Ah good old blizzard they seem to be kicking themselves a lot lately.
This proves blizzard knows exactly what they're doing.
imo it's legendary failure.
Like an ad to sell drugs on an anti-drug site. hi-la-ri-ous.
Bwah? It's only a major mistake if people choose to ROFL about how it's such a major mindblowing mistake on messageboards. (Mmmmaliteration, that was) They caught the error and removed the ads, and even issued a statement about it. Mistakes are human; a timely, professional response is optional. If this is the best carrion you're going to find, you may end up starving to death.
I'm hungry now.
For those of us at work, and can't access the site. Can someone post what happened?
there was a mistake with the advertising and a gold selling advert managed to be displayed on the official wow forums. blizzard very quickly removed it and issued a post.
pretty minor stuff but quite funny.Quote:
Recently, there was a temporary error with our forum advertisements that caused a gold-selling ad to be displayed. At this time, we have resolved this error. Our stance, which is fully explained in the statement below, remains firmly against the buying or selling of gold, and we may take action against accounts that are involved in these activities.

It's a major mistake because no one reviewed the ad before allowing it on the site. I read a write up somewhere on why this never should have happened given the system they are using, but it did.Quote:

P.S. Lighten up and live a little. Even more professional would have been the ability to laugh at ones self. Don't be such a stuffy curmudgeon.
P.S.2: They deserve a little negative abuse right now anyways. Here I sit and stare at my computer waiting for the servers to come up, because they can't get this patch right.
Shut the servers down mid way through naxxramas.
They deserve to be laughed at :P.
It's significant because of the mobs of people who were angry at Blizzard's decision to advertise on a forum where a monthly fee is required to post. One of the more prominent arguments was that a third party company is responsible for serving the ads, and that would make them a liability. The argument was laughable if you look at it rationally - Blizzard is not going to take a laissez-faire approach to these ads, they're going to be very involved with making sure the correct content is shown.
However, if I was in management, one of the key points I would have made to the third party company would be - "Don't fucking EVER let gold ads show up here!" I'm sure everyone at Blizzard knows how bad it looks for that to happen, especially this soon after they introduced the forum ads.
George W. Bush, May 29, 2003: "We found the weapons of mass destruction."
You don't pay a fee to post on the forums. You pay the said fee to play the game. The forums are just a bonus. Blizzard has the right to post all the ads they want. They can also shut down the forums and make it so no one can post.Quote:

Actually, you DO pay a fee to post on the forums. You don't pay a fee to browse them.Quote:

Yeah, Thinking about it you're right. Point is you can't tell them to not put ads on there site. I remember seeing a post shower how to take the ads off.Quote:

Really I have no valid point to make. Just bored outta my mind at work and thought I'd say something. Moving on.
The ads aren't even that bad, so long as they maintain a decent enough repertoire of WoW/Blizz related goods. Sounds tracks, miniatures, card games, t-shirts, etc? Sure, sound great. Axe showergel, old spice body fragrance, Spike TVs VGA, latest Michael Bay film? Not so much.
When I worked for Sony back in the day that had a demo disc for some PS2 games. This disc was in test for 8 months before being released to the public.
In this disc they had a demo for a very popular game that was coming out. It was a playable demo and when you click on the configuration tab to see what buttons did what a Xbox 360 controller appeared!
It was public demo!
Happens to the best of them but it still makes me LAWL everytime.
little early in the year for an april fools joke...

I think it's hilarious that they hosted gold selling adverts... however, I didn't see them and rarely see any adverts, thanks to Firefox + AdBlock Plus :)
This post lacks useful information, was uncalled-for, and has no place on these forums.Quote:

It's not something for people to get uptight over. It's am embarrassing screw up for Blizzard, which provides some LOLs for the rest of us. I'm sure that someone got his ass reamed over it, and he might be the only person not laughing. :) Otherwise, life goes on.
