M+ Healing Setup

Hello Everyone,

After recently getting back into WoW after being on break since the start of BFA, I wanted to try and see how far I could push M+ with multiboxing. Since M+ these days all revolve around raider io scores (Even getting into a +2 was mindblowingly hard), I decided that getting back into multiboxing might add a more game oriented challenge.

Now I did notice that the dungeons this expansion are quite a lot more difficult then previous expansions, causing me to rethink the whole heal from your driving character and instead go for a rotation based healer and I am curious how you guys have your healers setup.

Currently running Vengeance DH, Resto Druid, 3x BM hunter.

Healing is done with a click bar where, based on what button it clicked, a certain rotation will be used on either that character or AOE. Most problems I have is getting an aoe rotation going. On a normal Druid you would normally Wild Growth followed by rejuvenations and Effloresence but I am having a hard time getting the configuration to rotate your party for rejuvenates.

Anyhow, I will figure it out but I am curious to hear what peoples setup looks like and why they prefer this setup.

I have a focus macro set to every team member and my heals are all /cast [@focus] heal.

So if char 2, needs some healing I hit my 2 key and start spamming my heals while also spamming my dps rotation.
This gets complicated though when you need to heal something outside of your team but for the basics this has worked for me, although it's not as clean as click healing. Or maybe it is, but I see the benefits of both.

I always refer to healing as using two different possible playstyles: active and passive.

Passive - you setup a passive rotation that keeps your group topped off. Sometimes you may deviate from that and intervene from that process, but for the most part, your healer is going through a set rotation. I would consider Ellay's setup above as passive, even though he is occasionally changing focus and having to make active decisions whenever it needs to happen. In reality, it's probably more of a hybrid, but from a setup, configuration, and playstyle perspective, I consider it passive, since there's less spell selection, and a rotation is being followed. Shamans and Monks are probably best played with this setup.

Active - Your healer only heals whenever you tell it to; you determine each spell cast and when its done. This is more akin to clique style healing although you definitely could use keybinds and focus targeting. It plays well for some classes (Paladin), and terribly for others (Druid).

I, myself, prefer an active healing style. I have clickbars and my spells are macro'd in ISBOXER using mouseover casts. It feels more natural to me and it feels more like I'm actually controlling the healer rather than intelligently designing my way around playing a healer. That being said, as someone who has pulled a resto druid into +5s, it's nearly unplayable to heal as a druid in that way when a lot of damage is going out, unless you have some seriously amazing multitasking skills. Unfortunately as a resto druid if you get behind it's incredibly hard to catch up without burning cooldowns, and you almost need to have hots rolling 24/7.

In talking to other multiboxers playing at a mythic+ level, for druids, they use a set passive rotation. They roll hots across the team, Wild Growth and Efflo in the rotation as well, keep lifebloom on the tank, etc. I've seen some guys have a 12 step function in isboxer where it quite literally does all of these in one motion with one key. Not for me, but if I'm being realistic, it's probably the best way to use a resto druid and I probably wouldn't play one without it.

I do a hybrid. I have 3 main DPS keys, and all the DPS and tanks have the same GSE macro on all 3 keys. The healer has three options, one key is for DPS, another for passive heals, and the third does nothing, and I utilize click healing through clique, to a Grid2 window, with a repeater region overlay, so I can heal from any screen.

It needs work, as I'm often overhealing and running OOM quickly, but it's a starting point.

@Ellay : would this not cause interference with either of your rotations? Let's pick druid for example, if your dps rotation is doing solar wrath and you click to start healing but he still spams the dps keys, you have no control on whether his next spell is a heal or a dps spell? Don't you run into problems where you need a heal but it just never happens?

As to Zok's comment, you are really making me rethink the whole druid healer thing. Reason I chose him was because it is my main character and has the highest ilvl but I may need to rethink this in favor of a other class untill I can fine tune my entire setup.

i fight my own team to heal myself, crazy as it is I value DPS overall everything, but I have a fix for it!
The same key I use to Heal also disables the DPS rotation for just the healer for 1 second.

This is also the key ingredient on how you would get Druid to work. I messed with the rotation and got it to work but I love DPS so my druid team is a tank and 4 boomkin.
On druid you have your main rotation that includes efflo every 30 seconds, cenarion shield etc. whatever you want to always be up.
Through my focus macro setup you can use that same hotkey to focus that character to start a new rotation.
Example:
character 2 is at 60% hp and needs a heal, not emergency heal but just a heal.
press the 2 key. it switches your focus to char 2, disables the dps key and also enables a new key that disables after 5~ seconds, then switches back to DPS that has the following cast sequence. Regrowth, Rejuv, Rejuv.
You’ve now tripled Hotted that character, they’ll be topped off in a bit and have coverage for another 5-10 seconds, and your back in action with having only had to press 1 button outside of your spam rotation.

This method will allow you to effectively heal without running oom. I think of it as gear shifting and use it quite a bit to heal passively so I can focus more on mechanics.

So we're back to you needing to make an Idiot's Guide video. Independently, I understand how to do all of that but putting it together is .. what? lol

Understanding and being able to implement are typically two very different things when it comes to setups. I often struggle with the latter.

So I do it a little bit more complicated but it kinda works, and its like this
I have 3 main kyebinds on every single character, where 1 is single target dps, 2 is aoe dps and 3 is single target dps again. This is because on the healer, 3 is full healing rotation mode, and this is all cast on mouse over. I then use a repeater from all my windows to my healer, and then just procede to do the healing rotation while everyone is still doing single target rotation.
Why complicated? well for one its mouse over, so if I move the mouse out of the frame, because lets say I have to kite, thats it for the healing. Also, either you set a different keybind to heal outside ofcombat, or get ready to pull a bunch of stuff.
If I had to redo everything right now (wich I may) i would go to something similar to Ellay setup, first cause you avoid having to do mouseover all the time, and second cause the dude is a legend and he surely knows what hes doing.
