Leaderless set-up / focus system / targettarget, bug but with a fix!

Okay, most of you experienced multiboxers will know that when your 'main' is blinded or deathcoiled, etc. Your followers will not be able to see your main's target anymore. And will go dead for the duration of the blind/deathcoil/etc.

This is because to everyone but the client, the blinded/deathcoiled or otherwise impaired characters will not show their target anymore to others.

There is a way around this. I'll show you some crude macro's to counter this. (the important parts on this problem bolded)

Here's an example for a very crude assist system. (Seriously, don't use assist tho. :P )

/target toon1
/assist
/targetlastenemy
/cast Lightning Bolt
/cleartarget

Or in case of the focus system

/target focustarget
/targetlastenemy
/cast Lightning Bolt
/cleartarget

Or, in case of a leaderless set up.

... Obviously these are rather crude macro's just to show the trick. I'm not sure if this was well known. I just figured it out a few days ago, and it works like a charm. (I use the leaderless set up myself.)

This way your alts (if you started to dps before you got blinded) will remember that last target even if your main looses the target due to blind/etc. So, it's a good thing, for example in arena, to already click your dps macro on the target you want to dps first. So they'll also remember that target as /targetlastenemy.

It's so win! I finally feel my macro system is PERFECT! I'm happeh moomoo. :>

PS: Yeah I use cleartarget, it looks nice and clean. And works like a charm anyhow. :>

I had to come up with this because there was a rogue/hunter/lock/x/x team that found out and blinded my main, I switch char, then that one got a deathcoil, I switch again and hunter throws on a scatter. Was well annoying, was unable to do anything for like 15 seconds. They made easy pickings of me. This will not be the case when I'll meet them again. >:)

Hmm I guess I've never been blinded or deathcoiled before. When my main dies and loses his target, I can still re-click on the former target I had and keep using my dps button and my clones will keep throwing lightning bolts..

Doesn't it work the same way with deathcoil/blind? can't you just re-click on the target you had before, and then your toons will pick up the focustarget again? I was fairly sure thats how it worked anyway...

Hah makes sense why my toons at times stopped dpsing :P

My plan is to use action pages as this frees up Shift,ctrl etc!

What happens if you switch target? wont they dps the last target ?(

You can retarget on yoru main all you want, but your alts wont see your main targeting, they will see your main having no target.

Try it out with a friendly rogue in nagrand arena. :P

If your alts dont yet have the target, they will not be able to get your mains until the moment blind, etc, ends. I like my alt targets cleared in my UI. Another way of countering this would be to not /cleartarget, but use for example

/target [exists] focustarget
/cast lightning bolt

True. But still, I found having my alts not cleartarget to often screw things up. And this seems to work perfectly for me, using the /targetlastenemy trick.


edit: Those macro's are just some off the top of my head to show you the trick to counter the blind problem, Dominian. /assist toon1 works just as good. :P

I don't use assist myself tho.

This is for example the leaderless macro for alting on my character Canika. (I use trinity 2.0 so screw the 255 limit. xD)

I have that focus on as I sometimes want to trick the other teams healers, by focusing one char but targeting another, then at the start of the fight, they get ready to heal my target, but its my focus that gets nuked instead. (Especially handy vs 3x healer teams).

Keyclone keeps track of the modifiers for you right?

How do you fire on your focused target by using that macro? From what i see it always fires at the focused target untill its dead right?

With /cleartarget your alts never have a target showing if you use try to assist them right?

I only use focus when I want to fire on the focused target. But yes, if I focus a player, it will ignore all the targeting stuff. Like I said, it's purely to offset healers in arena or for making the first kill in 5v5. And for the istant swapping to the second target when the first dies.

And yes, the modifiers are for the leaderless set up. I use keymapping in keyclone to accomplish that.

You guys know that /assist can take a target right?

The less targetting changes in your setup, the better, because of server side and network lag.

The problem is that during a blind, you can't assist, or targettarget, or in any way get the target of your main. Unless your alts already have the target from before the blind/etc on your main. :P

And ehm, I didn't notice serverside lag or anything going wrong so far in the week I've been using above targeting system. And I don't like assist as it starts melee.

You can turn it off in your WoW settings.

Or you can just swap to one of the other wow's and make that your main until your normal main regains control :)
Keeping things simple and short = win, less can go wrong.

That said, the easy way to do this would be that if you're worried a character may try to stun/incapacitate/sheep/blind/etc your main, target an enemy then bind a key on all of them to assist. That way you don't have to put it in macro's, can use it whenever and can make them all target the same thing without having to worry that to make them target they will try cast/attack/do something.

You're still missing the point. :P

When you are incapactitated in certain ways (blind, deathcoil, scattershot) your main will not set his/her target anymore to anyone else but the main's own client. Others won't see the characters target, and not even assist will work. :P

Hence the /targetlastenemy.

But nevermind, I realised that it's only a problem if you use /targetlasttarget or /cleartarget at the end of your macro's. If you don't, your alts should keep the target.

It's a great improvement, it was quite fun to see all his alts stop DPSing from blind, to end up with me getting shot at the end of the evening with the new macro ;)

Did this with my LB macros last night, made me think back to an arena game i did where my main was blinded and i couldnt shoot with the others (like i could with the focus setup previously) i just assumed keyclone had bugged out or something. All working nicely now :D ta!
