My macro/UI/keyboard setup (request - LONG)

After I started posting videos, I've been getting PM's about my setup, macros etc. etc., so I decided to redo my interface and post the info here, hoping someone might benefit from it. I'm not sure if this is actually the forum this belongs in - if not, feel free to move it :-)

First a few pictures of my keyboards:

I'm using the X7 as my primary keyboard with the red buttons (WASD).

Movement

Main: WASD movement + mouse. I have WASD on my DNP list, so technically I wouldn't have to unbind them on my slaves, but I have anyway, since I need to use the keys for other things. Arrow keys are unbound on my main.

Slaves: Arrow key movement (on G15 keyboard) and I have the "^" key on the X7 assigned to my spread macro (on char stands still, one strafes right, one strafes left, one backs up). This also leaves the forward keybinding open.

5-8 (on the X7) is assigned to slave forward movement (slave 1 on 5, slave 2 on 6 etc.) to avoid losing dps in certain fights when needing to move one slave while the others dps. This is based on screen setup and not on alphabetical sorting like healing (see below). So F9 is the leftmost character on my hardware setup etc. This takes some getting used to but works really well for those disc-of-pain type encounters, because you don't have to stop dps'ing to move just one char (such as the Nethekurse encounter).

Crowd control

Ctrl + 1: assigns mains target as focus for slave 1 (elemental shaman)
Ctrl + 2: assigns mains target as focus for slave 2 (balance druid)
Ctrl + 3: assigns mains target as focus for slave 3 (resto shaman)
Ctrl + 4: assigns mains target as focus for slave 4 (elemental shaman)
Ctrl + 5: casts CC spell (entangle for druid, hex for shammies - hex isn't available to me yet, so those are unused atm)

Ctrl + 1-4 are mapped on my main as assign raid target (star, skull, moon etc.).

Damage, tanking and healing

I have my main bar setup to switch between two modes: trash and boss. Pressing G1 will enable trash mode (linked to ALT+1), pressing G2 will enable boss mode (linked to ALT+2) - this is simple action bar switching, which I use because I have different DPS and tanking macros depending on boss/trash mode (see below under macros).

This means that I simply press G1 before a boss fight and have my macros for bosses or G2 for trash fights, where I have my macros for trash fights. This way I have as few keybindings as possible.

Normal key assignments:

Q: DPS for all chars (including resto shaman)
- CTRL:
- ALT:
- SHIFT: Chain lightning on shaman, wrath/starfire on druid

Trash and boss DPS macro for tank:
/console Sound_EnableSFX 0
/castrandom [combat] Hammer of Wrath, Hammer of the Righteous, Shield of Righteousness

/run UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

Trash DPS macro for elemental shaman

Boss DPS macro for elemental shaman
/castsequence reset=combat flame shock, lava burst, chain lightning, lightning bolt, lightning bolt, lightning bolt, lightning bolt, lava burst, chain lightning, lightning bolt, lightning bolt, lightning bolt, lightning bolt

Trash dps macro for balance druid
/castsequence wrath, starfire

Boss DPS macro for elemental shaman
/castsequence reset=40 wrath, faerie fire, starfire, wrath, starfire, wrats etc.

Resto shaman just casts lightning bolt

E: DPS (same as above) for all chars but resto shaman, who casts healing wave on tank
- CTRL: Reapply earth shield to tank
- ALT:
- SHIFT: Chain heal (all shamans cast chain heal)

R: Tanking macro
- CTRL: Pulling macro (/castsequence reset=combat/15 Seal of Wisdom, Avenger's Shield)
- ALT: Reply to tell (only main)
- SHIFT: Consecration

F: Follow
- CTRL: Moonkin form
- ALT:
- SHIFT: Totemic recall

G: Smartbuff trigger
- CTRL: Reset buff timers

C: Default totem stagger macro

I've got the trinkets on a seperate button since I only really need them for bosses anyway, but since the cooldown is so short I guess it doesn't really matter.

To be honest I havent used root much because I simply havent been in a situation where CC was required. I tried it during the third boss of MgT pre-wotlk which worked fine, but I am looking forward to hex :-)

could you plz tell me wich addon is for the grey background where all your interface stuff is on?

The background panel are called kgPanels and is (I think) the continued eePanels. Theyre pretty easy to use and setup - and thanks :-D

what kind of follow/focus/leader system do you use?

I currently use a Focus Main Setup, which could be my hinderance in certain situations, especially for CC.

Also are your macros setup to assist in the cast parameters?

I use a static assist-type system, which I find work really well since I need focus for CC.

On slave 1 :
/assist [target=Bitling, nodead, help, exists]; []
/castsequence Lightning bolt, Chain Lightning, Lightning Bolt

On slave 2:
/assist [target=Bitling, nodead, help, exists]; [target=Cottuy, nodead, help, exists]; []
/castsequence Lightning bolt, Chain Lightning, Lightning Bolt

etc. so there's an assist-chain sort of. I didn't come up with this, I snatched it from someone in here (don't remember who), but it works wonders except for the situation where the main gets charmed, then I need to hit <esc> to clear target and reacquire it when charm wears off.

Nice post, definitely some stuff I'll use...specially around the movement...

I take it your follow is pretty much the same way?

And is there a parameter in the [target] string that is able to tell if the person is seduced? maybe harm/help?

Yeah, the follow is pretty much the same. The "help" part returns false if the person is seduced/charmed etc, so yes :-)

Are your bars basically setup as static layout for the key binds, going down your mains bar, the 3rd button is your dps button? below that is the shift/alt/ctrl bind etc etc?

Also where do you find yourself putting Holy Shield? into which macro do you mostly use it it?

Also i was messing around yesterday and noticed i do more dps using single bound ability ie: wrath/LB and spamming that i can get my dps into the 1.4K easy, but when i do a castsequence i dont really get that much dps out of it even spamming it, is that typical, or is that backwards? It could be an issue with myself as well. Just clarifying.

I don't mind the questions at all - ask away :-)

The top-most bar is the non-modified bar, the next one is the ctrl + key bar, the one after that is the shift + key bar.

My DPS button (Q) is the first one, my DPS + heal button (E) is the second one. My tank button (holy shield + judge) is the third button (R). I have HotR and SoR in my dps rotation (mapped to Q and E) for my paladin.

You can optimize your castsequence macros using the target dummies in the major cities. At the moment I top out around 2000 dps with buffs and trinkets. My boss-rotation yields significantly more dps than my LB/CL spam :) If you get less out of your castsequence, you probably just need to tweak it :-)

As for chain heal, my resto shaman casts on my tank, elemental shaman 1 casts on resto shaman and elemental shaman 2 casts on elemental shaman 1 :-) I think CH automatically jumps to whoever has lower HPS, except for the first hit (which is targetted), so don't cast on the same char if you want to spread the healing out.

Do you have all your Shamans heal when keys 1-5 are pressed or just the resto shaman, if its all, then do you have specific keys for the resto shaman other then the ones stated?

All shaman heals with 1-5 (lesser healing wave), resto heals main when I press "E". I don't have any keys mapped for resto to anyone but my main - usually when other than the tank needs healing its either an emergency situation (needs quick lesser heals) or everyone needs a heal (chain).

The emergency heal (all shaman cast lesser healing wave) can be cast on everyone using 1-5 - that includes themselves.

My resto shaman uses NS in the oh-shit macro (mapped to "M") - I don't remember the exact command, but something in the line of:

/use 13
/use 14
/cast Tidal Wave
/cast Natures Swiftness
/castsequence Healing Wave, Riptide, Chain Heal

Then I just spam it :)

LOL, i was actually already stockpiling updated addons becuase i knew he was posting this, though still took me 3 to 5 hours to redo all my UIs and Macros across my PCs, but i can tell a huge difference in my response, i now have to adjust the setup on some of the macros to fit my hands.....If i knew about the X7-G100 before the xkeys, i would of got that, but now i have that coming and my xkeys still here.

I am planning on sticking with my G18 and adding a DX1 http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/input/77ba/ after christmas.
so right now I am using everything from about 5tgb left on the keyboard and I remaped my num pad and insert/home/pgup section to the G keys.
Will be adding the DX1 to sit left of my g15 with who knows what, but it will be more keys!

I'd wanted to do an interface update for a while - for some reason it always suprises me how long time it takes to get everything down just right :-P

What do you all think about this instead of the healing wave only...
for the resto shamans keys

/castsequence reset=combat Healing Wave,Lesser Healing Wave,

With mysetup my resto shaman can only get 12 to 15 healing spam

but this can get me 15 to 20, heals casted, my lesser heals between 4 and 6K while the healing wave heals between 5 and 9K on my tests, but then again my gears are not geared well at all.

My 3-man team right now is led by a Boomkin (druid, mage, lock), root, when available, works pretty well in my rotation - between it and the felguard, I can pin mobs down pretty well. The annoying thing is a lot of the places which are "inside", and I have to use an indoor rotation macro. I just did the Mausoleum/town quests in Dragonblight (chain gun FTW!), and it got painful with aboms and the undead running around.

To be honest I have yet to see a situation where this is needed (but keep in mind I've only just started heroics). Chaincasting healing wave is fairly expensive in terms of mana, I dare not think of what a healing wave+lesser combo would do to my mana pool, but try it out and see if it works for you :-)

Well, the least I can say, your post just came right on time! I am preparing to go from 2box to5 box and I was looking for some examples of how interfaces & macros should be setup.

I just had a couple of questions when reading your explanations. Forgive my ignorance when related to shammies in general and pally prot, I have not really played with them yet...

1. In your "Q" sequence, when pressing shift, do you just spam chain lightning on your shammies and keep the same macro with your druid ? I assume you use this when fighting multiple targets ?
2. I was surprised not to see any judgement spell for your pally. Once again I am more familiar with Retrib than Prot, but don't you judge, or is it just not mentionned here ?
3. on your "CTRL+G", is the "reset buff timers" an option for Smartbuff ? or simply a macro of some kind ?
4. On "M", could be be more explicit on your emergency heal macro (compared to all your heal setups attached to other buttons), also, forgive my noobness but how do you setup mouseover cleanse ?

My last request is a little bit bolder, so I am just asking it in case that would be no problem to you. To simplify my first steps as a 5boxer, I intend to replicate as closely as possible what you explain in your post, including the interface. I was then wondering if you would agree to provide your WTF config files (main & slaves) for Pitbull and macaroon, which are by far the most difficult setups I encounter when trying to follow your example.

Obviously, I would completely understand any "copyright" issues :) , and I am sure I would end up succeeding. I am just too excited to start that I was getting through a lot of pain with these two addons (expecially macaroon, which is to me way not as intuitive as bongos, though superior on macros).

2. That's a mistake in the writeup. I have Judgement of Wisdom in the /castrandom macro on my Q button I think.
3. Its an option for smartbuff (you set it in the keybinding section of the wow client)
4. I can't recall the macro exactly but it's something in the line of:
