Mixed DD - Teams

Good day,

I'm quite new to multiboxing but already run mixed comps years ago.
Recently I've rediscovered it and would love to get started in BFA again.

After reading a lot of topics and class information I could find, I'm still unsure which team I should run.
Today it seems everyone shifted towards full lock / hunter and I'd like to know why beside the obvious "pet as a tank".

So... there is three things I'd love to hear your thoughts about.

- Full Druid (Can also fullfill all roles if I decide to go trinity later on?)
- 2 Hunter, 3 Lock - Team, as they might support each other well.

Or... just for the lulz. Directly start with a trinity team again. But I'm unsure about the best classes to pick here.

Resto druid isn't as good as it used to be. It lost Healing touch which acted as a nice filler spell in macros. Just means that using it for multiboxing will need more micromanagement than say a shaman or disc priest.

All dps groups cannot use the dungeon finder but can walk in the door of an instances.

Paladin tank group is still viable I believe, have not started to level mine just yet.

I run trinity teams. 120 is dk.sh.dr.hu.wk and now leveling wr.pr.dr.hu.hu

Just doing normals and islands at the moment.
boomkin and BM are strong. warlock might get replaced. resto shaman is working well.

For a trinity team, I think the choice of tank is the least important. All of them have advantages, all of them have disadvantages, all of them do now require healing, there isn't one that's particularly hard to use, you can make anything work. I've run two teams through the Mythic +0 dungeons, one with a blood dk, one with a prot paladin and I think the blood dk has a slight edge, but I don't think there's a big choice here.

For DPS, I'm a huge advocate of BM Hunters. If you are intending to run Mythic+ keys, there will come a stage where you will have to execute mechanics flawlessly. 90% of the boss mechanics revolve around movement and positioning; certainly the big "gatekeeper" bosses that will stop a multiboxer in his/her tracks are issues with movement. Having 100% mobility, and even a big fraction of their damage available when they aren't even facing the right way (happens!) is going to mean that BM Hunters are always going to be a strong DPS pick as it makes them easier to handle managing these mechanics. The spirit beast is a gift, too. Their spirit mend ability casts intelligently on low HP party members and heals for way more than it did in legion, which is exceptionally helpful.

For healer, I think there's a very important decision to be made, and I think its something that people are going to disagree on. There are arguments to be made for all of them. Even though I was initially cool on Resto Druids when I saw the changes, I still think they are our best healer. Some assembly is definitely required to make them work, but the mobility they provide can't be found elsewhere. In particular, I've found exceptional results using the Autumn Leaves azerite trait that simplifies their rotational demands significantly.

If you are looking for something a little easier to run than a Resto Druid, my advice would be a Mistweaver. Mistweavers can be run to good degree of efficiency with a GSE macro, have good mobility, and have the invaluable Renewing Mists/Vivify combo. Renewing Mist automatically moves from uninjured characters to injured players and, new to this expansion, when you try to cast it on a target that already has it on, it will automatically transfer to an injured target (if available). Vivify now "cleave" heals all targets that have renewing mist on them. This helps remove some of the decision making process from you: spamming renewing mist and vivify will always do effective healing. MW Monks are effectively the last bastion of the old "smart" healing.

MWeavers also have the Mystic Touch effect, which increases all Physical damage to targets by 5%. BM hunters got changed to be 100% physical damage now, rather than a Nature/Physical hybrid, so that's a nice little synergy not to be sniffed at.

I would not be surprised if other people step forward and say they have seen good results with other classes, but I feel being able to be mobile and still be effective is an even more important trait in this expansion that it was in Legion, so the healers that can do that are going to be my picks.

I've been running a priest and it has been "doable", but there are some fights that are pretty rough.
Monk has been pretty solid.
I have messed with Holy Pal + 4DK instead of Prot + 4DK ... DKs are still undergeared, but it's doable so far.
Druid multi-box healers when setup right are a massive difference, their mobility is too good.

Right now my trinity comp that I would recommend to people trying to find a group:
DK/DRU/BMx3 run as many undead toons as possible for the fear break :P I've been using trolls for the haste until late.

2nd choice for Tank is Paladin
2nd choice for Healer is Monk
2nd choice for DPS is Warlocks

It also appears trinity is pretty important in this expansion as you need dispels for a few fights to make it clean and having a tank position the boss is also needed.
I have a 5x Druid (1 Guard/4 Balance) combo at 120 and I'm not overly happy with Balance dps, it is not mobile friendly at all (trying to find a way to macro Moonfire/Sunfire to spam cast if your moving, if anyone knows how?) Otherwise stick with rotation, and their DPS takes a ramp up time. Druid Tank/heals are fine if you go that route but in our situation not doing DPS while having to dodge mechanics is rough.
I also just got a Sham/4x Hunter (favorite from Legion) team to 120 and it's much easier to do mechanics on, the pets appear to be a bit weaker though than their Legion counterparts after the changes in terms of survivability.

In the grand scheme of things with my 120's, I could easily convert this to a Druid tank / 3BM / Druid or Shaman healer and focus on that trinity layout as well, but I would like either of my combo's to succeed as it's nice having different flavors.

The fact that we are seeing mix and match teams is amazing and most likely the reason because class halls have been removed.

I also did a test on my teams with the exact same ilvl and fresh 120 in Freehold dungeon.
These were the kill times:
1st Boss - Hunter team ( 54 seconds) vs Druid team (1 min 3 sec)
2nd Boss - H ( 1 min 14 sec) vs D (1 min 6 sec)
3rd Boss - H (55 sec) vs D (1 min 39 sec) this is the mobility issue, having to run around dodging a shark.
4th Boss - H (1 minute) vs D (1 min 10 sec)
