What's with all the hate recently

I've been boxing (first 3 toons , now 5) for about 4 months now.

Until the holidays, I never got a negative word about it. Occasionally, I got props from people who know what I was doing and wanted more info or expressed that they just couldn't afford to do it, stuff like that.

But over the last week or so, I've had several run-ins with players that just 'knew' that playing multiple accounts must be illegal. I usually just let them go their own way, tell them to go ahead and report if they wish, no harm. I recently made a macro to /r with a link to one of the many Blizz threads about hw MBoxing is allowed according to the ToS. Even that doesn't seem to get anywhere.

Anyone else getting extra grief recently?

I have, but I attribute it to faction/server changes. I rolled a NE druid team on Emerald Dream, to be able to chat with some friends and PvP. By level 11, someone had explained to me how pathetic it was to have four accounts (I didn't remember to correct him that until I cancel my RAFs, I actually have nine accounts). I decided I didn't dig the Alliance thing so rolled a team of tauren druids on Altar of Storms, where my co-workers play. Alas, by level six I was informed at length that multiboxers were gay. I had no idea! My girlfriend is going to be displeased.

Lightbringer Horde still has a perfect record though. If anything is said, it's usually "wow" or "lol!"

Being very new to multiboxing (just started 5boxing this week), I have run into a few people that ask how its done. Also, as i ran from UC to Taren Mill for the shaman water totem quest, i came across a lvl 80 rogue who was amazed at what i was doing so he escorted me all the way there! I havent ran into any negativity yet on the Kirin Tor RP server. Altho, i usually play in the early morning hours when theres not alot of people on.

I wonder if it's new players or weekend warriors that are playing more b/c of the holidays. Hard core players are well aware of boxing and may have opinions on it but usually have more important things to do than to be reporting etc.

My two most recent 'encounters' was doing the WPL quests with a RAF druid team, I summoned my treants and layed waste to a fairly wide area in short order. "Thanks for the screenshot, I'll be sure to report you for multi-clienting" was the smart-ass comment.

The second one was leveling up a 2mage/2lock team in Eversong etc. Some mid 60 level hunter kept following me around (I'm guessing had never seen a boxer before, so I just ignored him like I usually do). "Like to get reported for using a mod, do we?" were his exact words. The interesting part here is that I wasn't exactly competing with him for mob kills or resources, being that my toons were in their mid teens. So, this is pure 'report-nazi' chest thumping BS.

Well, no matter, I'll just keep leveling my toons until I hear otherwise from Blizzard. If so, well that's 75 bucks a month back in my pocket to go multi box another MMO :)

My 2 comments I add usually just before they ignore me.
If they don't ignore me and were particularly mean about it, sometimes ill add them to friends.
Then 1x per day for the next week (from all 5 chars of course) - "still here"

I just use a /target /lol macro on same faction peeps that harass me.

In my experience talking has never helped so I don't anymore and once I started /lol'n them x5, sometimes following them around for a while doing it, it seems to chase them away better. They send the hate tells because they only want to argue and harass you and they have no interest in being corrected.

Maybe this is different for Alliance but for Horde, I get far less (same faction) grief on PvE servers then PvP.

Recently? Hell, I get whispered at least once or twice a day saying that I'm reported or something to that affect. I just ignore it and move on. In fact, I usually ignore every whisper I get unless I determine it's genuine curiosity and they don't /lol at me first. Which is usually the case. First they /lol and then start to ask questions. If they want a response from me, I think a little politeness should be rendered first.

Personally, I definitely don't hassle them back (with 5x /w or /friend -ing them to chat them up later) because THAT could be construed as player griefing and/or spam (probably not, by why mess around?). Anyway, I think from now on, I'll just respond with my WoW forums link and follow with /ignore and be done with it. I guess a part of me wants to open people's eyes to what else is possible in the game. Then, another part of me is reminded that one of the reasons I play 5 toons is to never have to group with know-it-all a-holes like these :thumbsup:

For the most part, boxers I think are a mature group, given the dedication and financiall means it takes to be successful. We also seem to be really 'into' learning the mechanics of the game.

Ive been on Dawnbringer since the free transfers were available. Havent had a single hate comment yet. I know that another member here is there as well (Awbee and his group). Everyone seems to love me over there. Not sure if his experience has been the same. Recently the two of us were part of a AQ 40 pug and it was lots of fun. Hopefully everyones attitude remains the same on our server.

If someone whispers that they're going to report you, simply respond "Great! I'll wait while you do so, tell the GMs they can feel free to contact me - are you spelling my name right?" Be polite. No swearing, or anything that can get you reported - unless it's another faction, and it's a PvP realm...hey, PvP happens. :)

There will always be the know-it-alls who just *know* you're cheating. Educate them. They'll never admit they're wrong, but if you tell them to whisper you after they talk to a GM, that will shut them up, most of the time.

I'm lucky, I guess, I usually just get some Horde doofus who tries to interfere with my mobs, or chain group or duel requests to my team. I've pugged a few times, warned the other two I was MBing, they did'nt seem to care, and every once in a while I get asked for help, or someone will watch me AOE a group or something. Honestly, I have more problems with players stealing quest items or waiting for me to clear and then they run in and grab a named mob or an herb or something.

Draenor, btw - there's a few teams here, I see them every once in a while.

It's laughable how much abuse we as a community get, but how polite and non-belligerent we are. We don't act like fools on forums, and brag and talk smack, we don't abuse other players in-game (well...what happens on a BG stays on the BG, lol), we follow the rules, we don't try to hide what we're doing, and we can be great help if people work with us - but if you just read the forums, you'd think every server was a wasteland of corpses with a few MBers laughing maniacally one-shotting everything in sight. And there's virtually no abuse or complaints about AFKers anymore, or win-traders, or the idiocy in chat channels, and botters get complained about once in a while. We get more abuse than gold spammers!

It's not going to make me stop, or start acting badly like they do, but it does get to you once in a while.

It's due to the kiddies being home from highschool and playing more than they usually do. Also, any queues you're facing happen to be caused by these same people. Give it a week more max to be over with.

I get about two hate tells a day. Usually I will just explain to them what boxing is and point them to this site. Most of the time they will be cool afterwards and even say they are sorry. Although lately I have been less nice then usual. It just gets old. I'll tell you though, being nice has helped a lot. I get tells all the time from people i have talked to monitoring my lvling progress.

It's been a while since I was multiboxing, and most of the time I just run instances. That said, I leveled 5 shaman to 23 on Hyjal and a mixed group to 24 on Eldre'Thalas and the whole time I was only really 'hassled' twice. One was a kid who was more interested in finding out where to download the software that 'allowed me to hack my account' and play five characters at the same time, and the other was some druid who made a couple of comments in /yell and them tried to call me "lame" but misspelled the word (grats son, that failure was spectacular!). I didn't bother replying to the latter person, and I generally do not reply to people at all. If they have a problem with multiboxing, it is exactly that-- their problem. They are free to take it up with Blizzard via the forums, where the blues will politely tell them to fuck off and grab a tissue.

The multiboxing issue is settled, so I don't need to educate some knuckle-dragger who decided to play Dirk Dickhead: MMO Cop! If you're polite, you'll get a reply from me, but otherwise I will not expend an ounce of energy. I won't even put them on my ignore list, which I know must annoy some of them, since they consider that a badge of honor. I will start doing outdoor quests with my multibox team in Outland very soon, and I'm curious as to how much 'heat' I'll draw. I'm on a PvE server, so griefing options against me are very, very few. And I have no problems taking a break if people find ways to give me a hard time, as my leveling is completely on my own time and on no particular schedule.

How you act in the game reflects on you and you alone. I don't know why, but some people around here feel multiboxers always need to be on their best behavior so they don't "ruin" it for the rest of us. This is just some very odd reasoning. If Blizzard wants multiboxing to go away, they'll pull the plug regardless of people's behaviour. I highly doubt Blizzard would do anything about multiboxing because some boxer was rude to someone. No matter what our behavior is, people are going to hate what we do.

/ignore people to save yourself from the bullshit; don't ignore them because you represent the boxing community because you don't.

Level 1-75 about 50% was positive, 25% would be "huh", 25% would be negative.

Level 75-79 has been about 95% positive. I think once you get into the higher levels with players who have played the game for a long time you get more positive responses. I've only ever seen two multiboxers and I have been playing since release (with breaks). In other words, MBs are still very rare.

The only time I run into problems is when I'm trying to heal and DPS with my three moonkins in a PUG instance. It's much more difficult. If I'm just DPSing then everything goes smoothly and I believe people like the change of pace. Also, since loot is usually on FFA, the other two players get disproportionately more loot since I just leave it for them. I'd rather them like having a MB in the group and anything I can do to make the transition easier is good.

Yeah I noticed the majority of hate I got was 1-30, then 30-60 was still pretty bad. Now, I ran 60-70 while BC was still out, and in general I got little to no hate, most people were like "awesome!".

However, WotLK brought back all the kiddies and going from 70-80 I got a ton of hate. Now at 80 I get almost no hate again.

My wife and each five box on Eldre'Thalas, and have been for well over a year. I rarely get any hate tells, although there may be some that I'm not aware of, as I always have /yell from players turned off on all characters (I did that when I first started WOW, as I quickly discovered most yells were nonsense that I wasn't interested in seeing on my screen).

I do make some effort to help others, just because I like to do so, like tossing a heal or two if they need it, and tossing a buff or two if I have time. If I see a solo character struggling against an elite, I'll always heal them through it if they're alliance, or zap the mob if they're horde (they get full experience if I kill it when they're opposite faction). I don't KNOW that these things make anyone feel warmer towards a multiboxer, but they make ME feel good. :)

The only recent hate tell that I can remember lately, is my wife got a LOT of hate tells from some clown that kept asking her to party with him while she was busy taking down Durn while she was leveling another group through outlands. After it was over, she explained to him that she already had a full group, but he was really unhappy that she wouldn't party with him, and abused her with nasty hate tells for several days thereafter. She finally had to report him for harassment. If the fool would have just asked, she'd have helped him out, by lettting him tag it, then burn it down for him, as we've done for others, but he preferred to be nasty I guess. I have no idea why he though she OWED him an invite, but I guess some people you just can't help.

By and large, I get WAY more positive comments.

I'm trying to figure out why she let him harass her for days... why not just /ignore after the first or second rude comment, thats what I do. Or, report spam :)

Beats me. I would have never put up with it, but other than help her with monthly hotkeynet installs, and an occasional macro, I pretty much let her do her own thing.

On the other hand, it does get pretty wild if one of us runs into a really tough quest, and gets help from the other. Ten toons can pretty much make a joke of any elite, or even group of elites :D

I actually got badmouthed by the local gameslinger at Gamestop this weekend... Stopped in to browse games and was chatting about WoW... mentioned I had 5 accounts and he immediately went off on the "omg you need to drop that addiction" rant... claiming he got "clean" of his own habit...

Ends up he left WoW and now plays warhammer online... good to know that the crack fiend is telling me to drop my addiction and claiming to be clean... I hope Meth treats him better.

Many (probably was more than we think) people / kids / teenagers / etc received WotLK for Xmas or money for Xmas to pay for their accounts, or are new to the game due to a gift.

This means the world'ss shit-stained children (young and old) are once again vomiting their vile filth in the world of azeroth.

I just realized that I forgot to add that to my post-- aside from the one instance I mentioned (the druid who made a few comments and left) the rest of the comments on Eldre'Thalas were positive or at least non-judgmental. Most people thought it was cool, some thought it was weird, but didn't make rude or insulting comments. A lot of people just ignored me, and a few took the time to buff as many of the alts as they could pick out in the group. No idea what it will be like in the 60-70 bracket on horde side, but I may find out. I plan to do some of the outdoor quests to help them gear up as they go and will probably cross paths with people from time to time.

I had a know-it-all punk in Org recently who TOLD me it was impossible to multibox instances. I wish I had gotten screenshots.

Me: You're absolutely positive I can't do instances.
Him: Yep. It's impossible.
Me: Okay.
Him: Dual me with your best one.
Me: Why would I want to do that?

...then I R-U-N-N-O-F-T and went about my business. He really was boring me. He had made a comment earlier that I was going to move all my toons to my main account and sell them. Even when I corrected him, he didn't waver from that train of thought.

Other than the folks who just stare like you're a leper or something, that has been the only comment I've had in a month.

I must say, reading this thread, that we multiboxers take some serious abuse.
I play Horde on Wildhammer (EU) and yes some people are nice , but many more are just NOT!
It is probably due to the X-mas break, because even "single-boxing" I run into some absolutely fantastic stupidity.
But of course multiboxing just seems to draw the attention of the immature.
Honestly, if I may, I say E-peen. I think it is envy.

I have no idea how much toons go for, let alone accounts with multiple 70's. Yes, I know everybody and everything has a price, but someone would have to "come strong" if they wanted to buy my team. "Time to buy a new car" or "Lets take that trip overseas, baby" kinda strong! Even if I did sell them, what the hell would I play after I got rid of them? I'm not taking another team through Azeroth!

On another note, and I'm not trying to derail the thread, but have any of you ever ran into people, who when they find out you're a multiboxer, bug the crap outta you to run them thru something? We all get the occasional request, but I mean asking you everyday, to the point were you dread seeing their name pop up in a whisper? I've got this guy on my server that bothers me to tears for a run through on something. BRD, Ramparts, Mana Tombs....it doesn't matter. I'll turn him down, and all through the night he'll ask "what are you doing now?" As far as he knows I'm the busiest damn person on my server. Just ask him!! :whistling:

He's even made me log off a couple of times due to his questioning. He's not mean or demanding, but more of a friendly nuisance, which is not really enough to /ignore. Have you guys ran into this?

Since i left the 1-30 bracket the people whispering me and abusing me has really dropped off. now its more curious whispers.
I even had a realy Nice priest help me rez me team after agroing 3 of those elementals in searing gorge that are 100% nature resistant(Sucks to be Ele shamans against them)

All in all my expierence with abuse from other players has dropped off.
allthough nagrand on a whole seems fairly tolerant of it.

heh i started a couple days ago and i've bumped into a few people. the most overwhelming comment i've got was lol!wtf!.
then i'll do a little dance or cheer them and be on my way...must really freak some people out.

the influx of the kiddies is definetely more noticeable, i had some turd burglar in general start spouting off about it being the height of n00b and then they proceeded to rant about a whole bunch of other stuff to whoever would bite :thumbdown:
i've not directly spoken to anyone yet, although if someone is genuinely interested then i'll be more than happy to help em out!
