Am I just done with MMO games?

Eve online had me for 3+ years :) Freeform, social, sprawling market system, competitive. Rewards thought, discourages or punishes lack thereof -- which was the hook for me. Start up an achura and fly around in a little missleboat for a while.

Run missions, look at the market see if playing it holds any charm for you. The endgame content is pretty fun, as it is largely focused on your skill and the skill of those you associate with versus those that you fight. A great player behind a 1 month old account can actually be very dangerous to even old accounts.

A small group in eve can make a large impact(ie change the political landscape), which was very rewarding to me. Burn eden was a perfect example of this -- a major force with ~20 players total. Smart tactics and good group comps make a huge difference. I always liked the idea that planning, contacts, and patience paid off. And that you could always walk away with something to learn from a loss -- always watch local, have a scout in the next systems, etc.

I second (third?) the recommendation of Eve Online - the learning curve is HUGE - but you can be successful no matter where you are along the curve.

It's been my standby game whenever I get bored with other MMO's for years.

I concur with Korruptor on Anarchy Online. Never multiboxed on it, but I was playing it up until WoW. Leveling is definitively not for the faint of heart (all 200 levels, lol), but it can be a fun game. And yes, it is quite complex, so you would need to give it a little time.

I'd advise AGAINST EVE Online, as it's quintessentially a stunningly dull game and also very expensive to play. You won't accomplish anything in the first 9 months of playing. The whole game is immensely PVP biased and its only possible to win PVP fights against people who started playing the game after you did (unless you're the sort of person who enjoys being in a guild - which as you're a multiboxer is unlikely...

The oft-quoted 'freeform' or 'sandbox' nature of EVE is a big fat lie, there's actually nothing to do in EVE thats fun.

1 - Korean MMOs would eat you alive.
2 - You're doing it wrong. Really, really wrong. I've five-boxed every class and I think the only ones that got even close to 24 hours played 1-60 were where I AFKed a whole bloody lot trying to learn macros or just doing other things while still logged in.

Corporations and alliances in eve don't really translate into wow guilds very well at all. Different beasts. People are much more important in the hyper-competitive enviornment in eve in order to get the edge.

My girlfriend was tackling for our corp in the first week(a critical role), and was a high-end specialist a few months after, running in t2 ecm ships. I had achura alts a couple of months old tearing people up. Player skill, planning and coordination shows a lot more.

It is definitely a sandbox, and not everyone knows what to do given an open environemnt, not guided by quests, clear progression paths, etc. Past the basics, the game is tweaked for and revolves around player interaction, if even indirectly. (to the point where they have an economist monitoring the open markets, aside from the combat/crafting tweaking in response to it)

If you thought LOTRO was slow leveling after 30, doesn't sound like you multiboxed it, or you were just in the wrong area. Granted, it slows down some, but picks up again after 40. I multiobx 3 hunters there all lvl 60s. Just started a 4th account, so will have a 4th hunter or Captain to pull around.

I think you should definitely stay away from Vanguard. If you think leveling is slow in LOTRO, you are really going to think leveling in VG doesn't exist. Even the tortoise will beat VG. It has to be the slowest leveling game I have ever played (except for Anarchy Online - which i never really figured out how to play - just couldn't getmyself into AO at all.

I dont want to turn this thread into a debate over the funness of Eve online lol but I have often seen people saying these sorts of things about not ever being able to compete against people who started before you.

Bottom line, ultimately the game is wide and not deep. My character is like 3 years old. You can bring your character to within, for example, 5-10% of my mining yield (my guy is mainly an industrialist) within a few months of playing. Now, my guy can mine and fight and produce stuff etc etc... the game is wide. You're only ever going to need to be setup for the ship youre flying, so it doesnt matter if the guy youre going to fight has been playing since release and can fly a carrier and a dreadnaught and a titan and a freighter and a and a and a... his skill advantage is only an advantage (once you get to a certain point) in long term engagements where he is more valuable to his group because he can field more roles. In a 1 on 1 fight, he doesnt have a huge advantage. Yes he will likely tank better and do more damage than you. He will likely have better mods on his ship because hes been around so long, etc etc. But people saying you cant ever compete against somebody playing longer than they have been is just ridiculous.

I do however agree that it can be a dull game =) If you dont get into the pvp side of it the PVE is very repetitive and the mining system is kind of broken (though I found it to be the most enjoyable part of the game).

I'm not helping with the derailment of the thread here, but the great thing about Eve is its so broad in it's spectrum. You dont really have to ever even leave dock. You can become a banker, you can become a drug dealer, you can become a pirate, a miner, a mogul, you can do delivery contracts, you can pretty much do whatever you want, and when you get bored with that, start training something else, change careers mid course.

1v1? Yeah you're gonna get slaughtered by those guys with 70 mil SP - Get yourself a good corporation and go do fleet ops!! Some of the most exciting online gaming I've ever had were 100v100 fleet ops.

I did play EVE for a while and quit after getting ganked at a stargate and losing a very expensive ship.
