Grats!
Also curious how you've found dungeons so far. Have you attempted any of the end-game dungeons like Scholo or LBRS yet?
I have been farming LBRS all the time 56-60.
I read that people like to use a Locks eye to pull then aoe with 4 mages using Blizzard in pugs.. no healer needed.. does Blizzard do more dps that Arcane expolsion?
Hmmn I wonder if it's more mana efficient?

The idea is that stuff dies before Blizzard is relevant and kiting with Blizzard is easy when you play 4 mages separate.
Arcane explosion does more DPS but blizzard provides an AE snare when talented. People use blizzard to snare the mobs so they can avoid being hit.
Including the bosses? That's pretty impressive. I would have thought there'd be some bosses in the 55+ dungeons that would be pretty rough without a tank.
Ah ok thanks :)
How would it be with 5 Arcane mages then?
Voidwalkers have about the same armor value as a plate wearer plus 10% physical mitigation if talented. Should be plenty of EH to tank any 5man boss and some raids.
The problem is threat. I've read a lot of complaints on the forum that you can pull off the voidwalker with dots/wand alone. I'm not sure about the people posting those comments though. Half of them probably don't have 3/3 improved voidwalker trained and the other half probably don't know you have to buy upgrades to pet skills.
Needs proper testing.
Arcane Explosion is a relatively unique spell in WoW. It's about as close to zero sum as you get. If Arcane explosion is enough to kill, it's worth it, if it's not, it's basically useless. By this I mean, if you stack enough mages to where you can frag a mob out, you can frag out any number of similar HP level mobs at once, and you can do it quickly. Which means, that often times arcane explosion is situational at best for a lone or even duo of mages, but get 3, 4, or as the people who were raiding instances before the nerf, 5-8 mages, and suddenly you are able to kill 20-30 or even entire instances in a single pull. It's not terribly mana efficient, and this is why it's usually not the most effective way to spend mana for a lone mage. However, if you got enough to kill with it, then you can kill everything with it, at once.
Other AOE's, tend to be slower and more efficient, or simply not viable like Holy Nova. Physical aoe is also typically hit capped, to just a few mobs. Which is why stacking mages is basically broken as a leveling mechanic. They are playing by different rules than everyone else :)
For melee cleave teams, I recommend you get the following item on your ravagers. https://classicdb.ch/?item=5421
I also recommend you get ravagers, as they will serve you all the way to 60 depending on the pull.
Is there some horde equivalent for the fiery blaze? Other than that, pressing abilities (if they go off) will cancel the ravager bladestorm, how are you going to incorporate that in dps macros?
Got the weapon on my shaman so to clear up a few things, the bs has no internal cd, can procc of itself and does more damage from shamans rockbiter ap buff. Doesnt procc any shaman weapon imbues and also no auto hits while its up and you're stuck in place. Amazing weapon for melee cleave grind :).
5 Boomkin at level 22. Went into Deadmines. Had to proceed slowly. Only made it through the first two bosses wipe in between them and then once in the smelter room before I head out. Had to go really slowly and snipe my way along.
That said, outside of the dungeon, I can solo PVP players up to 7 levels higher.
I make a macro for all the abilities I don't want to interrupt BS. So I'll make a macro that is like /cast [nochanneling] heroic strike. This lets you continue spamming your DPS without interrupting BS procs. Then just make a macro to cancel channels, if you need to reposition while one or more characters are spinning to win.
Congrats Vipeax. Can you send what mage/priest builds that worked well for you and your technique? I have been running the same comp and am getting beaten down by bosses when I get to them. They just tear through my bubbles and shields and even if susceptible to frost nova seem to break free and kill half or more of my team. It’s slow going at present.
Currently trying out 3xhunters/priest/mage. The mage is thrown in mostly because I want to main one at 60 with the added comfort of water and portals. The thought is to use the huntard pets as tanks, but I'm not sure they are sturdy enough to run dungeons all the way up to 60. I saw in a previous thread that they should be a bit tankier than voidwalkers, which sound promising.
I'm hoping that this will work as I am not to keen on including a proper tank class.
Lvl 38 with exactly 6 days played. 1 Warrior, 3 Mages, 1 Priest - did not AoE grind anything. Am in SM since lvl 31. All traidskills around 175-200ish.
8days 23hours 1-60, took longer than expected, pretty much only dungeon grind and abit of questing for pre-qs 58-60.
Prot warr, holy priest, ele shaman, arcane/frost mage, ruin/sacrifice lock
I like the setup now for the dungeons at 60 but the levelling itself was abit gimped because of the shaman having no real aoe, it did 1/4 of what the warlock and mage pulled, also ran warrior as arms 1-50ish which was a big mistake since I couldn't gather more than 1-2 grps at a time for the aoe.
Done a few UBRS runs with randoms on the server and only had 2 wipes, one of which was my fault not dismissing totems before rend
All in all I like the setup, but for MC I will be going fury warrior instead of also tanking.
I'm level 42. I have been questing, mixing in dungeons. Alliance on a PvP server that is has one of the higher horde dominated ratios, so STV has been filled with craziness. Enjoying it really. I am specifically not initiating PvP but if someone messes with me I just add them to my list and take note for next time. If a group get the jump on me its basically over, but if I do initiate I have a decent shot. 90% of horde leave me completely alone. 1% get quite obsessive about chasing me.
Biggest annoyance so far - last night running Armory, was about the 6-7th time - Scarlet legs drop and I pop back up top to AoE the small guys coming in - then I just walk out and reset without looting them! Ran Arms/Cath a bunch more times and they never dropped but I have everything else so will probably just move on.
I'm multi-boxing as a challenge, but I also want to be able to help my friends @ 60 so I have played 5 different classes that can sub into their groups at any time. It has meant I'm not really set up for AoEing dungeons, so I am a bit slow. Its not far off an AoE comp though by chance - Warrior / Mage / Lock / Priest / Paladin. Tanking with warrior as arms, healing with pally as holy. Mage/Lock/Priest mostly single target spam. Priest goes oom a lot and I don't think holy nova would cut it for AoE contribution.
Gold was an issue, I could afford 4/5 mounts @ 40 - but couldn't get 5th until 41.
Level 30 on my Pally, Priest, 3x Mage team. I gathered all the quests for Stockades before I went in at 24, and spent the last few days running around finishing up all the quest lines. That really slowed me down, but my OCD can't let me continue with any kind of grinding until my quest logs are clean. Next time I log on I have to finish the quests in Duskwood, finish the Test of Rightousness Paladin quest, and then I can finally farm Stockades to milk the last few levels out of it.
Are there any indications yet at higher level regarding the optimal 4 casters/1 healer setups. Are there any major differences in clearing ability with a lock team compared to mages?
I haven't been able to play as much as I've wanted, but so far I've leveled 3 teams a little bit.
5x shaman: meh. Level 12 or so and just beginning to be able to take things up to the first boss of RFC, but I'm just not feeling it.
5x paladin: a little better, leveled to 16 but they're still squishy enough that I need to heal a bunch and they run oom all the dang time.
5x hunter: saweeeeeet! Before pets they were just wrecking stuff before it could get to me, and with pets just forget about it. Level 11 now and the Defias Pillagers in Westfall have been dying usually before they can get off a pyroblast.
It's hard to say, noone has 2 teams with both setups at 60 to compare it for them self, lock vs mage in my mixed team I can say they do close to equal damage on single target, on AoE my lock is abit ahead but needs way more healing since there is no threat reduction.
Interrupting mobs are also a thing, so mages arcane explosion is better in that case.
Im running arcane/frost so the mage never runs out of mana single target before the fight is over, the warlock needs to life tap in the rotation but it seems to equal out dmg wise.
Thank you for your insights. I'd guess a warlock setup is a fair bit more tanky considering the voids, especially in boss encounters. I still can't decide and fully commit to a 4 mage versus 4 warlock setup. Both are tempting, so I keep jumping back and forth. Rather annoying :).
I hit a wall lvl 32 Alliance team. Everywhere I go in contested I get camped by skulls. Right now I am living in SM trying to instance grind but it's boring as hell.
Warrior/Priest/3xMage level 24. I've fully cleared DM/VC like 8+ times. Just doing Stockades now and only clearing trash (fear boss is tricky).
Actually thinking about trying the 5x Paladin team though.
So far, lv 42 on my 4x lock 1x priest. Doing mostly dungeons, but also some side quests. Locks seems fun, tho pushback is nasty! If you were alliance, the dungeons would go so much smoother due to no push back which makes 4x lock 1x hp so good for pve farming.
Overall, I expect to hit 50 this week: )
Brand new to boxing (classic has been my first time boxing)
Got 60 on all a week ago - Prot Paly, 3 Arcane mages, Disc Priest (pom AP flamestrike @player and PI holy nova just melts players/trash it is crazyyy)
Paladin pulls a few packs with priest bubble -- consecrates -- wait 2 ticks and arcane explosion down -- this works amazingly well.
Having a ton of fun -- have been able to clear every dungeon ive tried without much issue (BRD, STRAT Live/UD , LBRS -- still need to get the key and try scholo).
Paladin does have some mana/single target threat issues but nothing that cant be mitigated. Definitely recommend this comp to any alliance players/new boxers.
Playing on Fairbanks - Horde, 3x mage @ lvl 50 atm. I'm mostly questing as I despise dungeon grinding and my play times allow me to do quests on almost empty zones. That said, if I need to run a dungeon for a quest, I get 2 randoms and power through the instances or just run them by myself.
I'm at 12 days /played but I've all my professions at 300 or almost there and been playing the AH a little bit as well
Just started today with warrior/priest/2 mage/ WL. Got to level 5 and had to go offline then. I currently plan to enter human starting area. I already finished the gnomish one.
Anyone tried a 4 melee + pally / shaman comp? Curious how 4 war / shaman would work out. PvE and PvP
Intensity plus Aura. 100% pushback protection!
