In Preparation for Nehalem
Soo.. a little while ago I made a little post regarding a new PC I'd be making. I did too much research and was considering leaving the PC upgrade until Nehalem comes out in Q4 2008 - Q1 2009, but unfortunately I can't wait till then to upgrade my PC.. as to be quite frank.. it's a pile of rubbish (I can maybe sell the spare parts for a total of £50 :S or I'll try and leech some of the things for my new system)
anyways, long story short I've made two separate shopping lists
1st comes the list of extremely shweet items I want to buy in preparation for the eventual upgrade to Nehalem :)
Antec Performance P182 Miditower, Gun Metal Black Aluminum
Thermalright IFX-14 (I love this thing too much :P although I doubt It will work on Nehalem CPUs)
2xScythe S-FLEX 1600RPM Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan
LG W2242S PC Monitor (check the contrast on this baby ^^)
Thermaltake ToughPower 850W Modular Power Supply
and Windows Vista HomePrem 64-bit
Subtotal: £485.70
I know.. rather pricey for a Shell!! then again those have been around for a while, are great products and should hold their own for 4+ years :) - maybe not the operating system tho :P
Now I basically chose the cheapest things I could find that were acceptable for what I need to do atm. a heck of a lot of 3D Modeling and rendering and ofc :) 5xWoW
It beats my current setup by miles tho :)
ASUS P5B-VM SE (micro ATX >.<)
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (probably the only worthy item here :P)
4x Micron Rendition 1GB DDR2 6400 800MHz
Asus 8800GS 384MB DDR3 (bah cheap one just got sold off!! grrr)
Subtotal for budget stuff: £293.40
Total: £779.10
I guess the Idea of this setup was to buy some quality products that would last me a long long time, so I would only ever have to exchange the core components and save me a lot of cash in future
I'd love to hear any suggestions or recommendations if you have any :)
