New Pc Low FPS issues (3 sessions)

Well ive read up a bit on what to check and i feel ive done a bunch of different tests.

Current setup:

PC:
Q6600
(2) EVGA GeForce 8800GTS
8 gig ram

Using 1 video card (output 1 & 2) Prefer to use both cards
Disabled VSync in all sessions and on Nvidia
Lowered all Multisampling to 24bit color 16bit depth 1xmulti (main) 2 clones 16, 16, 8x
FPS Main 12 Clone 1 (11) Clone 2 (11-12) This is not in Shatra either.

Dual video cards seem to be the same fps. I am using keyclone and Ive tried maximizer with very little change from this. Please im open for any ideas.

just a WoW issue or do you have problems with other games too?

OS?

Vista Business 32bit.

Something isnt setup right. with 2 cards Ive got to be getting better FPS than this.

Solo now im getting 25 if im lucky goes up and down to 11 - 24.

Are you really running Vista32 with 8GB RAM? If you are then, quite honestly, whoever sold it to you should be shot.

How much video RAM do your two cards have (this will reduce the total memory available to a 32bit version of Windows)?

Have you looked in the performance monitor to see if there are any clues in there (what exactly is constraining you)?

How much physical memory does the task manager / performance monitor report to be available when you're running 3 WoWs? How much in total, too?

I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that you don't have enough accessible memory.

BTW, you won't gain any noticeable advantage in having 2 graphic cards... WoW doesn't take advantage of SLI technology. I've had it, tried it... and sold one.
How much FPS's do you get when u're running a single WoW client? W/o multi-boxing?

This is crap i did have it at 45ish, not sure what I changed but ill reboot and try single again.

With 8GB of ram on a 32 bit OS he should still be seeing about 3gb which is more than enough to run 3 clients. I'd definitely suggest pulling the 2nd card out, depending on your mainboard the 2nd card could be throttled to 4 or 8 PCI-Express lanes instead of 16, which if someone sold you 8gb of ram and a 32bit OS then they likely didn't sell you a good mainboard... if you built and spec'd the system yourself it's quite possibly the cumulative noob mistakes killing you.

So from here I'd pull the 2nd card physically from the machine, see if your performance gets better. You may want to drop the memory down to 4gb and test it then. I doubt the extra 4gb would affect anything but it's possible.

That'll be 1Gb flat then, leaving you with a shade over 2Gb of available memory under a 32bit OS.

It doesn't matter if you actively use them, they're still "mapped" into memory unless you've physically removed them. Disabling one in device manager might have the same effect, but I couldn't swear to that.

Generally not. Applications need to be specifically coded to take advantage of SLI / Crossfire technology. You might get a gain if you connected a monitor to each (i.e. drive each monitor from a separate card), but I've no experience with that myself.

Ohhh no you weren't! Silencer specifically mentioned the increased memory addressing capabilities of 64 bit OSes in your thread about the machine before you ordered it :)

32 bit OSes can only address an absolute maximum combined total of 4Gb (including video RAM). It's actually a bit less, but that's a good starting point for this sort of discussion.

Add-ons will increase the total amount of memory each WoW needs, but it's usually a small amount in the big scheme of things. Some add-ons can also cause frame rate reductions if they're hooked into lots of events and/or aren't coded very well.

It'll be interesting to see how much memory the task manager reports, but I think I see an (pain-free) migration to Vista64 in your future :D

32-bit OS only recognises 3.2GB Ram, and not 4GB.

Subtract 1 GB due to your video cards leaves you with 2.2GB Ram. Running 3 instances each taking approx 500MB leaves your OS and running progs with ~700MB, which is generally low for Vista.

I can understand how his framerates are lower then expected.


Remove a video card completely, or you could try disabling it in Device Manager.
Install a 64-bit OS immediately, be it XP 64 or Vista 64.
When using 2 monitors in Vista, choose Dual View (or Clone) and not Horizontal Stretch View. The 2 monitors should be plugged into the same card (obvious, if you followed the above steps).
The Alts should be run on 800x600 resolution, then manipulated however you like using maximizer. If you are using a widescreen, choose an appropriate widescreen res compared to 800x600.

The number 1 thing is getting a 64-bit OS. You can try to deal with your framerates using SLI, and I'm sure you will be able to get decent framerates, but the above is a recommendation that will guarentee a fix for your problem.

I run a Q6600, 4GB Ram, 512MB GT8800 w/Dual Monitor, Vista 64, 5 instances.
I run with combined 98MB addons running between the 5 instances and get 25FPS on active and 25FPS on Inactive instances in Shatt, 40FPS on Active and 30FPS (max setting as per Config.wtf) everywhere else.
