you group with them, they are much more likely to think that own you for whatever they can think up. I am more than happy to stay in my group and obliterate things for people, like the Ring quests, but but you invite people to group for an instance it quickly goes from "I just need to do this quest and I can't get a group" to "You are so fast at this! Aww, man, I was hoping he'd drop XXX. Can you run me again? And again? And again? And my friend, too? And we have a quest in this other instance..."

I'm a sucker and can't say no after I've said yes. Better to keep myself from getting in that sitation in the first place.

I'm a fairly infrequent boxer and usually two at a time, so I don't get that much attention. Mostly I've had a couple of people comment about my set-up (not in a favourable way, but not being really rude either), that usually results in me spending some time chatting to them about MB and how it's done. I've never had someone really anti-MB talking to me (except my boyfriend...).

Occasionally I get people who will watch me for a few mins and I had one higher level who wanted to group and help me kill mobs.

As there's only two of me I'm sort of limited in how much I could help, but I will probably handle it in the same way as I do on higher level toons in lower level zones. I'll help people with quests if they ask nicely (and it's a short one which they would actually need a group for) and I'd probably invite someone to a group if they needed the same mob as me for a quest (or if they run past me to tag it before me I may watch them die horribly instead).

Yeah I guess I have to agree with some of you the only real reason I let him in my group is because something has gone horribly and one of my characters had about 20-30% more xp than the rest. I guess thats from the mixed team and once I did the shaman quests it kind of put my shammy a head a little and it just got bigger and bigger. I would be more relectant to have some one join now as I have them all again within 3-6% so I dont want to mess that up to much. However decimating a group of mobs for them no problem.

Hehe, when I started I was uberpolite, explaining everyone what I did in detail, trying to promote multiboxing. But at some point I just has too many groupies. When I was high rated in 5v5 I had a lot of this kind of stuff too:

"Boost me in 5v5!"
"No."
"PLXPLXPLX"
"No."
"ILL REPORT YOU IF YOU DONT!"
"...lol"

Anyhow I'm polite to my friends, I'm neutral to everyone else. Best way to be social in WoW. In pugs, or vs strangers, I don't say much. I don't hate, I don't love. I just am and they'll have to make their own minds up about me. If I ever help someone for a quest, it's out of boredom. Not good-will. :rolleyes:

I'm on a pvp realm, but my multibox team is strictly for pve.

Anyways, while I've leveled up I've helped both alliance and horde at multiple times. I've pulled mobs off of horde/alliance guys when they accidentally had more than they could handle, or tossed them a heal when they needed it.

You know how some of the quests are rated for 3-man groups but some people want to try soloing it first to be sure? In icecrown there's a few quests like that. I showed up to kill the 3-man group mob and he really does need 3-people (or at least 2) to do. I see a level 77 alliance shaman (I am horde) fighting this boss and getting his butt kicked. He we just starting to run away but obviously wasn't going to make it. I taunted the mob and tanked it for him until it died. He got full credit for the kill. He looted, did a "/thank" and took off.

I've played under the radar pretty well on my server (only getting a few hate tells in the early levels), and the few people I've really interacted with have been people I've helped out. There aren't many boxers on my server but I'm trying to give us a good name!
