Does anyone else try to seem 'normal'?

When I multiboxed a year ago, I really strived to seem as normal as possible, it just amused me I guess. I used different names, different looking characters and I tried to set up my macros to best simulate different players playing the different characters. And in hind sight, thank goodness I did it that way because I was able to get to mid 40s without a report, otherwise my hiney would have been grass since I was using my husband's abandoned account back then(I missed it in the EULA that it was a no no).

I'm sure it's not the most effecient way to multi box but when my battlechests arrive on monday, I'll probably do the same thing so was just curious if my hunch is correct and that I am indeed in the minority. :)

I don't know why, but I don't try to seem normal. I am a bit of an attention whore, me thinks. If I notice someone checking my team out I will /cheer or /tickle. I have been meaning to ask Dr. Phil about this behavior but I've just been busy :/

mboxing seems pretty normal to me...

My original multiboxing project got side tracked by RAF so I am working on getting 3 teams to 60. Some of them have been cookie cutter look alikes and some are different. I made a 4 hunter team out of two BE hunters I had and 2 new Orc RAF hunters (named father & daughter in Finnish) . My shaman team is two male and two female trolls named twelve, fingers, eight, toes - in Croatian. The Druid team will be all kinds of names and the locks are in my sig.

So over all I like mixing them up and being "normal", not out of a sense that I need to actually be normal just that I personally like it better.

I'm dualboxing on two different comps ATM, so invariably I seem very normal apart form looking like two total noobs.

I don't name my characters the same.

I deliberately made them look the same. They are the triplet sons of a great shaman searching for their father to join up and avenge the death of their mother.

If you have a legitimate setup of accounts you have very little to fear from being reported. These morons that dislike you will probably still realise you are a multiboxer.

I will make no concessions for the idiocy of others.

I'm not normal. to most people boxing isn't normal. That's half of it's awesomeness.

I name toons the same, or have names that go toghether. I also consider it a requirement that at least one thing in an entire team matches completely, be it race, gender, hairstyle or name subject matter.

My four shamans look exactly the same, even the skincolor is exactly the same. Did this because my goal was pvp and this way it's pretty confusing for some :)

I know I'm not normal, I'm a girl who likes to game and table top roleplay. I guess it's the roleplayer in me that gets a kick out of making all my characters different, then trying to get my macros set up so they'd behave as individualistic as possible. It wasn't out of fear of being reported, but that did work in my favor because I had no idea playing my husbands account was a BAD THING. When I played CoX, I never really got into any of my characters until I wrote up a background for them, once I did then they became much more interesting for me to play. I kinda wish you could write up backgrounds for characters on WoW. And no, I don't like to roleplay on an mmo, the potential cheesefactor is just way too great for me to get into it (I tried once on an rp-pvp server and it was fun in some ways but in others...*shudder*)...anyway, now I'm rambling.

So, was curious if I was the only one who was interested in doing it that way. :) I kinda expected to be in the minority because multi boxing takes a lot of skill and I can totally see how it'd be fun to be more 'in your face' about it and show off its awesomeness.

Well, my new group of dwarfen hunters tries to fit in... I even changed the follow macro so they are now running in a line instead as a single person. It would be great if you could explain in a bit more detail what you did to make the feel more natural / individual.

I probably shouldn't have used the word 'macro' because nothing I did was revolutionary or anything like that. I should have said use of keybindings for placement and such, definitely had them follow one another, rather than follow my main in one big group. Thankfully whatever I did was enough to keep people from being suspicious otherwise I would have lost my oldest account that I've had since beta. Phew!

I definetly tried to be as normal as possible at first, as I'm the kind of person that hates to get unwanted attention. For some bizzare reason as time went on I became more like the other boxers though using naming conventions trying to make the same classes with the same races ect. I blame this site for making it seem normal to be wierd?!

If you have a them following each other you should have a round robin macro that does

/train

It's childish I know - but I've done that when grouped with other people, it's a sure fire indication that it's real people :)

It's a piece of cake with only two characters, even in battlegrounds, but with 5 the big give-away is when you travel - 4 followers stacked on top of each other is a bit obvious :)

I still hate the attention that I get when I play all 5, but I see one of my server's multiboxers is taking the haters on head-to-head with regular shows in Ironforge.

So, yeah, maybe being "in your face" about it is the solution. I know for a fact that we can rustle up at least 20 high level shammies between the multiboxers on my home server and that should make for some good light shows :thumbup:

I tryed once IRL and failed hard, now i just meet up with pedobear on the holidays.

Try to create several follow macros in different following orders, as well as a the normal "all follow one" order.
That way you can can travel in a line, change running order and use the bulk to get around corners. I mix that up with some silly formation macros. Looks not quite natural if watched for a longer period of time, but if you watch it for only a short period of time, it doesn't look too strange.
I also have a "confusion" macro. Basically it will make my toons say "yes", "no", "/shrug", "/ponder", "bored", etc. Works well if you get asked if you're a multiboxer ;)
Will try to make my huunters as "Natural" as possible.

Same with the circuits, they're exact, right down to what face they have, skin color, everything. They're only in different gear because I just put on 'em quest rewards, whatever's laying around, anything that drops that I can use. No use gearing them when they blow through levels at hyperspeed. I started a 3 mage/1 priest Undead team, all male same hairstyle, different faces and colors. I'm putting together a 3 lock/ priest team all female undead, different hairsyles, same haircolor. and I'm thinking of a 4x hunter team, all female, one of each horde race that can be hunters <chicks with guns>, or a boomkin 5 man, so I can respec to tank and heal a 5 druid team. RAF has made me go mad, I need less work time and more leveling time....

Im currently playing 5 shamans as its my first multiboxing outing. 4 male orcs and 1 female orc, all look different as when levelling its a massive pain to get all similar gear especially when youre running instances. I treat them a little like a mini army and have some emote macros set up that gets a lol or a clap. One I use is I set up a cross formation break follow then mute, then I walk up and down and macro a say--"We're going into battle and not all of us are coming back, its gonna be dangerous but were Orcs". Unmute then macro /salute on my 4 followers. Mute again and say "Are you with me" Unmute--macro on followers /Kneel . Macro mount ride with extra line /s " For the Horde".

I only use mute / unmute to stop any feedback to the followers doing anything weird as Im walking about.

Im an old tabletop DnD player, guess its a hold over from there, but I enjoy treating the guys and girls as individual characters. I plan on only PvEing so its easy I guess. Word of warning though when you see your chars as seperate entities you start to notics characteristics developing with them. Like on of my chars is always dying no matter what and another always tries to run for the hills randomly (female orc) and another always seems to be using a 'grey' mace--All currently lvl 45.

I like to have a different look for all of my toons. But it's easier since I play different classes. :p

I haven't tried to look normal, but I did notice something that seems to help me avoid a lot of 'boxing baaaaaad' comments. Most of my team is BELF except for my druid. Most people don't notice the BELFs at all since they are hidden inside Shyl. In fact, I had someone invite the two of use into their guild. They even waved to Shyl and ignored the rest of my team.

Team 1: SP, Lock: SP Dranaei, 2 identical human locks.
Team 2: Druid, mage: Night Elf, 2 identical Dranaei mages

My friend put it best: "You gonna bring the twins?" Referring to my lock's. I got a kick out of it. I lead with the SP and she be getting kicked around lots might switch of to one of the locks as it seems they might be able to take a beating better than the SP.

I like to have two look identical and the third different, just a personal preference. Got asked the other day "Why multibox?" and this was actually sent to one of the guys I had invited since we where all doing the same quest. The guy was like just say you are 3 identical cousins that play together. Needless to say some people just dont get it, I did not even reply I was gonna ask why singlebox?
