Stacking possibly. However when there are multiple people in the raid with less gearscore and you kick someone out with a higher gearscore that's just carrying to me.

I installed GS for a quick minute to see how it worked, and yanked it soon afterward, it's a seriously "chatty" addon that's constantly polling players around you. No thanks.
I don't PuG - I started MBing specifically to not do that, so I laugh at the GS drama. The raiders and wanna-be raiders have been cockblocking new players from higher content since vanilla, it's nothing new. GS will be forgotten when Cata comes out, and people just want warm bodies in the initial rush to hit the new content, then it will be something new to cockblock the newbies and slower levelers.
The majority of people who play this game have severe personality disorders and massive amounts of hostility towards other people, and have zero social skills. Why else are they online 24/7 playing a game, instead of out there mingling?
I'm long out of college, I did the bar scene, i'm fine spending some of my spare time playing, but I do not get college kids living in wow - I had a BLAST in college, indulging in everything i could find, I could'nt imagine wasting all those opportunities over a video game, unless it got me laid. :)
Anyway, GS is just another chapter in the neverending passive-aggressive hostility that infects the online community called WoW. In BC it was requiring you'd cleared Kara to go to Kara, because it was - wait for it - "a badge run". In vanilla it was the ridiculous hoops you had to jump through to get into "elite" guilds. Now it's GS. Anything to make themselves feel better about themselves and the time they spend in the game, instead of something truly rewarding, I guess.
When I see stupidity in chat on my server, I just think of the average, overweight, red faced squeaky-voiced Blizzcon attendee behind the typing, and it puts it all in perspective for me. I just laugh. I play WoW to get away from the world, and relax, not let some pent up sexually frustrated teen make me feel bad because I don't measure up to some artificial standard they've made up to give themselves meaning and validation.
This rant brought to you by Diet Coke™.
The worst part about PuG raids? The wait to get them filled... You can be at 21/25 and as soon as someone gets invited, one person will leave. So frustrating.
That and when you finally get full and get to the stone to summon you find out that 2 people are afk and not coming back. Then people start quiting from the wait at the same speed it takes to get replacements. I mean who the hell joins a raid and has to go 20 minutes into it?
I cant blame 15 people with 5k gear scores if they don't wanna carry some fresh 80's with 2500 gear scores through ToC25 or if a guild is short one man for a hard mode attempt and doesn't want to hit up armory for every person responding in lfg.
I can also sympathize with everyone who doesn't wanna be reduced to a gear score number but since its become the craze to use GS to screen pugs, Ive had much better experiences over all in pugging 25 man content. Maybe I would feel differently if I tried raiding on a new team with a lesser GS.
All that said I didnt keep the add on installed myself, I generally leave pug recruiting to others and just enjoy playing with my friends and making new friends as we pug raid with our alts. I have enough addons cluttering up my system that I dont need another one.
Peace
the main thing about gearscore thats weird to me is that theres so many different ones. theres the addon then wow-heroes and be.imba are both different and im sure theres even more than that. as far as the 'gear score doesnt mean that the player is good' argument goes it is true to an extent, but if youre about to try a higher tier raid its nice to know that the tank that is trying to get in the group just straight up doesnt have the gear to do it no matter how good he is.
personally, though, i dont check gear score for anything but giving other guildies a hard time. we have fun with it just having an ongoing gear race. though i do know that as a holy pally some of the higher scored emblem gear will actually gimp me slightly.
thats why i take it with a grain of salt and just play with other nice people. i usually try and stay away from the raging nerds out there who smash their keyboard into their flatscreen cause we wiped on emalon once...
tl;dr if the guy gave you a hard time about your score then you dont want to be in his raid anyway cause he sucks.
I lead a lot of pug25s and love GearScore, but don't rely on it. In a matter of seconds, I can mouseover my raid frames and distinguish who needs further review. If someone is wearing greens or TBC epics, I can find out without armorying/inspecting every member of the raid. I'm not going to balk at 4200 vs 4400, or even <4k, but if I see a 2500 pop-up, expect I will inspect you.
In re to QQ: Don't try to run TOC25 if your wearing 5 pcs of T5 equivalent, I will catch you.
Use gearscore light, it can tell you the GS and not do all the "chatty" crap.
My main is only like 4.4k gs... but I can still bust a solid 4k sustained in ToC pushing almost 5k sometimes.
