WOTLK pet peeves

So its been now a few days since WOTLK launched. Lots of 80s already, and some guilds have already started clearing raids. here are my pet peeves with WOTLK so far, none of them super major but nonetheless little pains. I am enjoying my time, trying to limit myself to 5-6 hours a day so I don't go nuts. Only level 72 so far, but having a blast.

#1: SO MANY COLLECTION QUESTS! Every other quest seems to be a "go fetch me X bug brains, please". And tons of collection quests start chains, so if you skip them you may end up skipping tons of quests. Its not been fun killing five times as many camped mobs as other people.

#2: DALARAN LAG. Ok, so Shattrah was not great, I would get 15 fps or so (on a SSD) but it still was pretty playable. Dalaran is horrendous for me much of the time, 6-8 fps. Also happens in a few horde cities like Agmar's Hammer, where there is a lot of buildings and NPCs. Time to upgrade my PC, soon.

#3: NO REP IN INSTANCES! Oh man, this was a blow. I was really hoping just to grind instances and get to honored/revered with a bunch of factions on the way to 80. Sadly, you get no rep doing instances. I believe at 80 you can wear "tabards" and gain rep, but I think that is only for the 80 instances and heroics.

#4: PHASING. The idea is pretty awesome and I love it when playing solo, but man, it kind of sucks when you get put into seperate phases as a multiboxer. You tab around a lot trying to get everyone sync'd up.

#5: TAILORING BONUS. Ok, so tailors can sometimes get extra cloth from mobs. AWESOME!!!! Except only the tailor can loot it. I usually just loot everything on my tank and tab around for quest items. I thought the loot system was completely bugged up every time my mage would have extra frostcloth to loot. I must have missed out on stacks and stacks of frostcloth too :( I love this feature of course, more cloth = awesome. I just need to work out a system where my mage is always looting mobs too.

I don't have a single thing to complain bout with WotLK. I'm only level 71 but I'm taking my time and enjoying the trip for once. I love the scenery, always fun exploring new zones. The quests - theres a few new quest mechanics/quest types. Plant a banner and defend it = win :) hell I even did a few collection quests. I especially love the fact that PvP occurs everywhere. Its also nice getting new spells and stuff but thats to be expected. Anyway just my 2c worth /shrug

This is the first I've heard of this. Does this work now in pre-wotlk areas? Does the tailor need a certain level of tailoring skill for this to work?

Out of my three chars in my lvl62 MB group, the only profession I bothered with so far was enchanting on my leader so that he can DE. Perhaps I should give him tailoring.

Would it be worth the money investment to grind up to 325 tailoring? Understand that my tailor would be a plate wearing pally and the only reason I would be leveling tailoring would be for that extra cloth boost.

How the hell have you only seen one collection quest? I must of done literally 20+ of them already. I've just decided to suck it up and do all the collection quests since I don't really know where the hell to go and this is the first team I'm leveling. I'd probably waste more time trying to figure out something else to do then to just go ahead and quest.

I have tailoring on a pally, and infact I enjoyed it allot, helped when first dinging (mind you mine is holy) was able to craft a pve belt till I got better from kara. Sometimes as a pally its ok to wear less for better stats if your holy, though not the same case if your a tank.

Yeah, I've been doing all the collection quests too. Mainly just because I want to experience the entire expansion. But once I do them once, that's it (unless it leads to a really nice item down the quest chain). :)

i went from 68-71 easily in borean/fjord, but i'm out of quests now. i tried soloing nexus/utgarde on my 5x boomkin but they've made it so you really need a tank to be successful it seems. i've started doing collection quests, and those plus the mobs you kill while doing them seem to give a good chunk of xp, though not quite as fast as regular grinding quests. hopefully more quest areas open up when i hit 72, and i'm also starting to build a nice feral set for my main so i can grind dungeons if i get stuck again. i'd rather not have to do collections :P

1) I don't think there are that many collection quests - in fact there seems to be less than in BC, and the ones I've encountered so far have been skippable. I've done 0 collection quests and I'm 72 and still have a bunch of undone quests in both howling fjord and borean tundra.

3) Yeah, this is a shame. In fact I'd like to add to your list-o-whining that xp-grinding in instances really suck for me so far because a lot of mobs either don't give xp or are simply spaced too far apart to be a viable alternative. And I've done three instances so far, I really hope this changes.

4) I haven't had that problem when grouped

5) /shrug doesn't really bother me tbh, it's just cloth which is one of the most dropped items anyway. If someone gave me an ability to increase netherweave drop rate by 25% in BC I wouldn't care too much either.

I would say no....The cloth economy is eventually get down to whatever the price of bandages vendor for. If you are running more than one toon you will get overwhelmed with cloth with or without this bonus. It is cool but if you don't have it already I wouldn't go and spend time/gold trying to get it.

I have run into shitloads of collection quests and here is how I combat it. I round robin each toon on them(meaning only one character will get to complete that quest.) That way at least one character gets xp while we are in the area completing other quests. However this doesnt solve the problem of chain quests that have collections in them.

Also at this point I would like to point out xp in Wrath is VERY buggy. I havent figured out what is going on yet, but sometimes when I'm running solo (I play at work) I can get up to 2500 xp(blue) solo for a non-elite to my group getting as low as 300 xp (nonblue.) I think that's fucked up. 300xp?! You gotta be kidding me. No wonder single players are way ahead of me in leveling game.

This seems to be a common question. Phasing is new technology they introduced with WotLK. One of the most easily accessed Phased regions of the world is the Death Knight starting area. Every time you complete a major question chain, part of the area changes. But here's the deal, every other death knight in the zone who has not done those quests still sees the area as it would be portrayed in the previous phase. Note that, if I recall this correctly, players can only see and interact with other players who are on the same phase as them.

Okay, some people are saying there aren't that many collection quests and others are saying there are tons. Which is it? I've not hit Northrend yet since the group I've decided to level in WotLK is not quite 68 and I'd like to be 70 to start the area since that's what it was engineered for.

I only did howling fjord so far to 70.66 but I haven't seen that many collection quests at all. Certainly less than BC. And a couple of the ones I did find dropped items for EVERY character at the same time.

There are tons of collection quests. Most involve important quest chains too, like for example the one in Dragonblight that leads to Alexstrazsa and "the movie" involves at least 10 collection quests. My team is 73, I've done 70 quests in Howling Fjord, 70 in Dragonblight, and 20 in Borean (also cleared UTK, Nexus, and both Azjol instances) and I'd guess at least 30-40% of the quests I've done are collection quests.

Most are really not too bad, usually 5-6 items from mobs that drop 100% (but one at a time). There are a few however that are maddening, like the ancestor-bones one in Howling Fjord -- you have to collect 5 bones from mobs that are camped constantly and spawn rarely, and the drop rate is close to 30%.

When I level my DK team I am skipping ALL collection quests, they are just too frustrating. The only ones to do are in dragonblight, get every quest done in that zone since there is a fairly significant story line that opens up when you do.

Re: the XP issue, I think I've noticed that as well, although I've only multiboxed. Its very frustrating that my team is only level 73, whereas I see people who play as much as me already 76 or 77. Oh well, I'll be able to solo heroics hopefully at least :)

I have this problem a little bit, but all I do is push forward on the alts to move them into the fog and they appear within 2 seconds next to my leader. I have arrow keys set for followers to move separately.

In response to what you said about no rep from instances...

I know that there is a system where you wear a reputations tabard and then when youre in ANY instance it gives you rep... but its not for all factions. Let me try to find a link about it, i think it was called champion or something like that.

Guess its only for level 80 dungeons though.

"Championing" is a system for earning Faction reputation for certain Northrend-based Factions.
The system makes use of Tabards available from certain Factions at Friendly reputation. By wearing a Faction's Tabard, one gains the Champion buff for that specific Faction and can then gain reputation for kills in any level 80 Dungeon, regardless of the Dungeon's native reputation.
For example, if a player wears the Tabard of the Kirin Tor in Utgarde Pinnacle (or any other level 80 Dungeon), each kill will grant Kirin Tor rep.

Currently only four major Neutral Factions in Northrend can be Championed:
- Kirin Tor: Wearing the Tabard of the Kirin Tor grants to Champion of the Kirin Tor buff.
- Knights of the Ebon Blade: Wearing the Tabard of the Ebon Blade grants to Ebon Champion buff.
- The Argent Crusade: Wearing the Tabard of the Argent Crusade grants to Argent Champion buff.
- The Wyrmrest Accord: Wearing the Tabard of the Wyrmrest Accord grants to Wyrmrest Champion buff.

FYI, this really sucks with 4x tailors :P

There are a TON of collection quest. MORE SO than BC. And whats really a pain in the ass is trying to get the items while 30 other people are doing the same quest. If you skip them it will cause you to miss huge chain quest. So far I have skipped some and completed others. If it takes too long for the item to drop I only do it on 1 guy and drop it.

There aren't more collections that I've found, just that we are putting a lot more pressure on ourselves to do the 70ish quests than we actually NEED to.

For example (on alliance side), in Hellfire you had to collect these insignias or whatever, like 12 of them, off those Orc mobs in the SE to get open a quest to kill the Drilmaster for some nice-at-the-time blues. This quest took a LONG time and was annoying as hell. The droprate was seriously like 10%. The reason I think most boxers wouldn't have worried about that in the past year is because we all know that if you just forget about it and skip it totally, you end up with way better gear at 70 anyway. But since we're all new to WOTLK, we feel like, oh shit, 80 stamina on some blue item, must do quest! Not so. At 80 all the items you get will be that way. No shame to skip it if you hate collections.

As it stands, we all will have such a huge headstart on this content by playing it from release that I don't know if sitting there and grinding out collections is a bad idea regardless.

Agree, that is a pain. However, so far (almost 74) I've been able to find place to position the rest of the team so that they get credit for the kills. And, the vehicle missions are actually kind of fun so I don't mind doing them a few times if I have to.
