you don't need ranged on the all pally team.
the ret pally has two really cool spells, hand of reckoning and repentance.
repentance is kind of like a rogue sap or a mage sheep. holds some targets for as long as 1 minute.
with 4 ret pally ( or 5 ) you can put to sleep almost all group sizes,
hand of reckoning is a single target taunt... so you then use hand of reckoning to wake them up one at a time.
Not running 5 pallys, since I don't have them...have 3 with a shaman and a moonkin, all level 41-43. Respecced the Pallys to Holy Shock and now moved into the ret tree.
Basically, I spam concencration, exorcism and Holy Shock at the enemy. They are second and third on my team (to my main pally) in damage, though, I may not be running the druid or shaman optimally. They are wearing al cloth and have more than enough mana to get through any fight. I feel like the global cooldown time is wasted since they aren't attacking and all their spells are instant cast, but they do much more burst damage.
Makes me wanna form 5 Prot Pallys since avenger's shield(Terrible CD) & hammer of righteousness acts like Chain Lightning :D
I tried theorycrafting it out myself a while ago. The conclusion that I came to was that you'd need to use consecrate or you'll have too much downtime which half defeats the purpose of going holy for dps as you can just go ret if you're in melee range. The problem is it doesn't take long until all of your abilities are on cooldown and thus you have downtime. Another minor problem is itemization, considering that you gain nothing from haste since everything you use is instant and the GCD reduction isn't going to matter since it doesn't reduce your cooldowns. Should work really well for questing though.
