Hells bells, why stop at 36 then? Go to 100. $1500 per month is nothing, right? Set it up to do 5 per computer - only need 20 computers. So only $10000 worth of computers. 70 amps or so of power, or about $7 an hour. $3000 per month there. Plus the accounts...

Nevermind the fact that you would have 3 raids and nevermind the fact there is no practicality. Nevermind the fact that leveling up would be a pain or that you would have to automate EVERYTHING through macros, etc. And you can't automate everything. You would spend more time just rezzing yourself than anything else. Lets not get started on bandwidth issues (easily overcome though). And cooling.

But in wide scale PVP.... you would level everything. And still get a few picked off. Unless you ran into Prepared.. or another 5 boxer. Who could take out a good amount of your crew if they got a jump on you. Heck, what if somebody rolled a 40 box of mages just to AoE you down. It's not like you are swift and mobile with that many.

I have 5 boxed. I have 10 boxed. I have thought very seriously about 40 boxing. At the point we are talking about, the effort goes up to a ridiculous level and the rewards are about the same. I see little point in going much beyond where Prepared is. I could MAYBE see 40. MAYBE. But beyond that? Why?

But this bump to 36 is the most blatant e-peen waving match I have ever seen.

But it might be worth it if you could one shot buildings in Winterspring :)

All these comments remind me of a story.

Well I doubt I am going past 36 for sure. I dont have a way to add more then 6 computers total and 7 instances is going to be hard enough as it is.

No Im not playing EQ, but with the Econ crisis I have to spend more time on RL stuffs so I don't have any problems, but I am doing well there.

Ive moved to a quest model from a kill everything that moves so we will see how it goes, doing quests in Ghostland right now. Hopefully that will speed up my leveling. And as stated I have to build 4 more computers soon (ordering the parts in the next few days).

I think most people (including me) have no problem with Sam doing 26, 36 or 61 toons.. heck i'm kinda amazed at people who do so successfully, like prepared for example, or all the guys who 10 box instances.

What i do not like, and to what i react, is the infantile boasting of yet-to-accomplish grand achievements. you can't buy fame, you actually need to do something do deserve it.
i just wish i could have seen Sam's face when he read that Prepared was thinking of upgrading to 60 accounts. Reminds of of those little kids doing stupid things trying to look like the cool guys, and failing miserably. it's highly amusing.

Why are you doing it the difficult way again?
You shouldn't be spending so many hours on all this configuration. Why don't you spend some money on a NAS(Network Attached Storage) server and install WoW 1 time on this NAS. Then all clients load via a gigabit network connection from the shared NAS.

Then you can use a scripting language (or just a batch file like I do) to copy the account settings(lua files etc.) from 1 root account (that you decided) in the WTF folder to all the other WTF account folders.
Stuff like clicking the sound off is not a problem as those settings would be shared if you would go with the NAS setup.

This:
- Saves you a lot of time configuring addon settings
- Saves you a lot of time configuring WoW clients
- Saves you a lot of loading time(but that depends on your NAS speed of course)
- Makes it easy to backup all your clients at once
- Costs a bit, because you need a separate computer with a decent NAS (raid?) solution.... but any desktop PC with a decent network card, a gigabit switch and a good RAID setup(not that onboard motherboard sh*t) should do the trick.

The cool thing about the NAS is that you can attach *any* PC to run 1 or more clients from it... so if one of your machines break down, it is very easy to load some of those clients on the other machines (if their hardware can take it) without any additional installation required.

Well my reply to this thread got eaten by the traffic problems yesterday. Good luck to you Sam but I just don't see how it will be very enjoyable. There's so much to WoW other than just brute force killing stuff and not sure if you'll ever see it in that mode. Plus it takes a lot to just keep my 5 shaman stocked up with consumables, reagents, repaired, all that stuff, any more and it would just be irritating to me.

I do have batch program to copy files from one computer to the other 5. Unfortunatly I have 5 accounts on each of the other 5 ... Also just cloning the wtf folder still dosnt work if you have add ons, some key bindings and add on settings are not stored there. Also if you dont have the same screen resolutions layouts dont just simply scale if you set say plus 100 for a buff bar position and you just copy the files over to a screen that is smaller resolution it still uses the 100 offset and not a downscalled offset. I supposed I could have 26 account directories in the main computer and clone one account to the other 25 and then run out all 25 to each of the 5 computers.

Do you have a link to what is stored where. Are you saying that if you copy all the lau files in the entire WoW directory that you would then get all layout information for all add ons also? Where is the settings that you set on the blizzard "interface" menus located, like auto loot and help files and all that you set.

I clone my hard drives with acronics so I dont have OS problems anymore, get a few blue screens and just replace the whole drive.

If you want to "beat" prepared, you shoudl do the following:

Roll a class that is actualyl OP with 40 of them (Mages).

Roll 40 of them.

Don't talk about them until they are 70

Do something interesting other then just throwing money at a problem.

Actually learn the game you are trying to play before proclaiming any bit of supuriority.

40 Mages would be overkill. Plus squishy. I would do something like 8 shammys and 32 warlocks.

Massive AoE and healing. Toss in some priests if you really want.. but that would also come with 32 pets. That is a LOT of counterspells!

Heck, just sit around with your pets out and let the pets one shot people.

Honestly groups of 4 mages and a priest specced CoH would be good.

CoH through the dmg (which hits all raid targets now), and then if someone gets within aoe range, one arcane explosion will be around 30k dmg.

Then have each group have a targeting macro that targets a section of the alphabet, like group 1 targets a-g (/tar a /tar b /tar c). That way you never have all 35 dps targeting one target.

You should look at the warlock changes ;). Pet abilities changed.

Also warlock aoe would be teribad, its all targetted, either by a person (Seed), or ground targetd (rain of fire), or you hurt yourself (hellfire).

Mages are far superior, Arcane Explosion, Blast Wave, etc. Plus arcane barrage is really OP. (living bomb is fun too, and water eles would be raaaape).

Plus, the thought of hitting mirror image one 36 mages sounds naughty. no?

Went kind "on the cheap" for the 8200 motherboard and the 5600 duel cores (but as the socket is AM2plus 140 watt so I can upgrade later when prices drop) but going all the way for the 9600GT (with a slight OC) on all computers (waiting for 3 more to get to stock). Cant do SLI with these boards but they have the 1066 memeory buss to 8 G (Ill only have 4G though for now untill I move up from Win2000) so they are very upgradable.

No fans = hot processors. Until cooling becomes silent or not needed, you need to cool your GPUs. If the noise is an issue, relocate or extend the computers or enclose them in fiberglass/drywall/etc and make sure you vent or cool accordingly.

These video cards just dont require fans ... They have a huge heat sink on them with heat pipes.

Right now sandra reports all my temps (cpu main and aux) under 53 C. Not super, but high temps just shorten the life of your components and I upgrade before they fail anyway. And thats with ONLY the power supply fan and the CPU fan (my drives make more noise then the rest does lol).
