Food for thought: As far as I can tell the OP wasn't trying to overclock his processor. He was simply trying to see if his airflow was okay as he was having highish idle temperatures. He checked the HSF and reseated it, then the problems began.
Feel free to correct me.

That's correct Sajuuk, and hopefully it's just the motherboard or the cpu, and not both or some other issue.

oh my bad i misread the original post lol. anyways what tower, video card and mother board are you using out of curiosity, cause those could lead to your high cpu temp as well. a friend of mine from work bought the same computer that i was going to buy (spend 7 months on newegg and various benchmark sites trying to come up with a bang for buck computer) and the only differences between the 2 was i got 8 gigs of ram and a bigger cpu fan. before i went into catalyst and adjusted his fan speed his cpu was running at approx 45 celcius once i was done helping with that his processor idle temp when down to 36 celcius and his gpu(s) temps went down from 61 celcius to 41 celcius on both of them.
My temps: Idle CPU is 30 celcius and with 3 WoW's going it goes up to about 36 celcius
Video Card idle anywhere from 35 celcius all the way down to 31 celcious with the WoWs x3 going runs from 41 to 45 celcius.
Edited: to add my temps for temp comparison

At work, but...
Video Card: 8800 GTS
Case: Some Antec Case with what should be decent airflow
Heat Sink: Thermaltake V1
