I went into a low, low 5v5 rated team with a friend to see what we would do in terms of raising it.
Our rating at the time was 1411 and the 2 first games we played was against people in 4/5 s4 gear with s3 everything else.
WTF
I thought they fixed arena.
How can such a low rated team have such good gear and still be so low?
Arena is just Lol. I 2v2 with my daughter. Rogue + feral druid. We suck and are a crappy comp. We hang out between 1400-1450 most of the time. It is where we belong. Every time we get close to 1500 we run into teams that WAY WAY WAY out gear us, crush us and we loose 16-17 points. I honestly do not understand it. If I thought we should be rated higher I would make a QQ thread. But meh, we get our gear slowly. I will live.
That happened to me last night. Made my 5v5 arena team with a blues/greens mix of early lvl 70 gear. Started at 1500 rating, and ended the night 0-10 at around 1400 rating. All fights were against 1500+ teams, and 5 of the last 6 was against the same 1800-1850 team in full S3/S4 gear. Oh well, not like I really care about PvP anyway. I'm just in it for the freebies, even if it takes me an extra week or two per item with a lower rating.
They didn't fix it. They adjusted it so that exploitive behavior was more difficult. Big difference. ;)
Also, the reason it's like this is because it isn't really a competition. It's a grinding wheel that is there to give the largest number of people the most attractive set of options for PVP gear and keep them all paying each month while simultaneously giving the appearance of competition to cut down on whines from the "pro" folks. It's the Wal-Mart of PVP, but with the added option of not having to do anything but walk around the store 10 times a week to get free stuff.
well then how do you get the dope rating with crap gear? Grind till you have great gear and go from there?
Why are they throwing seasoned veterans at us noobs?

Those with S4 pieces and maxed on 5k arena points are starting to whore their "skillz" to carry those who can't get the PR. And it's totally legit as far as Blizzard is concerned.
I did 21 games on monday night. 1500s bracket was all S2/S3, some S4. Dropped into the 1400s and started running into Tier 6 or Season 4 2 man teams trying to do 2v3. Wasn't until low 1400s and 1300s that people were as poorly geared as me, or worse. By then I actually started winning with priest/warlock/warlock.
How anyone with any gear at all drops below 1450 though is beyond me. Even 1500...
I bounce around between 1600-1700 brackets in 5v5, and everyone from 1500-1700 so far is full season 4 usually lol.
People try new comps
People bring in new players
People help new people l2play.
If anything the new changes ensured that high level teams are seen MORE often at 1500 (everytime they switch a player).
Gear matching never got implemented, end of story.
And yeah, basically just grind honor and do the best you can every week -- try to queue at different times to see if you can get better matches..

you can suck with s3 gear and be below 1500. There really aren't that many teams with crappy resilience like before.

If they made personal rating stay for each bracket reguardless of starting a new team it would be much better. So if you had guys who hit 2000 rating starting a new team it would put them up against a team with the avg rating of their team. They really need to get rid of team rating and just go with personal ratings. Its the only way to keep high rated players fighting high rated players.
I 3v3 with my current group. Im in the low 1200-1400 level and face people in S3 and some with S4. I just got my other shaman to 70 so I plan on testing 5v5s. The arena system is flawed. I have to remind myself of this whenever I play arena games. Getting 2k rating is going to be impossible with a new 70. At a min you need the honor gear s2 to have any sort of chance. Then you need to arena forever and try to gear up better. Skill matters, however, if you are outgeared from S2 vs S4 its going to be brutal.
My advice is to just arena 10 games and say piss on it. If you lose dont sweat it. Get your points and get the honor gear too. Use this free gear to farm pve heroics. It will give you decent pvp gear and allow you to skate through 5mans. If you think your going to be the next Ellay forget it. Maybe you could be an Ellay if you started boxing and arena S1 and been trading gear each season.
yeah, i just go for my 10 losses.. when i get some s4 and 400+ res maybe ill care:) i wish the game would take on a more DAOC type PVP...

Why are they not focusing on this issue? With many games coming down the pipe one that focus on PVP one would think WoW would try to improve theirs. Guild wars got it down, why can't WoW.
cause they don't have to.. there isn't 1 game coming that can hurt them warhammer is a HUGE disappointment.. if anyone leaves wow for it they will be back the next day..:(
Seems like their only goal with arena is to use live realms to test things out in order to further refine their "e-sport". There's only 1 player who I know of and have met that really liked arena on my realm.Quote:

I didnt have any problems with arenas and we're on the same server. Just different sides. I did however get a full gladiator team from last season that took 8 points from me but i was at upper 1700s. The low end 1400 bracket on Reckoning is rather pathetic, even to the 1700s. it gets decently hard around 1800.
Also I played your shamans on letyoudown with some friends who never pvp. We were in the 1500 bracket. You need to practice controlling your shamans better. You also blew a volley of lightning bolts and your insta gib on 1 grounding totem. You also had your shamans standing around not casting because they were facing the wrong direction.
Because it isn't about giving people valid/fair/etc. competition. It's about providing enough competition to keep as many people happy at once as possible, which gives people the temporary illusion of progress, which keeps people subscribing. Which usually ends up annoying mostly everyone to some extent.Quote:

It seems so few people are playing 5s these days, that I'm guaranteed to play the same 1 or 2 teams over and over if I queue for 10 games or more in one session. And usually they are either 200 points above or 200 points below me. Getting decent games in above 1800 seems really hard, so I can't even image what it's like at 2k+.
My team has queued at prime time, waited 6 or 7 minutes for a game, and then we get a 1400 rated team. And we were rated 1824 at the time. 5v5 is pretty dead.
I lol at the people that seem to be in wow for arena, and they measure everyone else against their ratings yardstick, as if we care or as if it really mattered.
I've only won 2 arena games in my life, and that was because half of the players didn't actually join the game for some reason.
Anyway, I've never been up against a single team that DIDN'T have S3/S4, and trust me, my ratings are in the pit because I'm a horrible PvPer with a grand total of 23 resilience.
I'm guessing you need to be in the negatives to start seeing people without full season 9999999 gear.
I hate it when it happens to me aswell.. But i tend to play some games on my shamans (3v3) and loose them all (really bad gear).. then use my warlock and a couple of friends to take the rating back to 1500-1600 for more points. leave+rejoin the next week and do it again.. that way my shamans PR drops to 1450ish, and can get points from up to a 1600 rated team.
My warlocks in mainly S4 gear now, with S3 shoulders etc.. 500 resi /1.2k dmg.. so we steamroll people from 1300-1500 with our healer dancing at the back, taking our 20+ points every game. It is annoying, but it's just the way the game plays.
At the end of the day, why would i take 230 points a week when i could take 350+... I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of other people you meet with brilliant gear isn't doing the same. Oh, and yeah people will be boosting others ratings for S4 chests etc shortly. I'll probably be doing it to help out friends in the next week or 2.

1380 rating @ 5v5 = 318 points. In 4 weeks, I would have S4 gloves.
So lets say I kept the team and lost another 120 points down to 1260 @ 5v5 = 291, so I'm paying 200g have around 300 points a week, instead of losing 27 arena points.
I mean, 200g a week from a 5-box doing daily is easy money and take less time compared to buying a new team and losing 10 games in the arena.
A Brutal Mail Gauntlet has 23 resilience, so that just doubles your indicated res doing minimal effort.
Sure you can get to 1700+ with the blue rep gear.

They'll be in your 1500 bracket for a bit, and then move up.
You'll get your gear soon and be able to compete on a level playing field.
You're complaing about how you can't compete with people when you have no gear on the FOURTH SEASON. Come on, everyone else has been competingt for a while and have gear. Gear is the "entry" ticket to being compettive, which is why the pt diff below 1500 is so much less then above 1500.
