Ahh ok well.. Sorry I can't help any further with the second copy issue. As for the FPS - ATI /AMD linux drivers as you know are awful. nVidia is not exactly amazing under Linux but should work well enough.
Since WINE is open source, there may be a way to recode it or apply a workaround. My area of expertise ends at boxing multiple clients on a single machine. I am sure I eventually will when 3d virtualization hits the scene but for the time being, I see absolutely no reason to do so. It relies too much on software and creates some other issues that I can avoid by going pure hardware.

What is the issue you have with wine and running two instances of wine? As far as I remember, I could not run apps with wine on two different displays (x displays that is). It might have been me that sucked at it, or it is a wine issue. If I remember correctly, I was using 0.9.27. Tell me more about your problem I will think about it ... as I would like to get a 2 box setup going with linux, hopefully on a single machine.
Cheers

Out of curiosity, I googled a bit. Turns out that you can use the WINEPREFIX environment variable to have independant wine instances (it is in the manpage). According to wine traffic #235 using that environment variable will allow you to have wine run on different displays, because they are truly different instances of the program. Let me know if that work: I am away from my gaming machine.
