[Dual-Boxing] I'd like to use Dual-Boxing and RAF to powerlevel. I'm not sure where to start.

Hey there everyone, I recently just picked up a Battle Chest (along with MoP) for a second WoW account that I'd like to use for Dual-Boxing. The reason for this is because I am very excited for WoD, and I want to have quite a few alts at level cap, mainly for Professions. However, as a full time student I don't have all the time in the world to level 3-5 characters by themselves, so I thought I would quicken the process with Dual-Boxing.

I've known about the process for awhile, but I've never known where to start. I've tried reading the guide, but I can't really find much help for someone who will be JUST Dual-Boxing.

And, since I figured it'd be an easier process, I'd like to just level the same class with the same specs and talents on both accounts at the same time. I feel like this way will make it easier to deal with rotations, spells, macros, etc. So I plan on Hunter/Hunter, Druid/Druid, Mage/Mage, and either a Monk or Warlock. After getting the characters to the max level on the ALT account, I probably wouldn't be using it ever again. In fact, after the second account is used up, it'll never be touched again, most likely. I'm just using it for the RAF bonuses.

What would you recommend for me to get started on dual-boxing? I'd really love to start to level my alts up to a higher level!

There's no difference between playing 2 characters and playing dozens of characters. The same steps are taken to set up any configuration. You need a key broadcaster, you need to set up that broadcaster, you need to set up macros for inviting, following, interacting with NPCs and combat.

If you want the quickest setup, then probably ISBoxer. You will also probably want Jamba to deal with turning in quests. There are guides for both in the newbie's threads.

I've been looking around and I'm having trouble setting up with just two accounts.

I'm using both on the same computer. I'm trying to find a guide that will offer the same thing as ISBoxer, but free. I don't have the money to pay for that software.

There is no program that is the same as ISBoxer that is free. Your free options are scripting based and require you to code. The various multiboxing programs are all broken down by difficulty, usage and price in the second post of the Newbie's Guide.

I would take a look at your longer term goals.



If you're interested in Recruit a Friend, purely to level one or more additional accounts to higher level (or possibly several character combinations, on those accounts), but once you're there you'll basically never play more than one toon at a time...
Then a simple boxing solution might be better.

Hot Key Net is free, but it is script based.
Not sure how much scripting you would like to learn.
The basic script, which most people then adapt to their needs, might suffice.

The same is true for Auto Hot Key.
Although there aren't as many AHK users here, as there are HKN users.

Keyclone is a decent choice for keyboard broadcasting.
It isn't as powerful of a program, as some of the others.
If you want one character to do something, but not others... you need the others to have nothing on that keybinding.
Still, it gets the job done easily.
This is $20 once, and lasts forever (transferable to any future PC you upgrade to).

I'd recommend taking a look at IS Boxer.
Lax will give you a free trial, and the support level rocks.
This is a subscription level boxing option; but you can pick it up for a quarter (3 months), if the trial impresses you.



If you'll want to play multiple accounts, at maximum level...

It doesn't take that much more effort, to level 5 characters than it does to level 2 characters.
So maybe you decide on going 2, 3, 4, or 5.
Kill quests are the same, kill the mobs once and they all get credit.
Collection quests can be the same or progressively worse; many of these, everyone can loot their piece... but some force you to collect 'x' pieces on every toon.
The process of setting up a 2-box or a 5-box is essentially the same for time invested and complexity.

2-boxing is arguably the worst.
In that you suffer from lack of independent action -- you cannot have both of your characters doing two completely unrelated things at the same time (as two individual players could).
Meanwhile a 2-box doesn't have the firepower to outright kill something on a single nuke (x2), but that single nuke (x5) might take the target from 100% to 0%.

5-boxing is a full group.
If you include a Tank capable toon, and a different Healer capable toon, you have the option for Dungeon Finder, which is nice.

3-boxing is in between.
You might have the DPS to blow stuff up quickly... starting to gain more from the boxing advantage of focus fire than you're losing to the boxing disadvantage of lack of individual action.

Another consideration is time.
If you're lacking in time, and your schedule is kind of random... being your own group (or most of your own group) allows for self-reliance... you're ready as soon as you log on.
If the dungeon has six bosses, and after killing one of them has you saved to it, others will be pissed if you need to drop out; if you're the entire group, you can play as much or as little as you'd like and no one is going to be upset with you.

I jumped in and did 5 right off the bat you learn a lot by doing this. I previously did 2, years ago.... I also used to multi in EQ back when innerspace was brand new...

1x Paladin = I love them as face roll tanks, I have a DK at 90 ready to go if needed...
3x Hunter = easy DPS can macro it with ease, went BM because I don't want to have to watch for lock and load because it would be random on toons... Can use mages, locks what ever.
1x Priest = Healer, could do any healer here I went priest to stay with blood elf theme.

I like steady state predictable DPS, not waiting for something to proc....

I would suggest starting from level 1 and by the time you get to level 25 your doing Video FX and will have all you macros setup. Level 1 - 25 a 5 man team can roll through so not much danger in death. I only died one time because I didn't know the boss encounter and stood right in the aoe... Plus I didn't have good healing setup, was just leeroying the paladin in. The instances at these levels are not to bad either. can use dungeon finder with your team and teleport to each instance.
