I use the Nostromo N52 and I've bound 1 action to each main direction on the directional pad. Up is the Interact with target button, down is the backpedal button, left is the assist macro and right is my follow macro. This works for me in either melee or ranged situations as you always have your thumb resting on the D-pad. I quickly hit the assist and follow macros to make sure the slave is on target then when I'm ready to engage I'll hit the interact with target and quickly follow with the backpedal and the hunter will be facing the right direction. If the target moves, I just hit up and down quickly. simple enough for me.
With my current team of rogue/pally.. I'll stealth the rogue, backpedal the pally then when I engage with the rogue (cheap shot, etc) I hit the interact button for the pally so the pally comes running in and now both toons are in melee .. if the target moves or changes, a couple of quick hits on the Dpad and the pally is pointing in the right direction.

The only way to stop movement, is by using a movement key.
So hit W or S or one of the arrow keys.
I was doing the collect the fires quests with my team.
There was a flagged horde priest already there.
I was happy enough to gather the flame and not roast his ass there.
He decides to run into the midst of my now-flagged group and fear me.
I had dropped my first totems in the totem stomp macro.
So I had: Totem of Wrath, Tremor Totem, Mana Spring Totem and Healing Stream Totems down.
The Tremor pulsed about two seconds after the fear.
My slave shammies use target=targettarget, but my pally already had the priest targeted.
I clicked my assist macro (mouse thumb button) and my interact keybind (other mouse thumb button).
Then pressed my W key to break the movement.
Then it was a couple of seconds for 4x Flame Shock, 4x Lava Burst.
Interact works great with casters.
It turned my entire team towards my target.
