This is actually an interesting topic to me, because I believe it is a psychological issue. People who got ganked when leveling will gank others IMO. When talking about behavior, people are a product of their genetics and their environment. We can't measure pvp aggressiveness with genetics, so I think its all about what they experienced.
Your view is too simplistic. Getting ganked implies that some high level character took the trouble to go to a low level area purely with the motive to gank. Yes, there are exceptions, but this probably covers the majority of ganking situations. Most of the serial griefers get pleasure out of making other people's lives miserable. They derive their enjoyment from playing people, not from playing the game. They are the minority. They will always justify their behaviour with "it's just a game" etc. They are probably cowards as well and they can get away with being complete dickheads due to the anonimity provided through the internet. You will see the same people trolling message boards. All they are interested in is riling people up, the more upset they can make you the more satisfaction they get from it. I call them sadists and will go out of my way to return the favour although in most cases it is best just to ignore them.
I don't believe your experiences in game will influence your general behaviour. Most people level, deal with the gankings and move on. Few go back to low level areas purely to gank because they were ganked and fewer still will do it on a regular basis.

This is much like the fact that most sexual offenders were sexually abused as children.
Comparing sexual abuse to ganking is like comparing apples and the ex-planet Pluto. I'd like to know where you got your facts from though. The statement is also "most sexual offenders were sexually abused" so it does not say anything about most sexually abused children. For all we know 99% of sexually abused children does not turn into sexual offenders. Also, most sexual abuse occurs within the family which brings genetics into play. Be careful with the conclusions you draw from the statistics.
Just a FYI, I do know people that were sexually abused as children and I would be totally blown away if they are sex offenders. I don't think you ever get over the psychological damage and trauma but I find it really hard to believe it turns you into a child molester.
