Need tips on actual in instance mechanics/pulling strategies

Now that we've beaten all the leveling and comp questions to death, let's talk about in dungeon strategies.

I saw a video of a Paladin tank, with a healer and 3 Mages just like my group go through Stockades. On his pull he would run through a group with all his characters on follow, only attacking with the Paladin tank. He then bubbled, had his healer drop follow a few steps behind him and the Mages, perfectly placed to start spamming heals. The mages followed him a few steps in front of the healer, while he auto attack rounded up the last of the mobs, while still bubbled. He then casted Consecration while the Mages spammed Arcane Explosion, and aoe'd the whole pack down while the healer was in the back hardcasting heals on to him.

My question is how can I drop follow on only one character leaving him in the perfect spot to cast heals, away from any threat, while having the rest of the team still following? Can I macro it into one button, say a /stopfollow cast Flash Heal macro? Or do I have to do it as 2 separate actions?

My next question is how do you keep the mobs attacking you during a BoP or Bubble? As soon as I do it the mobs run off attacking the next closest thing, usually my healer.

I'm having a blast in dungeons, but I just want work on my mechanics. Theres so much room for improvement.

Are you sure the Paladin actually bubbled or did he get a shield from the Priest (or both)?

You can setup Action Target Groups and just send movement keys to those folk and they should stop following. I haven't tested this but, if for some reason your tank moves out of range of your healer, I assume you healer will move via IWT to get into range of the tank to heal (something to test/confirm).

You could for example have asdf for moving your main with follow but setup the arrow keys to go the action target group (or any other key or use a modifier like shift-asdf) and then do clickhealing like in the video from dalo.

If i shield my paly when he is already in combat, the aggro goes to my priest. So i usually shield just before i enter combat. Then i would run with the whole team with the paly leading, collect as many mobs as i can. The shield usually runs out and retribution aura holds the aggro. I then drop consecration and my 3 mages would spam AE. The priest gets no aggro and just cast flash heals. Then i break follow and let my team drink and use pally to loot. By the time i finish looting, their mana is full and im ready to pull the next pack of mobs.

This sounds like a great way to do things.

What's the dps like of Pallys for classic?

Pala dps in classic is like being slapped with a wet fish... it stings, and given enough time and swings it could kill you, but you’ll probably have wandered off through boredom long before that happens.

I dont rely on pala dps, which is bad. He is purely a tank to absorb as much damage as possible while the mages do the actual dps:)

And in regards to paladin dps, I find that my paladin does pretty good dps. At level 22, I can white hit for about 110, with Seal of Rightousness up, and with Smites Hammer equipped.

I haven't tested popping bubble to see whether all mobs switch off of the bubbled character to the rest of the party. If that is indeed what is happening to you I suspect that is not what is happening to him as he appears to be leaving his party way back and is only bubbling during the initial pull so he can gather up more mobs while out of range and/or LoS from his healer. You may also want to test with both 'Blessing of Protection' versus 'Divine Protection' as they are similar but different and could have different results. You can see that in regular pulls he has his team follow but at least in this bubble pull they do NOT follow:

In addition using movement keys with action target groups for a sub-set of your team you could also use action target groups to only have your DPS auto-follow to move up (keeping the Healer back). I suspect that is what he is doing to move his Mages up to AoE once his bubble is off and he has laid down his consecration. Alternatively he could have issued an all follow command to the entire team but had something like his back arrow set to make the healer backup and just tapping that would break follow on the priest leaving him where he is yet letting the mages move up...

There is no "/stopfollow" command—you'd have to set up a separate key specifically for breaking follow on whichever characters that you choose.

As has been already mentioned, it looks like they're bubbling when no other character is doing anything. If no one else is attacking or healing, then everyone else has zero threat, the enemies aren't going to chase after another character who isn't a threat.
