Hi Owen, me thinks you shouldn't let the demo add a 4th application if demo is limited to 3, otherwise people will get nuts wondering why it doesn't work. Note that you are not stating demo limits elsewhere on your application or website.

Duplicate the world of warcraft folder (it is in Applications), then create 2 warcraft accounts, run both, start Plexer, press Add on Plexer, bring both WoW instances to the foreground, choose a toggle broadcasting key in Plexer, and press that key. That is mostly it.
Unless you want different settings for your different WoW apps. :)
Another way to do it is to create links with the ln tool, but that's a little more complicated.
I plan on adding this support into v2.0 to make it easier for non-tech people that just want this crap to work. :)
@Valsharess...
yes, the website is crap and completely unhelpful. I'll be doing a complete re-work of it with v2.0, though that's still a ways off... maybe I should add a note on there...
Maybe it would be useful being able to toggle key blacklisting to chat normally. Right now Im using caps for blacklisted wasd keys.
I tried resizing WoW with the SizeUp application from irradiatedsoftware.com but didn't work either. I emailed them a bug report.
It's not a SizeUp application issue, it's the way that Blizzard handles the window resizes that don't come from the application. There's little us programmers can do to work around the issue.
I currently just have enter set as my Toggle broadcasting button. This way, when I want to chat I just chat like normal. Enter to open, enter to close. Toggles it on and off.
It does get screwed up when whispering due to hitting R for reply and whatnot. But I can deal with it by using [Enter] then /r
That is a good idea rfuilrez, but how do you set enter in the "To toggle broadcasting:" combo box? It seems as if it only lets me select the function keys.
I messed up on my previous try with SizeUp. This application works correctly, even moving instances from monitor to monitor and maximizing windows. I don't know what trickery are they using.
I modified the Plexer_ON.png of my plexer to display a filled circle inside the arrows when Plexer is active, it is easier to see that just the blue arrows alone.
Hmm... I'll have to give it a try and see if I can't figure out what magic is going on.
Ok, so I downloaded the SizeUp program and can't resize the WoW windows arbitrarily either. It's still locked into the min-size set by Blizzard and limited to the correct aspect ratio.
Are you seeing something different?
These are four instances running on a 23'' Cinema Display (1900x1200):

Before SizeUp I was doing the same thing manually. There is a vertical strip of empty space, between the windows because WoW won't lose the aspect ratio but that's fine with me.
Yes, that's the standard resize you can do. As of patch 3.3 you can resize the windows better, though many Mac users have had significant performance problems and have changed back to the old graphics way which doesn't allow you to resize the windows as well.
I've had to revert to the old Open GL driver as I think the majority of mac users have had to do until Blizz resolves the issue. The downgrade in performance with 3.3 was terrible. At least they acknowledge the problem.
Yeah, it's so bad that in the next patch they'll be defaulting Mac users back to the old version until they can work out all of the issues.
Program works great. Very very few problems with it other than the crash on exit thing which is really no big deal.
One request is the ability to designate a Do Not Pass list on an per application basis. I'd like to be able to do something like the following
A, B, C, D, E being the instances of wow open with A as primary
1,2,3,4,5,6 all pass to all wow instances
7,8 only passes to A, B, C, D
9 only passes to A and E
I'm not sure if you can exclude the focused window but that is not really a big deal. Mainly the abliity to have keys not pass to certain wow instances would be nice.
And as always, window positioning and resizing.... :)
The focused window gets whatever key you press. I can look into stealing the keystroke.
Any changes with the new patch? Can't size windows as small anymore...
Hello,
does the demo work ? or just show how it looks ? For me it did not really work, I just was able to rnu it and configure it, but no actual broadcasting of the keystrokes...
Cheers, Jens
Hey,
Do you think Repeater Regions (as in ISBoxer) is anything that's possible to make for Plexer? Would be another awesome feature to add, but I'm sure you've looked into it - just curious! :)
Cheers!
I have returned, or i was wondering as to the current state of network support for those odd users who just decided to crash our motherboard through triboxing, go go warranty for replacements being as such, i would like to actually be able to see all three of my characters on a individual screens, while operating from one computer, though running on two. :) So anyhow, i will be more than willing to take a beta or upgrade price, need network support :( my warranties about to expire so unless i can crash my motherboard again by june 30th and get it replaced again it would be appreciated;)
Sorry, no networking support. :(
are you still planning on adding this feature or not?
and if so when are we going to see a possible release with it?
I can help you with that decision, its worth it hehe:D
Network support would be absolutely fantastic. I already use plexer and it's great. Ability to broadcast keys to another machine would be beyond fantastic.
Not to hijack Plexer (Great App), but Multilaunchbox handles network support.
Owen (Owner of plexer right?) If your interested I could share the MLB network support code if you want to integrate it into Plexer.
Another keyboard broadcasting solution for Mac. Very nice and with network support! If Netowrk support is functional I can reduce the load of my main-Mac by off-loading two WoW-copies into laptop.
I'll try it as soon as I get home!
Does it support window-scaling positioning? One annoying thing with WoW is that it keeps it's window-settings. I've used shell-script to launch 5 copies of WoW but they will start on top of each other. My current solution is apple-script shown in some post which writes the preference-file before starting each client.
I would love to answer any question regarding Multilaunchbox (MLB), but not on Plexer's thread.
I do have a thread introducing MLB. I will post your answer there. Sorry if it's inconvenient but I don't want to take over Plexer's focus on this thread.
Is there anywhere to dynamically effect: AppleDisplayScaleFactor?
AppleScript:
do shell script "defaults write NSGlobalDomain AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.90"
If you can do this with a running application you'd be able to "resize it". Then you just need to figure out how to move the window position while running.
Regards,
- V
AppleDisplayScaleFactor is a solution that I don't like. It makes the menu bar scaled based on the size of the window. I personally think it looks like poo! :)
Hey... i tried to use Clonekeys on my macbook. It works but i cant blacklist some keys like w-a-s-d. Can you help me? Or can you tell me a better programm?
You could use Plexer or MLB. Both have a more extensive blacklist/whitelist interface. I use Plexer and have not used MLB so I can only vouch that Plexer works well for my purposes.
As you may already know, the suite of key broadcasters for OSX is both limited in choices and functionality across the board.
Dunno if this Plexier or not, but wanted to find out if anyone experienced this issue.
Could be lag, could be memory issue, but every now and again, my slaves bug out and start running in whatever direction they are facing. Had this happen a couple of times in clutch situations, which kinda sucks but happens.
I'm running war, hunters and a resto shammy, so basically I park my slaves, run around and collect the mobs. Rinse, lather, repeat. So when this happens, its usually not good. Only way I've been able to find to make them stop running is to press a movement key in a direction, and toggle thru each of the windows, and then it stops. And it happens to every instance open, except the master window.
My machine is MacBook Pro 3.06GHz Intel Core 2, 4 GB memory.
Anyone else experience this?
I know you asked back in January, but I went on a hiatus after replying about using "enter" as the broadcast toggle key for Plexer and didn't see you ask.
I don't have my Mac set up right now, and don't know the specifics of it but heres a brief overview.
In HOME/Library/Application Support/<Something about plexer>
There is a .plist file. Inside the file is a line about broadcasting. Basically all you do is change it to the command number for the enter key. I forget what the number was, or what it defaults to so I can't get super specific. But I googled it. It was like 28 or something was enter.
Sorry I can't offer more help, but I wont have the Mac set up for another few weeks. At that point if you haven't gotten it, and still want it I can give you exactly what you need.
