4x Shaman 1x Death Knight

So I never thought I'd be interested in Death Knights. They seem too popular right now. But not too long ago I got my first beta key (and only one. /curse self for having 5 accounts with the same email), and while waiting around for the PvP server to come back up I decided to roll one on the PvE server. I was hooked SO fast. They're incredibly complex but manageable, and really are what you call Battle Mages. They're a bit like Shadowknights were back in EverQuest 1, but more challenging.
Wowwwwwwwwwwww. Holy effing ess. The starting experience is the best writing I've seen in any Warcraft game, ever. What a great quest line.
I know the way to do things right is have a paladin tank and 4x elemental shamans, but I think i want to do the opposite for a few reasons.
I'll never play a paladin. I have a problem with anyone who spreads religion with a sword. But I LOVE me some redemption stories, and the DK one is like... whoa.
Windfury Totem (which is now a haste buff instead of a weapon proc buff), Strength of Earth (which now adds 86 strength AND agility), Wrath of Air and 4x Totem of Wrath should all be things a DK would love. Plus, just doing the starter quests got me up to 57.999999 (enough that my first gryphon ride, landing somewhere gave me discovery XP so I had to fly right back where I came from to train 58)
Anyone have any experience trying this? The one I'd really like is the 61-point Death Knight Frost tree "Hungering Cold", which could at best freeze up to 10 enemies for 20 seconds out of each minute. They're basically all frost-trapped; any damage will break the frost sleep.
DKs also have the coolest taunt thing ever; it's just got a 10-second or so cooldown like a warrior's taunt, but can be done from 30 feet away (I'll let you see that for yourself).

So overall I think they're going to make a great pairing with one or more shamen. Has anyone had a chance to try it out yet? I'm just 1-boxing, so borrrrring.

DK is QUITE fun mines 58 or something like that...however... I think that there will be so many running around... meh... later.

It will die off as it did with shamans and paladins. But it would make a great team =).

i don't care how many people will be playing them, thankfully if I end up needing a tank for my team, I will have the option to roll one of these.

I'd rather skip content I would need a tank for, then roll a belf pali :thumbdown:

I'm considering 4x DK/1x resto shaman or 1x DK/4x ele shaman. Haven't made up my mind yet.

Also, I plan to be ganked a lot the first few weeks, but its ok I don't care about being first to 80.

I was thinking of rolling a frost DK for my mages. With all the frost spells they have, it would play nicely with a frost mage.. if their freeze is like mage freeze then that would mean some nice shatter crits

Indeed nice for pve but it will be hard in pvp due to dim returns :(

Imagine in 5v5 arenas...

DK uses deathgrip (25 sec cd with talents) to pull target to group, freezes in place, 4x shaman blow up target.
Rinse repeat :D

ok i been slacking when it comes to reading up on dk. but i heard they are acceptable tanks?

anyone know anyting on how they are to use as a tank for a boxer?

or.. shamans stationary.. run out with your DK.. freeze em and dps.. then if someone runs towards the clones.. deathgrip and burst him/her down :)

But think if the other team has a dk :cursing: . They could pull your clone or main to team and dps the hell out of you. Think about 1 dk and 4 rogue combo. DK pull the healer to them and then dps the hell out of the heal, vanish and repeat.

Since deathgrip is a single target spell, grounding totem should eat it.

I was also thinking the DK deathgrip to the shaman would be for those teams that LOS for a while at the beginning of the match. If one sticks his head out, boom he is now across the areana eating lightning bolts with the rest of his team still LOS.

I was thinking how funny its going to be watching the tug of war between a dk and a lock where the dk uses deathgrip to pull a lock to them, then the lock uses demonic circle to port back to the spot he got yanked from :D With deathgrip, demonic circle, blink, thunderstorm, w/e toons are going to be bouncing around arenas like a ping pong ball in an empty trailor.

what i would love to see is have a couple shams one on each side of a toon and have them use the aoe to bounce the person back and forth... might have to do it in an arena setting where everyone is against you but the people you are teamed with.

My question is about the amount of micromanagement in order to do the job. Pali tanks are easy for boxers because of their aoe tanking abilities with consecration, as apposed to all the button pushing you have to do with a war to control multiple mobs and keep them off your clones. So can you expound a little more along these lines, will a dk be closer to having the pali aoe type tanking, or the war type of tanking abilities?

It's classified as "physical", so I'd guess it's like taunt and a grounding totem wouldn't do anything.
