yeah, bad news is you can't disassemble it and look for problems. Good news is you don't need to. :P
I'd recommend running down to a local hobby shop that sells RC trucks and planes and picking up a thermal temp gun. When I'm doing 70+ mph speed runs on my electric truck I have to constantly monitor the temps of the cars electric system. Should be able to pick one up for about $25. Would at least help you determine if its a faulty sensor if you are indeed running hot.

I also installed Avalanche, which gave the same readings and finally installed CoreTemp on the advice of a friend. That's quite neat actually - it puts the temperature readout on the LCD screen of my G15 (at last... something useful on there!!).
It shows the same temperatures, and identifies Tj.max as 100C as I recall.
So all three measuring tools show the same numbers. I've heard anecdotal evidence of "sticky" temperature sensors on these chips, but that's not very reassuring.
I ended up working late yesterday, so didn't get a chance to call support... tonight with a bit of luck!
I had the briefest of looks online for thermal temperature guns here in Germany (I'm all in favour of more toys!) but didn't find anything. I'll hand it off to Dell and see what interesting stories they can fob me off with.
any word on the new temp/replacement/service etc ^^ am curious to know what happened :)
