Lag problem

Hello,
I'm trying to multibox 5 instances on WOW but I am having FPS problems. (It frequently drops to 15-20 FPS. There is also often a few seconds of delay between my main and the other accounts).
I noticed that my CPU is running at 100% of its capacity when I play. I am suspecting it's the problem. I just want to make sure it is the case before purchasing anything. I am a beginner and I am not sure what's the requirements for running 5 accounts at once.

Here my setup :

Win10
Z390 Gaming X x64
intel Core i5-9600k @ 3.70 GHz
32GB RAM
GeForce RTX 2070
Isboxer
Screen resolution 4k
Target FPS : 60 FPS main, 30 FPS other 4 accounts
Graphics currently turned to the minimum.

Reducing the resolution off all your clients should help with your performance.

^^^^ I too suspect that the issue is probably that the GPU is rather busy with 5 * 4K (or close to) games running, which in turn is making the CPU rather busy as it deals with I/O and swapping data in and out.


Monitoring of all hardware using something other than Task Manager may show this up.
Also, make sure the Anti Aliasing is not enabled, as this will be a big hog.

I tried to lower the resolution.The only problem is that I use the accounts for farming. I need to keep environment detail and view distance high to be able to see far while flying, but it causes lag. If I do reduce those settings, it seems to work fine. I'll try to play around to find a middle ground. Thank you for your answers!
I was wondering, if I want to increase the resolution/graphics, I would need to upgrade the GPU ?

If you plan to farm ore/herbs, you can install the addons gathermate and routes, then just follow the onscreen overlay to where they can potensially spawn. If there is one up, it will show clear as day onscreen. Dont need long viewdistance ingame.

You can also customize the routes, if the suggested ones have too many twist and turns.

Just to be clear, video settings do not affect the draw distance of players, NPCs, or anything else you can interact with. If you're using the lowest possible view distance, then it may be difficult to see the node from the absolute furthest distance, but it does not affect the "radar" on your minimap.

Oh, I didn't know. Thanks for telling me. I'll lower the view distance a bit and try the radar and routes.



I made some tests with Open Hardware Monitor.

The CPU is running at 90% in 1080 with recommended settings (7). I can't even open the .exe if I'm trying this with 4k graphics, but that isn't too bad. The GPU core is at 45%. Is the RAM the load memory ? It's at 81%.

I tried multiple settings out of curiosity, and it seems that even with 1080 resolution, graphics set to 1, and some sort of view distance, I am still getting some lag. It isn't too bad though, the game is now much more playable.

Ideally, I'd love to play with better graphics though. I'm currently playing with graphics set to 1080 resolution, quality to 1 and view distance to 4 on main, view distance on 1 for the alts.

Are you using a slot swap macro to dynamically adjust your graphics settings? Most of the notes in this thread should work the same in classic (I've not had to modify mine that I recall).

No idea which motherboard revision you have, but if you are able to, and your motherboard supports it, get a 9900k cpu and atleast a 2 x 140 mm aio or even a 3 x 120 mm aio cooler and let that thing run at around 5ghz. Then it will be goodness fps.

Alternativly, if you ever want to sell your current motherboard and cpu = get something like a amd 3900x atleast. With 2 core+2threads per game and leftover unassigned for the OS = very nice. Im personally running multiple 5mans, each pc (runs a 5man) with a 3900x, 32gb ram, 500gb nvme m.2, 2gb/sec and a 6gb vram gpu (get a 8gb one if you want increased settings with longer futureproofing). If you want to play main game at much higher settings, get the 3950x with 16 cores/32threads. Then assign 4 cores/4threads to your main game.

*Your current cpu is good to run 3 games at decent fps, not more tbh. Alternativly, if you want to venture into running 2 pcs, use this 6core to play your main game in max settings, while the others run on pc nr 2.

I should mention that you cant switch a game on pc nr 2 to your main screen on pc nr 1. Correct me if im wrong...
So this is why each of my pc/5man has 2 monitors, vertically stacked, main on bottom, 4 slaves on top monitor, so i can play / level etc that 5man seperatly, as needed. If you find it playable to run all on 1 monitor or you have a bigger monitor, which you run all 4 on, thats ofc also possible. Your choice.

I've noticed that when I swap windows, I get a fps drop for a few seconds, I've tried selecting different CPU settings but they all do the same thing regardless. I have an i5-8400 processor and a 1080 FTW for my graphics card. Shouldn't I be able to run 5 instances at level 3 detail settings without the lag when switching screens? Or is my processor what's holding me back?
