Using Midi with HotKeyNet?

This is a strange one but I need to output midi notes from Hotkeynet. I have a midi keyboard that I'm using for a project, but need hotkeynet to activate keys whenever I do certain things (like when my mouse clicks in an area on screen, it plays C#)

I hoped I could plug it in and just assign a new key to every note on the piano, but HKN doesn't seem to recognize it and nothing comes up in the "last key pressed" when I press a note, even when I see it activating in my other software. Is there a way to reassign the keyboard as a different input device on windows 10, or a list of midi notes I can just write into HKN? This program is surprisingly versatile, I feel like I'm missing an idea or something obvious to make this work:confused:
