It is "just another class". If they'd make the DK too powerful everyone would be playing one and they'd rule PvP. Obviously.
They start out at 55 though, have a fancy quest chain, get brand new and shiny spells/skills and get a free epic mount.
All "Classes" in World of Warcraft are referred to as "Hero Classes."
i took a year off bc after i got to 70 and did a little kara, i enjoyed the leveling i took it really slow but after playing the beta it at least at first does not look like anything new, just back to the same old boring quests for kill x mobs ive seen before with a new skin or something.
You know then i came back to BC it was great, ZA was patched in , i could do all the heroics, and a few UI things were improved , XP was nerfed although i was 70, i played for a month over Christmas and i was in SSC gear then i was able to progress onto the endgame which i really enjoyed..
im taking my time getting some new characters up, but unfortunately i think they will be 80 before the same nerf's and instance patches happen, guess ill just have to quit for another few months after i get to 80.
i guess although i live for end game raiding , there is no point fighting for it at the start i can leave that to the europeans wait 3-6 months, blizz will have removed the cock blocks they use to slow things down.

It's just that a level 1 Death Knight would have made no sense. Other than starting at 55, they're going to be balanced like any other class.
I think that they made them lvl 55 cause people probably not roll them cause the 1-80 grind would be a pain in the ass. If they did roll DK what people would probably do is power lvl them to about lvl 60 and have no clue on how to play the class.
I would love to have 3 hunters and 3 mages to add to my team, but i did 2 teams (1 to 70, and the other to 60) and that wasn't fun. I'll probably get the 60 team to 70 and then call it quits on alts.

It basically describes what the designers were trying to achieve with the hero classes and the ideas that they looked at.
Ya, And I'm glad they didn't because the subclass system in Lineage2 just made me confused. Unlike Lineage2 you create your class in Wow at first, and then keeps it that way, i think you change or "upgrade" your class 2 or 3 times in Lineage2, making it really hard to decide what to choose and pick.Quote:

Subclasses in FFXI worked out well. Added some variety to the classes.
eh, not true. months after the xpac we had Draenei and Belf 70's, this was before leveling speed changes and RAF. With just speed changes, I'd imagine 1-80 will take about as long as 1-70 did at the start of BC. If they wanted to, DK's starting at 1 isn't that much of a haul for some, they just wanted DK's to be playable endgame faster, and not have to experience as much of a grind. I can do the 1-58 grind in my sleep now. it's old, tired, and thank god, because of RAF and I've gotten most classes to 60, I don't have to do very much of it anymore. 1-58 is autopilot mode.Quote:

I'll tell you this much now.... the Death Knights are VERY OP in beta atm. There will definitely be some nerfing and changes. It may be intended to allow for faster leveling, not sure. But no way at level 58 should I have been able to take on 6 level 59's and 60's and survive lol.
i think all new characters you create should be level 55... @_@
A prot Pally can start taking taking on multiple enemies before they get plate armour, I fail to see why a DK shouldn't be able to do similar. They are tanks after all.Quote:
