Know this is an old thread, but there don't seem to be very many folks still playing eq1 in these forums. But I'm going back for a while. I miss the more challenging aspect of the game, as opposed to some of the more 'fisher-price'd leading by the hand you get from the Wow's & EQ2's of the gaming world.
First, let me say Praise Cazic!! for ISBoxer! What an awesome boxing tool... and I haven't even figured out how to use most of it yet. All I've worked out so far is the window management and kbd/mouse repeating, but even that is so huge it's like day & night from when I used to 4box with 4 computers & a kvm switch. Hoping to tinker around some this afternoon with more specialized control of specific chars with the key mapping. If anyone has some EQ1-specific examples of stuff they've done... I'd really LOVE to see them for some ideas.
This time around I'll be 6boxing. I've decided on:
SK - tanking, dps & fd
druid - heals, buffs, ports & dots
shammy - heals, buffs, debuffs, dots, haste/slow & decent pet
cleric - heals, buffs & res
mage - dps pet, damage shield
wiz - big bang boom
But I'm really thinking hard about dropping someone for a bard. Maybe the druid. Wiz can handle most teleports. Bard would add some more dps from themselves as well as up the dps & utility of the group. Probably a much better option for pulling with the bard too. Plus I guess there are still one or two things in the game you actually NEED lockpick for. And the melody command thing makes a bard much more boxable than it used to be. Seems like I'm talking myself into it.
Merc's add an ainteresting twist to things. I know mercs aren't allowed in raids, but I understand there are some 2 group things that they can be worked into. So I split me group up & hire some mercs... instant 12box. Been out of EQ1 for around 4 years now, so I have a lot to relearn... so the idea of starting 6 new chars from scratch really appeals to me.
So anyone still playing eq1 with some tricks & tips would be very helpful. Gonna go watch the youtube's for isboxer again... they're showing WoW, but it's a starting place.
