New to hardware boxing. How does this sound

I am giving myself a $10,000.00 limit to build a full rig. Thats computers, monitors, mounts, desk, ect. I went to newegg and this is what I have come up with so far. Any input or ideas would be great.

Case - Cooler Master RC-690-KKN1-GP

HDD - Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB

Monitors - 4x SAMSUNG T220 Rose-Black 22" and 1x SAMSUNG 2443BWX Glossy Black 24"

Video Card - EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit

CD/DvD Drive - LITE-ON Black 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM

Sound Card - Creative Sound Blaster SB0570

Power - OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI 600W

Memory - Kingston 2GB (2 x 1GB)

MotherBoard - EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1

CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E7200

That is for 5 systems total. I dont know what kinda of KVM to get yet need to research that but what are your thoughts on those systems. with 24" in the middle and the four 22" on each side of the 24" 2x2?

Sorry am new but thought id post in here. For each rig your buying a dedicated sound card although the motherboard come with built in HD chipset? If its just for the "main" pc so to speak it makes sence but buying a dedicated SC for all of them is kinda a waste of money, which could go towards upgrading something else.

I build PCs and I agree with this man. Onboard sound is good enough. If I were 5 boxing, I most likely wouldnt have 5 speaker setups anyway.

10,000 is a ton o` cash you can build some fairly good rigs. If I wanted to get the best bang for the buck a good video card of course and max out RAM as much as possible (within reason)

$5k is enough for a good rig. $7k would be a great one. $10k can buy you an astonishing 5 box rig. Not even sure you need it.

Quad core with an 8800, 3 gigs on the main, 2 gigs of memory, 8600s, dual core on the slaves is really all you need. Looking at $2000 for the main box and $600 or so for the slaves - would put it at $5k or so once you add in hardware KMs, multicaster, etc.

Its your money though :) Just trying to help lay out costs and relative performance gains.

Im setting the 10k limit to include everything for set up and comps ... doesnt mean thats what im going to spend but i just gave myself a limit so i didnt go overboard. The stuff i liked up there to build 5 comps only comes out to about 6k witha few items i didnt list up there ( mounts for moniters and speaker set for main comp)

I'd definitely recommend going with a quad core and 4gb of ram on the primary system, this way you have the horsepower to record video if you end up wanting to down the road without any hit at all.

I'll just say, if you're serious enough about this to spend 10k, get a 30" monitor and a gtx280/4870x2 (depending on your brand pref) for the main computer.

The 30" monitor is spendy, but it's worth every penny. You won't regret it.

Agreed. With $10k, make one kickass main machine (45nm quad, X48, 8+GB ram, hd4870+, Raptors & SSD, 30" display), and go relatively budget on the 4 followers (E7200, p45, 4gb ram, 8800gt, 250gb hdd, 20" ws display).

I have a good recommendation for you. This is the monitor that I use - Its REALLY cheap when compared to 30" Monitors

I may not be the best person to interject their opinion here but honestly, a 30" is too big for MOST boxing setups. I have 6 but they are setup in portrait. And I sit far enough away. But honestly, if you are going to flank the monitor with 2 on either side, it will probably be too big for you and extend further in your peripheral vision than perhaps you want. Make mockups out of cardboard and try it out. 21" or even 19" is what seem to be preferable... although 17" works just fine too.

I'd take a 24" PVA-panel 1920x1200 display like the Dell Ultrasharp *any day* over a 28" TN-film panel display like this Hanns-G, for roughly $100-150 more. My roommate's got the same panel (Hannstar) in the 28" TN-film, and the color, contrast, and viewing angle can't compare to the Dell 2407. Viewing angle makes an even bigger difference on big displays up close, because the color & contrast will change much more drastically as you look from the front of the screen to the sides/corners. Granted, 28" is a ton of real-estate for $400+, but it's still the same resolution of any other 24" display, and quality is far less in TN-film technology than PVA-panels.

I'd have to disagree with you here. I have a 30" with a 20" monitor on one side (both about 3 feet from me), and I love it. In fact, I'm ordering a second 20" (well 2 new ones, actually, cause the one I'm using now is getting a little old) for the other side, for the classic portrait-landscape-portrait configuration.

I will confess that when i first got it it took a bit to get used to the size. However, once I adjusted, I love it. The resolution is just great when playing wow because I can have tons of mods all around the edges and still have enough space/resolution in the middle of the screen so it doesn't feel cramped.

So yeah, YMMV and all that, but I'll never willingly go back.

Wouldn't it be simpler, cheaper, and easier to buy 3 boxes instead? One main, and two slaves boxing 2 chars each, then using split screen on rotated widescreens... I dunno seems better to me.
