do you have one set up for a disc priest by chance? :)
You'd want Penance, Holy Fire and Smite as your holy DPS.
But SW: Pain, SW: Death, Devouring Plague and Mindblast are decent shadow DPS.
I am rather partial to Smite, since it heals (talented).
And tend to use Penance the most when questing.
It all depends on whether you want the priest to be the healer, or a DPS/heal support.
Thanks Ualaa for all the above replies. As usual, you are correct on every point and have done a nice job explaining things.
Stingc, to be honest I haven't messed with the Prot Warrior macros very much. The only thing I really use the single attack on is when I'm using him to tank the 3D Sarth. The macro works well enough to keep threat even when three of my DPS are putting out over 10K damage, so it's got to be pretty good
As to it getting hung over the long hall, I guess that's possible - I never use that macro for more than a minute at a time (if Sarth is up for more than a minute, it is a wipe), so I haven't tested over the long term. I'm also out of town visiting family so can't test it for the next five days.
Then again, in the PM you sent me this morning, it looks like your 2 Step setup isn't quite correct, so that could be the problem as well. Let's work it from two angles - I'll send you a reply to try to get your 2 Step fixed, and if you find something in your testing to optimize the tank macro, just post it here.
Experimented a little on my Holy Priest today
I made this macro on my second step key "e"
On ActionButton3 i got ChakraCode:/click ActionButton3
/click ActionButton4
/click ActionButton4
/click ActionButton5
On ActionButton4 i got this macro
On ActionButton5 i got Desperate PrayerCode:#showtooltip
/tar TANK
/cast Guardian Spirit
So when I spam my 2Step key, my priest try to cast these spells when available
Thanks Mercurio, These own!
do you perhaps got any worked in evocation macro forthe mage? ^^
also for the warlock ^^
Would you really want to macro evocation? I think it works much better as a separate key so you can use it when you need it. Life Tap is already in Merc's macros but you could put it on a separate button as well to use when needed. You shouldn't have mana problems with a destro luck.
For the proc macro, why do you do the Lava Burst as another cast sequence? I tested the 2 step macro above and its works ok, but I've found that Lava Burst doesn't always go off immediately when its ready. Usually I get 2-3 extra LB's before Lava Burst goes off. I spam my keys, so perhaps this is causing the issue?
However, I've been using this macro
/castsequence reset=combat/8 Flame Shock,Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt,Earth Shock,Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt
/cast Lava Burst
When I test this, Lava Burst goes off immediately on the next cast when its ready. Overall, it is a DPS increase.
daanji,
Great, I wasn't aware that having Lava Burst as a /cast wouldn't crater the macro. Since Lava Burst is an important part of Ele Shaman DPS, I'm sure having it cast on every cooldown (as compared to *almost* on every cooldown) is better for your shaman's DPS.
However, there are a couple of nice things about having Lava Burst split into the proc macro: it causes your shammies to drop their totems every once in a while (nice for movement fights) and more importantly, will cause your shammeis to ensure that their searing totem is always up. Not having a fire totem up would be a have a large impact on your team's overall DPS. If you use the current proc macro you will mindlessly always have the totem buffs even though you suffer a bit of a DPS loss on your Ele Shaman.
So the question is, can we figure out a good way to use your sequence macro with Lava Burst in it (for better Ele Shaman DPS) and combine it with a different proc macro that automatically casues you to refresh your totems every so often and your fire totems every 60 seconds? Would something like moving Elemental Mastery into the proc macro work? The new proc macro would look like:
/castsequence reset=combat/8 Call of the Elements,Elemental Mastery,Searing Totem,Elemental Mastery
The normal cooldown on Call of the Elements is 3 minutes. This is reduced by the Feedback talent by 3 sec per cast of Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning, but I don't think this is enough to get the cooldown near 1 minute (what we'd like it to be so totems are refreshed every minute by the above proc macro). I'm out of town for the holidays or I'd test some things out.
If you'd like to do some testing on this and figure out a nice solution, I'd be happy to update the master post accordingly. In the meantime, I will probably keep my proc macro as it is so the totems are managed automatically.
The problem with automatically dropping the fire totems is that it will cause your Fire Elemental to despawn if you currently have one up. And the Fire Elemental is a huge part of the shammy DPS sequence, and something you don't want to overwrite if possible.
Please forgive me for sounds newbish. I believe I understand the the overall concept pretty well, I can follow the directions to creating the Key mappings in ISBoxer fairly well, but the part that is confusing me is putting a macro on the ; key.
The main spam key on 2 is not an issue. Use the in-game macro tool, type the text of one (or several) of the wonderful macros supplied in this thread, then drop the icon on the number 2 of my action bar.
Now, after I use the same in-game tool to make the Proc macro, just how do I bind that macro to the ; key?
Edit:
After reviewing previous posts, I see your reply to someone else's issue stating that you needed to bind the ; key to some button on some actionbar. I was hoping that there was some way to create a macro and assign it to a key without it taking up actionbar space.
Can you post a macro for a fury warrior?
Thanks for the feedback! I usually drop my totems using separate keys for each situation. I have general purpose buff keys, which causes the shamans to drop their totem, do water / earth / lightning shield, and buff their weapons. The other classes do their buffs as well. I also have a separate key for Fire / Earth Elemental. I also have a separate key for magma, nova and searing totems. Finally, I have a key for pvp that drops stoneclaw(it is glyphed for pvp), healing stream, and grounding totem when I get into trouble.
I haven't really considered adding totem drops as part of my standard shaman rotation, especially searing totem as that can pull mobs that I don't want. However, I see the value in it since it less to do manually, which I'm sure is a godsend in the 10-mans you do :)
I've been using ISBoxer and the {SLOT} macro functionality for my holy / disc priest, and it's working great.
For bubbles, I basically set up a Mapped Key with 6 steps. The first step has the cast sequence for the disc or holy priest, and the next 5 steps have the Shields. For the shield cast I used
... and then step through the SLOTs in the next 4 steps.Code:/castsequence [target={SLOT1}] reset=30 Power Word: Shield
My five man team stays all nice and bubbled and I've had zero problems facerolling content with this setup.
Since I can always drink in-between pulls while I'm looting, I'm not terribly concerned about mana conservation at this point. Cata may change that, but for now it's working great.
If you are using Lax's "FTL DPS Keys" keymap, you already have a "DPS 2" mapped key that simply sends the keypress of a "2" to all windows when you press "2".
Create another mapped key within "FTL DPS Keys" called "2 Step" that is also called when you press "2" but has two steps - the first sends "2" to all windows (exactly as above), while the second step sends ";" to all windows.
Now all you need to do is set up a new mapped key in your "Control" key map. I called mine "2 Step Toggle" and associated it with the "Insert" key. It will have two steps in it.
Step one has 3 actions:
1) A new mapped key state action (one of the options when you add a new step) that toggles the "DPS 2" mapped key within "FTL DPS Keys" to On
2) A new mapped key state action that toggles the "2 Step" mapped key within "FTL DPS Keys" to Off
3) A popup text with a message like "2 Step Turned OFF"
Step two has 3 actions:
1) A new mapped key state action that toggles the "DPS 2" mapped key within "FTL DPS Keys" to Off
2) A new mapped key state action that toggles the "2 Step" mapped key within "FTL DPS Keys" to On
3) A popup text with a message like "2 Step Turned ON"
That's it! Use "Insert" to turn your toggle on or off.
Attach the sequence macros to your "2" key in WoW and the proc macros to your ";" key in WoW. Done.
(Of course, you may want to associate your proc macros with something other than ";" - Pinot used "9" and sent the 2nd step of his "2 Step" mapped key action to "9".)
Also, Va1entines was good enough to post a couple of screenshots of this set up in ISBoxer (thanks Va1entines!):
I understand how this is supposed to work but am new to boxing and newer to ISBoxer, were in any of this does it show how to set the ";" key in isboxer? I'm having a real bad time at trial and error tryig to figure it out myself.
A mapped key has a few ingredients.
Most have a hotkey to activate them.
Although they don't need this, if they'll only be activated by another mapped key.
They usually do one thing.
IE, have one step.
If you wanted a mapped key on the " ; " key...
You would probably make a new mapped key.
Use the ; as the hotkey.
And have it output (in actions) the ; key to all windows.
In the case of Mercurio's macros.
There is a spam key, which can be '2' or whatever you want to spam.
This is the hotkey for the mapped key.
It has two steps, because it does one thing on the first press, and something different on the next press (at which point it resets to the first press).
He has chosen "2" as the output of the first press, and ";" as the output of the second press.
But "2" is the only key which is pressed, and it will likely be spammed.
If you always want the "proc" on this is a decent way to do it.
If you want to be able to disable it.
You'll want something like the approach you linked in green.
I'd have a mapped key, using whatever key I wanted to spam.
And have it "Do Mapped Key" twice, once for each output.
Then have a toggle macro (two steps) one that enables the second output and one that disables it.
So you can spam the "spam key", and have it alternate outputs or just output the one key.
I did additional testing tonight using my 5x shaman setup. I wanted to do a more formal test of the /castsequence versus /cast for the Lava Burst proc.
In my setup, all shamans were not grouped with no buffs or totems deployed. Each shaman DPSed a training dummy for 5 minutes to get a nice solid average.
For the first test, I used Mercurio's elemental shaman dps 2 step macros, but I removed the totem drops and left only the Lightning Bolt, Flame Shock, Earth Shock, and Lava Burst.
In the second test, I used my single macro with the /cast Lava Burst instead of a cast sequence.
Overall, the DPS was about the same across all 5 shamans between the two macros. This is odd, since I was seeing delayed Lava Burst procs with the castsequence the other night. Perhaps the difference is due to latency? Tonight my latency is 187 ms, which is pretty good.
In short, I believe the /cast Lava Burst and /castsequence Lava Burst are equivalent.
I'll try more testing with Mercurio's macros that drops totems in between Lava Burst if that affects anything.
Thank you very much for this very interesting post, both the OP as well as all others contributing and feeding the discussion.
I have one question though, what is the difference (technically, in terms of performance, logic, etc...) between:
a) Having both keys in different steps;
b) Having both keys in the same step as additional actions?
Aren't they still being "spammed" the same way by the hotkey we chose?
Thanking you in advance and have a good day,
A.
Ok, I think I found out the source of the discrepancy.
I'm using Aragent's setup in Isboxer to test out these macro differences. I went to the original setup and found the culprit.
In Aragent's setup, he has a /cast Lightning Bolt at the end. Since there is no cool down for Lightning Bolt and since there is a /castsequence Lava Burst, Lava Burst, ... Lava Burst there is a race condition as to which one goes off first. From my testing, when Lava Burst is available it won't always go off immediately when a /cast Lightning Bolt is present.
Now, when I take this out and have either /cast Lava Burst or /castsequence Lava Burst, the procs go off as soon as they can.
If you spam, but the spam is two different steps, in theory it will alternate between them.
You should get a precise: 1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2... etc.
One of the macros might be stuck on something and unable to advance, but the other macro should fire off fine, and the stuck macro should run as soon as it can.
If you spam both keys together, in the long run they should fire approximately as often.
But you will reach streaks where the same key is pressed first consistently, meaning the other does not have an opportunity to fire.
In short, it is a less even distribution with a greater potential for streaks of one macro over the other; you could inadvertently be on a "stuck" stage with not much happening for several presses.
I did some additional testing of my 5x Shaman DPS macro.
With these, I was about to get and maintain 7K DPS on my main shaman, which is PvP specced with Full Wrathful gear and reforged crit to mastery.
Here is a link to my main
Step 1
Step 2 for Shaman #1Code:/castsequence reset=8 Flame Shock,Chain Lightning,Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt,Chain Lightning,Lightning Bolt,Earth Shock,Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt,Lightning Bolt
The main difference is I incorporated Chain Lightning into the standard rotation. It is spaced between 3 Lightning bolts apart because of the 3 second cool down. So even with max haste, it should still have enough time to come off cool down before the next one occurs. Also, the number of chain lightnings and lightning bolts are optimized to make full use of fulmination. On average, if should trigger earth shock with 7-9 orbs.Code:/castsequence reset=combat/8 Wind Shear, searing totem, lava burst, lava burst, lava burst, lava burst,Wind Shear, lava burst, lava burst, lava burst, lava burst
/cast elemental mastery
/use 13
/use 14
In step 2, this is mostly the same as Mercurio's macro. Searing Totem is cast at the start and is refreshed once every 60 seconds. Lava Burst has a 8 second cool down, thus 60/8 = 7.5, so we'll need 8 Lava Burst casts as filler.
I've also incorporated a staggered Wind Shear.
I have 5x Shamans and wind shear cool down is 6 seconds. So if each Shaman does Wind Shear in sequence, that is ~30 seconds between casts. 30 / 8 = 3.75. So Wind Shear is place once every 4 Lava Bursts. Each shaman has a slightly different proc macro where wind shear is staggered down the line. For example, here is my macro for Shaman #2
Step 2 for Shaman #2
Code:/castsequence reset=combat/8 searing totem,lava burst,Wind Shear, lava burst,lava burst,lava burst,lava burst, Wind Shear, lava burst,lava burst,lava burst
/cast elemental mastery
/use 13
/use 14
Is that 7k single target DPS, or 7k including hops to other target dummies?
I'm not sure what you mean by "set the ';' key in isboxer, so I'll give you two answers.
1) The second screenshot provided by Va1entines shows that the ';' is sent to all windows in the first step. This is actually not correct, it should send ';' to all windows in the 2nd step only - as I explained right after the screenshot. So that's how the ';' gets sent to all windows through ISBoxer.
2) Once the ';' is sent to all windows, you may be asking how it is associated with your Proc Macros. To do this in WoW (arguably the easiest way), you have to associate the ';' key to a certain action bar slot. I use Bartender4 (the add-on) which allows you to associate any key press to any action bar slot. I used it to associate ';' with the 4th box on the 9th action bar, then made sure all my toons put their Proc Macros in that slot.
Hope this makes it clear for you!
daanji,
Thanks for all the testing on the Ele Shaman macros. It is fun to see if we can make these class macros better.
It looks like you have added something interesting to the shaman macros for PvP (adding in Wind Shear), especially if you have staggered its use when you have multiple Ele Shaman. You have also substituted Chain Lightning into the rotation instead of Lightning Bolt. My understanding was that this used to lead to better single target DPS, but that about a year ago it was nerfed.
For PvE (my main purpose for these macros), I don't think I will add Wind Shear into the rotation and Chain Lightning doesn't ignore CCed targets, so I will leave the Ele Macros as they are here.
If there is a reason to change them for PvE that I missed, let me know.
Have a hunter mid 40's..should I switch over to surv or does anyone have a BM macro set?
I'd stick with BM for the leveling process.
I've basically got two macros which are used a ton.
#1 is:
#show Hunter's Mark
/petattack
/cast Hunter's Mark
#2 is:
#show
/Castsequence reset=combat Arcane Shot, Arcane Shot, Arcane Shot, Steady Shot, Steady Shot
/Cast [Target=PetTarget] Kill Command
/Cast Rapid Fire
/Cast Bestial Wrath
/Cast Kill Shot
/use 13
/use 14
If you're boxing five hunters, Serpent Sting won't be useful for leveling up mobs that frequently die to 5x Arcane Shot.
If you're solo, insert Serpent Sting before the first Arcane Shot.
Also Serpent Sting anything that will last a while; I've got it as a separate key that is very rarely pushed.
Still new to the software, was wondering if you guys had a Fury warrior macro set up, and is it possible to successfully do a range and a melee dual box?
Yes Nuson you can be successful with range and melee.
I have posted a Fury macro http://www.dual-boxing.com/showthrea...t=33080&page=7
I have also seen a couple others in the last day or so.
I'm lvl-ing my 80 holy pala and 80 Destro Lock in Cata. I'm curious what a good holy dps macro (if any) would look like.
This does look cool. Is there a way to achieve this without IS Boxer? I only have keyclone...
Put your primary DPS on key 1.
Put your proc macro on key 2.
Alternate between the two.
obvious i suppose ;-)
Cheers @Ualaa
Great macros and instruction, thanks! This boosted my shaman's DPS by alot since I was using a single castsequence macro. But alternating between 2 keys normally is quite annoying during an instance. Guess I should switch from hotkeynet to ISboxers to make it a bit easier for me.
Are there any people that switched from hotkeynet to ISboxers? And if so, is that much of a change?
