New User Problem

Hello all,

I bought Keyclone, followed the guide but my toons still won't both cast at the same time. They do follow each other around, but the problem I'm having is that when I target with the main, and then press the "2" key to cast a spell...only my main casts it and then alt does not. Everything else seems to be working so far. Could someone shed some light on this? I hope this hasn't already been answered, I looked through some of the sticky's and am frustrated!

Also, I read a guide which states that in the Program Files/World of Warcraft/WTF folder I need to make 2 new files called "1boxing.wtf" and "2boxing.wtf" do I need to do that? Besides doing that I have followed the guide from the Keyclone website. Thanks!

Do they jump at the same time? (i.e. press spacebar and see if they both jump)

Did you set up an [url=http://dual-boxing.com/wiki/index.php/Macros#Assist_Macros]assist macro[/url]? If your characters jump, but do not cast -- and you have not set up an assist button -- you might want to check out [url='http://vboxing.net/v/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=19']this video guide[/url].

I'm at work but will check tonight to see if they jump and go from there. Thanks for the post, seems like there are alot of posts on this board which is nice!

I tested out my setup and the alt doesn't jump. The only thing it does correctly is follow the main. Right now frustration sets in as I'm not sure where that leaves me. I'm not a great mind when it comes to this!

Ok, my toon now jumps along with the main. I followed the Quick Start Guide posted on this site. I still haven't figured out how to get my alt to assist the main and attack his target.

On the alt (sham) I assigned his lightning bolt spell to the "2" on the keyboard. Then, on my main (Warrior) I put his attack in the "2" as well. So I thought that with keyclone if I hit the "2" key the main would attack and then the alt would also attack.

I'm making some progress as I have some other basic macros working. I'm also going to look back at the prior post by Vyndree because she said that might help if the alt jumps but doesn't attack. Sorry for being such a noob, does anyone else have an idea on what I'm doing wrong here?

Do you have an assist macro setup?

Your slave toon needs to have assist macros for all of their attacks and spells buddy...

This is what I use on my slave for my 2x Shaman team:

#showtooltip Lightning Bolt
/assist Lexí
/cast Lightning Bolt

Only you would be replacing 'Lexí' with your warrior's name, and Lightning Bolt with whatever spell you so desire your slave to cast. Remember, you have to do this with EVERY spell you want your slave to target your main's target with (all Shock spells, Chain Lightning, etc).

This is the macro I had setup for assist:

/target focus
/follow
/assist
/stopcasting

Then I setup this macro to cast Lightning Bolt when my Warrior attacks:

/cast [target=focus, nodead, harm] Lightning Bolt

I believe that should work, I took it all from this page:

Have you set your warrior as the focus? That's another macro.

And that lightning bolt macro looks off, though I'm a total noob on this stuff, doesn't that try to bolt your warrior (focus) rather than his target (focustarget)?

Yeah, I did set the Warrior to focus target using the Key Bindings option in-game. Maybe that macro I had is off...I think I used the exact verbage from the guide though. If I don't hear any other tips today I will try that macro that Chris posted tonight.

I think you have it correct as it is listed in the wiki/thread on getting started, but it may be slightly unclear, tinker with it some. I also could be totally wrong in the way I'm reading it, I'm very green myself.

Ok, I used the macro elsegundo has and I have it working-somewhat. When I run up to the mob I hit "2" on my keyboard and the Warr main attacks. Then, I have to hit "2" again for the alt to cast Lightning Bolt. Then if I want to do that again I have to hit "2" twice more.

Shouldn't it work by just hitting the "2" once? If I'm hitting it twice I'm starting/stopping attack on my warrior. I feel like I'm getting closer, can anybody identify what I need to fix?

one quick change to your macro, if i may:
/cast [target=focustarget, nodead, harm][]Lightning Bolt


sorry, that slipped my mind. its kinda a failsafe if your warrior dies.
basically, the macro goes like this:

if the focus target is not dead and harmful, cast lightning bolt, if not, the pass to next parameter. next parameter is empty, so it just returns as true. so if true is true, then cast lightning bolt.


for your question, is your #2 button on a round robbin? they should attack in sync unless you have more commands to your macro.

OK, so if you are going to option cast lightning bolt anyway, why do we bother with the nodead, harm conditions at all?

It seems the macro says, "If the target is not dead and harmful, cast LB, and if the target is dead or friendly, try to cast it anyway."

I've been digging through the macros for a while now and I can't seem to get my head around that empty conditional.

EDIT: I think a light bulb just flashed, the empty conditional gets you away from your [target=focus target] if your leader is dead right? So you can just cast from the alt without switching macros?

Also, I think maybe the OP has the #2 macro on autoattack on the war? So when he wants to cast LB his auto is shutting off. Maybe set heroic strike or something to #2 and see?

Ok, as for my #2 button. I moved the attack button over there. I dunno if that answers the question, but I shouldn't have to hit it twice! Should I just be right clicking on the mob and then the Lightning Bolt will cast?

no you shouldnt have to hit it twice. check if you set it up as a "round robin" on keyclone.

I checked and the "rr" button was not pushed in keyclone.

I'm not sure what the issue is! But I have to hit that "2" button twice to have my dps cast the first spell, thus keeps turning my attack from on to off with the main. Then, after that in order for the alt to keep casting I have to hit "2" again every time. So basically to get the first cast by the alt it takes two clicks of the "2" button, then after that it casts every time I hit the "2"...that isn't normal is it? Shouldn't the alt just keep casting?

If nobody else has any input I'll probably have to call keyclone because I can't figure it out...but thank you to everyone who has given me tips up to this point, they have helped. I'm almost there!!

I don't know why you have to hit the key twice... thats something of macro orientation i'm sure. But if you want to prevent your warrior from stopping attacking by hitting 2 multiple times.

Make sure Auto-Attack is NOT in the second slot on your action bar. Put rend or hamstring or heroic strike there. That way when you press 2 you cast lightning bolt on your shaman and rend on your warrior. Also if during the fight you want to cast lightning bolt again you press 2 again and your warrior doesn't stop auto-attacking.

I am happy to say the clicking the "2" button twice is now fixed! After the last poster said something about macro configuration I was thinking about this macro I found and was using:

/target focus
/follow
/assist
/stopcasting

I was hitting this as my "big button". So I took it out and simply used a /follow...then hit the "2" and it worked with one click, woot! I don't completely understand why, but there must have been something in this macro that was conflicting with the /assist macro I setup.

I have one more question...I know people are shocked. How do I set-up my Lightning Bolt macro on the alt so he keeps nuking till the mob is dead? Do I just remove /stopcasting if it's on there...or do I type in /cast Lightning Bolt multiple times? Thanks for your help!

You keep pressing the button that makes him cast, 1 button press, 1 action. Having multiple spellcasts on one toon on one keystroke takes you down the path towards automation and banning. You can stack actions like triggering trinkets or instant casts that don't trigger a cooldown (like a mage's PoM), but you can't push once and "cast this spell every time the cooldown is up until mob croaks". That's automation, and bad mojo.

I was thinking your issue with having to press 2 was a slight delay that can happen when slaves are picking up the main's target, they don't cast if they don't have a target, and there can be a slight delay in them acquiring it. A way to test it with that [] setup mentioned above is to target one mob and have hte main target a different named mob and hit your macro, then see which mob your slave casts on if any.

Again, still very much a noob myself, could be wrong, but the forum has been a big help to me, so I try to help back, even at risk of talking out my fifth point of contact.

Since you've already set your focus to the warrior, the macro with the target=focustarget will accomplish the same as the /target focus and /assist portions of your big button, the /stopcasting may or not play a role.

Thanks for post Jheusse, I'm hoping someday I'll get smarter about this and will be able to help others on the board as well. That's good to know about that automation point you made. I think I finally have the basics set-up...the rest I'm gonna hope I can nail down through trial and error.

I'm still wondering about something though. I have been running this on my laptop w/ 2 windows. I'm wondering how I take what I'm doing now and then make it work on 2 seperate computers? Is there a guide out there for that? I'm just trying to figure out how you make all that link together. I just don't want to burn out my laptop and I'm getting concerned about that.

you dont need /assist if you're using target=focustarget.


/target focus <-------- this makes your current target your focus. so only use this if you have targetted your warrior and want him to be the focus. if you only have two guys, i suggest you do this once every time you log on, much like how you make looting free for all, or set your main as the group leader. once you make tank your focus, you dont have to do anything else really. simply make all your other spells a spell to cast on the focus target.
this should be how your macro looks like, and nothing else:

if you /assist, you shaman will simply assist whoever he's targeting. so if your shaman is targeting your warrior, pressing /assist will make your shaman target what your warrior is targeting. this will require that your shaman always re-target your warrior each time he needs to target another mob. a better way to do this would be to /assist WarriroName. in doing so, you will no longer require the "target=focustarget" macro stated above. a simple, /cast Lightning Bolt would suffice.

two things. one, you dont really "burn out" your laptop unless you're running the game on some really old hardware or on some cheap laptop. i would suggest getting a laptop cooler. these are basically platforms for your laptop to sit on with fans built in to keep it cool. thats really all you need.
two, in order for you to use two computers, if you're running keyclone, you'll have to have one copy of keyclone for each computer. link the two keyclones, and you're set. this requires another registration of keyclone, so you might want to think about the costs, of thats important to you.

That's a bummer that you have to pay for another registration of the program, I would have thought you could use the same one!
