8 clients on one machine, possible ?

As I am considering the possibility of 10-boxing and I have to build a new machine anyhow...
It seems like it would be possible to run 8 instances of WoW on a quad-core box with 8GB RAM and either a top end video card or dual video cards (not SLI) and get decent performance. Maybe a Q9450 and a single or pair of 8800GT's, to run 8 accounts at minimal settings (800x600, max performance settings) would do it.
My backup machine will run 2 instances no problem so voila I'd be at 10 right there. :)

It's too bad the test realm is down right now or it would be easily possible to test - just log 4 accounts in to the normal realms and then again to the test realms!

Is anyone running a Q9450 that would be willing to try pinning 4 instances to 2 cores and tell me how the performance is?

Just make some trial accounts and see.

I have absolutely no problem running 5 accounts on a machine very similar to what you describe @ 60fps front and 4x 30fps background all 1680x1050 with high detail on the main and low detail on the others (exception terrain distance max).

which OS are you using?

I'm hotkeying this next paragraph, because it seems everyone has the same misconception:

"64bit, Vista, 8gb ram and WoW: Don't bother, World of Warcraft is a 32 bit application and runs on a 32 bit emulator in Vist64 called Windows on Windows (Yes WoW-on-WoW) and is still limited to the same restrictions you are accustomed to. That said, ram is cheap, other games are 64bit compatible, hopefully Warcraft will be one day, but don't expect ANY performance increases due to using more than 4gb ram."

Specific to this case, expect lack of ram to be the bottleneck.
