Hi all,
I started dual boxing yesterday - I got a trial account with Refer a Friend and was playing Warrior/Priest
Got to level 8 and liked it so I upgraded the account to full and bought a 1 month subscription this morning. 10mins ago I get kicked out and cant log in saying that I am banned
I thought we were allowed to multibox no??

There is always more to the story. Was it the same name on both accounts?

Something tells me we havent heard the whole story. there must be a reason behind it.
As mentioned above im betting you created the new account in a different name.

Call Blizzard and they will rectify the problem. Also, you might want to take your account name out of your post (just replace it with *********) so someone doesn't try to guess at your password.
Give em a phone...let us know what the issue is.....
I have accounts created in all sorts of different names (well just variations of my own firstname with the same last name ... dont ask ;-) , and have never experienced a problem. I did receive a letter like the above poster when I tried to register 10 accounts with the same credit card all at once. I had to call them to get the situation straightened out, because they thought someone was fraudlently attempting to use a CC in order to register accounts.Quote:

Ah, i thought they didnt like accounts in different names. Or is that just for transferring to another server/account?
Set it to redial and keep trying, im sure its no biggie and something that they can sort out quite easily for you.
If you try to transfer to another account, the names have to match - or else you get caught up in a web of calling and explaining the situation (usually results in a ban because it looks like you purchased the account). Sometimes, if the addresses have always been the same (on all of your accounts), you can get them to transfer the character.Quote:

Problem is stated so clearly in the e-mail and noone here seems to even see it.
The payment of your WoW bounced (you didn't have enough funds available on the CC or so) and thats why u now have a locked account, till u pay up its locked.

Are your characters draenei or Bloodelf?
If your characters are one of these races you wont be able to play them until you upgrade to TBC. for example... You have started a trial and are playing TBC races. since you upgraded your account it is no longer trial so those BC races are not available until you upgrade.
Best way to figure this out is by going to account management and selecting TBC 10 day trial, that way they will be available again.
I also read this as being a likely problem with your billing, but not due to funds. It could be an accidental wrong address or something else causing the card to not have passed verification. However, it's not clear in the mail. It very well could be a server problem on their end.Quote:

Just buy WoW from the store. You'll save money if you get both xpac and original at once. They didn't charge you for the account. They are just paranoid about using your credit card, regardless of you having enough funds in your account. Its quite common actually.
When I tried to electronic update to a RAF account they put a 3 day hold on the account being updated. In this hold period you can't trade, email, create dranai, etc )
Then my bank called me to ask if I was really charging stuff on the internet.
Your are better off going to the store and buying the battle chest.
if you buy the battle chest at the store you get an immediate upgrade ( no 3 day hold while your credit card is processed ) and it costs the same.
make sure you are not logged onto wow while doing the upgrades on the website.

Sadly a lot of fraudulent transactions involves WoW - foreign crime syndicates creating WoW accounts using stolen credit cards and reselling these accounts to Chinese farming companies, etc. So thats why many banks and credit cards are very quick to stop any transactions, especially if you haven't done any before - most credit card companies nowadays "track" customer behaviour, so for example if every day you buy a starbucks coffee in Portland, but suddenly one day you buy $200 worth of books at a New York City bookstore it'll get flagged.
So yeah, your bank/cc decided something must be suspicious and didn't let the charge go through, could be something as simple as the address/phone/zip not matching or just routine bank flagging. The reason that is there on the web site as you create your account is if your account becomes compromized and to verify that you are the account holder. Using different names is risky but that alone does not make your account subject to any kind of warning. There has to be something else that happens in order for your account to be banned. And 9 times out of 10, those that post here about their account being banned, don't give the full story.
What does matter are things that Blizzard doesn't like you doing, such as swearing or spamming in chat channels, using automation software that allows your character to do things while you're not at your keyboard, logging in at the same time from different IP addresses that are clearly a distance away. Those types of things will get your account banned or at least some kind of warning. That is why you NEVER EVER give your password to anyone. No friends, no family, NO ONE PERIOD. If you do and they log in from another place while you're playing, you can be banned or get a warning. That is usually why accounts are banned because they gave their password to someone else and that someone else logged in while you were logged in so you got kicked off and then you tried to log in again and Blizzard tracks the IP addresses used during login along with the times of those logins.

If your avatar is you, then you are hot, but you are not so wise about the ways of blizzard.
If you have several accounts under the same credit card or all using game cards changing play times continuously then you look exactly like the asian gaming farms and the ban wave is coming. The ban hammer sucks even more than getting grappled with a hook ;)
Yes, this is yet another way you can be banned if you change play times consistently, have your IP address from an asian country, etc. There are a lot of ways to be banned or get a warning for. But having different names on your different accounts is not one of them. As stated, that in itself is not a reason for a ban or a warning. There are always other factors that cause your account to be banned or get a warning for. You are confirming what was stated originally thank you. ;)Quote:

Maybe I'm misinformed but I was under the belief that all accounts must be in the owners name. Many TOS quotes and examples of people being banned even using a wife's acct.

basically says they can ban you for anything they want to ban you for. They are usually very careful about banning an account because it terminates their income. If they aren't getting any income from an account, it will probably be banned as it appears what happened in this message thread.
This is the section in the Terms of Service that relates to the account information provided by the subscriber when the account is established:
"You may establish one (1) user account (the "Account") on the Service for each Authentication Key you receive from Blizzard. To establish an Account, you will be required to provide Blizzard with certain personal information and the Authentication Key provided to you by Blizzard. Your failure to supply accurate information to Blizzard when requested, or to update that information as it changes, shall constitute a material breach of this Agreement."
So you're really supposed to be provide accurate information. But Blizzard will not ban an account that is in good standing (Blizzard getting income from) that is not breaking any rules if you're just boxing with accounts that have different names on them. I've been boxxing for about 2 years with accounts I created that have different names and never received any warning. Prior to creating the 32 new shaman I'm working on now, I had one of each class (9 accounts) that I boxxed with and many times I was threatened with reports, etc but never once received anything from a GM.
Prepared we have all been following your progress and I for one hope your accounts are not in multiple different names. If they are it is only a matter of time before all of them are banned. Sorry but it happens every day and like you said you are quite obvious.
