This statement applies to virtually all game communities where the median age is somewhere around 16. Thankfully the gamers that grew up in the 70's/80's continue to play, so that median age is slowly shifting older.. just not fast enough for most of us.
It's shifting age and also shifting gender....
Quoted from Game Development Essentials (2nd Ed) by Jeannie Novak (required text book for my Intro to Game and Simulation Devel Class):
The 2003 ESA poll found that adult women make up a larger percentage of players than boys age 6-17 -- dispelling the age-old stereotype that games are for boys. Females of all ages now make up almost 40% of the game-playing population.
Hot topic, are little boys/teens the problem? Is it as much a gender issue as an age one?
