Sorry ahead of time if I misunderstand the question :/
In my trinity teams I usually have it set so every time I switch to a new character that character is made the new master & party leader. My assists go off of whoever is master/leader.
I also have it so whenever I switch a character CTM is turned ON for the tank, but then also turned OFF for the party leader. This makes sure that if I'm driving from my healer, which in most cases I am, my tank will go and attack the unit. But for those instances I am driving with the tank CTM will be shut off as it's pretty annoying to move around with CTM ON.
For following,
Overworld: I usually lead 99% of the time with healer and have Strobe turned on. I'll turn off strobe when fighting something that takes more than a couple seconds as I don't like how the tank will run in circles with strobe on.
Instances: I still lead with the healer unless some type of mechanic requires me to lead with the tank. I don't use strobe unless needed. I also keep additional movement keys for the group - the tank. Such as Shift+W(group forward), Shift+A(group Left) etc...
I also have seperate ATG such as Follower(all guys), Combat(all guys), Tank(tank), Healer(healer), Ranged(healer+dps), Dps(dps)
