With all this talk in the other thread about /played time, it got me thinking... What do you think that the exact halfway point is for 1-70?
Pre-BC, it was widely agreed upon that halfway 1-60 was around level 40. I think if you use pure XP as an indicator, it used to be lvl 52 (halfway to 70), before they nerfed XP 20-60.
So whats the halfway point, in terms of /played time? lvl 55?

Honestly, it doesn't really matter, I've been levelin about the same pace for each level. It took me less time to go from 42-43 than it did 41-42. Its just how efficient you are.
I know full well that it doesn't matter... it's just one of those psychological barriers to a long journey :)
My fresh toons are already 45 with only 2 and 1/2 or say days played. I did quests 1-15, instances 15-44, and I'm now starting to quest again the kill quests in hinterlands = the win... I plan on doing mara quests then going back to grinding mara till 48/50ish, ST quests, then BRD quests/grinding till 57.
It's hard to tell where the real 1/2 way mark is, but it does feel like mid 40s now. However, the new experience change to quests is insane lowbie quests are giving like 5k a pop.
These days I see 60 as the goal still, as 60-70 is alot more enjoyable. So 40 is mounts and halfway to 60, 50 is the "yay 41pt talents!" and 60 is "yay more mounts and Outland!"

First target is 30... if I get there I'll carry on... I have two accounts of sub 30 alts doing nothing.
Next 35 for 225-300 Crafting (I like to craft)
Next is 40 for mounts
Then 50 for 300-375 crafting (did I say I like to craft?)
Then I don't really care, end game sucks IMO. : )
PRE 2.3:
01-60: 4 084 700
60-70: 6 762 300
Total: 10 847 000
Half: 5 423 500
Subtract the 1-60 from our half:
5 423 500 - 4 084 700 = 1 338 800
Subtract 60-61:
1 338 800 - 494 000 = 844 800
Subtract 61-62:
844 800 - 574 700 = 270 100
So, the halfway point pre-2.3 is 270 100 XP into level 62 (43.96%).
POST 2.3:
01-60: 3 378 400
60-70: 6 762 300
Total: 10 140 700
Half: 5 070 350
Subtract the 1-60 from our half:
5 070 350 - 3 378 400 = 1 691 950
Subtract 60-61:
1 691 950 - 494 000 = 1 197 950
Subtract 61-62:
1 197 950 - 574 700 = 623 250
Subtract 62-63:
623 250 - 614 400 = 8850.
So, the actual, corrected halfway point is 8850 XP into 63 (0.0136%). My problem before was that I just used 61-62 and 62-63, forgetting about 60-61. My bad on that one.

This is listed underneath the pre-2.3 table on the WoWWiki page. The old amount of XP to 60 was 4 084 700 for 10 847 000 total to 70. Half of that total is 5 423 500 which is well over the 60 mark.Quote:

I must be missing something. On an interesting note, if you add that 344 500 to my result of 270 100, you get almost exactly the amount you need to get to 63. I think that someone wrote down the wrong number on that WoWWiki page.
I also realize that I used one wrong number on my previous calcultion post. Going back to correct it now.
The problem is that these numbers don't account for the fact that your XP goes up for the level of mobs you kill.
One would think that each level = the same amount of equal level mobs killed in order to level. But I don't think thats the case either. It takes longer and longer to complete each level as you go.
The numbers I was dealing with have nothing to do with the amount of XP per mob you get. They're just flat numbers saying "you need X XP to reach level Y." The numbers do not care if you quest, grind, instance, or PL that level, but that's how much XP you will need.Quote:

The only psychologically important levels for me are 40 (mounts, yay... though 30 may take on a greater significance in the future!) and 58 (Outland, yay!).

Early on, if I remember correctly, you get 50 XP/kill at level 1, and it goes up by 5 XP per level for equal level mobs. I seem to remember keeping track of this until level 10 or so, and I'm not sure if the formula is static or altered as you gain levels.Quote:

Does this look right? I rarely ever look at what XP I'm getting per kill in solo play..
I'm big into crafting (even though I feel WoW's crafting system is pathetic - useless for the most part), so I take a lot longer to level. My team at 56 has over 8 days /played now, but all gathering professions are 300/300, and have all crafting professions except engineering up to at least 260 or so. Jewelcrafting is a beast.. forgot how much I hate farming ore to prospect.
I tend to look at levels in increments:
10 = start getting talents, professions to 150.
20 = professions to 225.
30 = usually a good offensive skill or two.
35 = professions to 300.
40 = mount.
50 = 41 point talent, professions to 375.
60 = epic land mount.
I am a big fan of tracking progress and seeing ways to improve leveling times. I take a screenshot whenever I level and when I work I track total progress if I am bored. Anyway if I total up my hours to 70 and cut it in half, my mid point is 56.5. Results may vary.
I've got a mod that does that for me - Ding Recorder, I think it's called. I'm being forced to go out for beer now so I can't look it up, but it's quite fun looking back at the screenies and seeing where I leveled. It includes a /played time too, which is quite snazzy.Quote:

And, as the father of a 14 y/o daughter, biologically she was able to get pregnant a couple of years earlier - which, quite honestly is VERY scary. Fortunately at almost 15 she has just started thinking that boys might be interesting. Back on topic, When TBC came out there was a huge jump in the XP curve both in terms of XP to level and XP rewarded from mobs and quests. XP from mobs and quests 20-60 has been increased. I wonder if there will be another large jump in the curve again with WoTLK? I wonder how long it will be before the 60-70 grind will be shortened?

My toons are 37 now and I am SICK of SM. The thought of even grinding the last three planned levels there is de-motivating. So, to think I'm less than half way by some of the measures in this thread is .... a bummer.
That said, this isn't my first rodeo and simply leaving SM will be a breath of fresh air. I still wish I had a good plan for levels 40 to 45 to get to the Hinterlands and beyond kill quest run.

Try running 2 teams at once though sm from 20-40. Talk about SICK, got so bored that i made really stupid mistakes and my rogue with pvp epics almost dieing. If you are power lvling try ZF. Did that from 40-45. In scholo now, first room takes about 14-15 minutes to clear and get 2 bars at lvl 52. So 6 bars an hour might not be the best but my dawn rep will be exulted when i am at 55.Quote:

If it's not fun, don't do it. Run a zone of quests and I think you'll be surprised at how quickly the xp rolls in. After ZF, I only ran Mara once for the Thrash Blade and have quested the last few levels. 8-10k XP in easy chunks is nice when you've got 6-8 quests to turn in at a time. Questing has been a nice break from instance running, and I was able to farm mats easier while questing too.Quote:

Feel free to add to the thread I linked. I see it as the beginning of a quasi-leveling guide for boxers. Others have alluded to it, but we really should start some sort of inventory and progression of kill quests (or at least boxer friendly quests).

I don't have experience with the horde side above level 20, so this is all coming from the Alliance-side quests. I've followed Jame's/Brian Kopp's guides for the last 15 levels, and it's been really easy to round up about 6-10 quests at a time, turn them all in, and gain 1/2 a level right there. There are a lot of kill quests in STV for the level 35-42 range, and some easy kill/collection quests in Tanaris & Feralas for 40-45 range. Collection quests aren't terribly fun, but as long as you're grinding out xp and gaining loot, it's not too bad. I've done quite a few of the collect 10x+ quests (x5 characters) now, but perhaps I'll go through the guides that are already out there and create a revised Alliance guide aimed toward multiboxers. My progression went something like the following:
- Quest till level 20. Elwynn Forest / Westfall / Loch Modan / Redridge - Wanted consecrate at lvl 20 for easy-tanking.
- Deadmines 20-25. Mix in Redridge / Duskwood / Wetlands quests when bored of instance.
- Stockades 25-30. Mix in Wetlands / Duskwood quests - especially the 4 'elite' Duskwood ones - Stalvan, Mor'Ladim, Morbent Fel, Embalmer.
- Gnomeregan 30-35. Some hate this instance, but I know it well and don't mind - plus there are some good drops and quest rewards here. Finish up Duskwood & mix in Arathi Highlands & Shimmering Flats in 1k Needles.
- Scarlet Monastery 35-40. Good drops, especially the +spell dmg gear. Mix in Desolace (especially for main SM quest reward) / Stranglethorn Vale / Arathi Highlands / Dustwallow Marsh quests.
- Uldaman 40-45. More decent drops. Mix in Badlands / Tanaris / Feralas / Stranglethorn Vale / Swamp of Sorrows / Hinterlands (get Mallet of Zul'Farrak).
- Zul'Farrak 45-50. Easy instance when over-leveled, just always kill the Shadowhunter trolls first. The temple battle I could do AFK - keep 4x magma totems up. I got lucky and landed the two rare swords to make the Sul'thraze the Lasher epic 2hd sword by my 6th run. Mix in Tanaris / Feralas / Hinterlands quests.
- Maraudon 50-52. The instance was cake, except for Princess Theradras since she's immune to lightning. Thrash Blade quest reward made it worth the fight. Finish up Hinterlands / Tanaris / Feralas, then do all of Searing Gorge (EASY quests in a small zone for a lot of quick XP!) and start Blasted Lands.
- Sunken Temple 52-55. I actually haven't made it over to do this instance yet, but I'm sure I'll be way over-leveled/geared for it. Mix in Blasted Lands / Felwood / Un'Goro Crater / Winterspring.
- BRD / Scholo / Strat / DM / etc. 55-60. I'm cruising through quests so easily that I don't feel a need to run an instance right now. Plenty of quests still available in Felwood / Un'Goro Crater / Western & Eastern Plaguelands / Burning Steppes / Winterspring / Silithus.
60+ Outlands.. I'll be running instances / dailies for rep before doing any of the quests, so my trip to exalted should be easier in the end.
Overall, I'm surprised how much the 2.3 patch has made leveling easier. Quests are now huge for XP, and I'm finding myself out-leveling the instances I'm planning on running by doing quests in the area first. I have a feeling it's possible to get to 60 without doing difficult collection quests or grinding instances multiple times. I have focused on quests given by human NPCs from the beginning for the sole purpose of Stormwind reputation to get horse mounts for my draenei, so it's not necessary to do quite as many quests as I've done.
I'm actually going to try to complete as many Old World quests as possible before moving to Outlands, so when I start with the reputation grind of instances before questing, I'll hopefully begin at level 62 or so.
The half way point to me felt like 36, I beleave thats when I started killing 70's (some)its been a while I know it was in that range. Once you hit 40 things start to pick up a lot, least it did for me. After the long grind in SM it was nice to get out to the hinterlands and Gagetzan, tons of quests to do. As I hit the 50s I enjoyed old instance content that you would be hard pressed to find a group for otherwise (the old 5 mans). I enjoyed doing those the most so far. I was able to explore and see things I never have before. Now that i'm 65 I kinda wish I hung around a bit more doing the older instances and doing them all. Oh well, guess I'll have my hands full doing all the new instances!

Tempted to go find the XP per kill by level formulas ( http://www.wowwiki.com/Formulas:Mob_XP ) and open Excel and graph out how many kills per level... but... not today...
