All MoP heroics cleared with 5x ele shamans
Been taking a break from progress raiding till the next patch for a while now, and figured to get an old 5x ele shaman team going again. They are all around 510 ilvl. Wanted to see how many of the hc's I could clear with this team since ele shamans have in my opinion an incredible toolkit now (I managed to solo LK heroic 25m on my main heroic raid geared shaman last week for example).
- I typically made use of conductivity (this talent is just insane for boxing ele shamans) and Primal Elementalist.
- For some bosses I actually used a 'trick'. It requires a 2nd weapon and a resto off spec. Spec resto, equip your 2nd weapon with earthliving weapon. Switch back to ele and imbue the weapon with the regular flametongue. It requires you to take the unleash fury talent. If you need extra spot heals besides conductivity/healing stream totem, you basically swap weapons and unleash elements right after a lava burst (for guaranteed clearcasting).
- Your next healing surge will now benefit from earthliving and from clearcasting, for some crazy heals. And it can trigger the earthliving effect on that player (asked a dev if this was a glitch a long time ago, and the reply was nope since it's only useful in a very few amount of scenarios and it takes 3 globals).
- Earth elemental with the primal elementalist talent is just sick for certain bosses. You have an extra personal 40% dmg cd (10sec) with harden skin and reinforce allows you to take 20% less damage on top of that. And the earth ele has a taunt. It took a bit of experimenting to get comfortable with my earth ele round robin setup, but in the end it wasn't too bad.
Gate of the setting sun:
1st boss I would just stand in a corner and melt him down with ascendance with ancestral guidance up on all 5.
the boss upstairs is nothing, spirit walkers grace and he is dead
the boss that spawns all the adds is where I use lust + pop everything, he dies in under 10s.
last boss is piece of cake
Mogu'shan palace:
on the first boss I lust on the shockwave guy, I save an earth elemental for every boss and just use conductivity on 4 and 1 toon is specced into AG (for when I use ascendance, since conductivity doesn't heal from lava burst)
the 2nd boss is just 1 big ascendance burn with all cd's up and lust (5x earth ele at the start)
last boss: i pull him all the way back to the entrance of the room (with swg+ascendance while running back, basically I position my guys to the side of the room and then mouse broadcast strafe right to get back), and conductivity heals through all his cone damage
scarlet halls:
2nd boss I start up on top, when he comes to me i jump down, when he gets back I pop earth ele to keep the boss down and I make my way up again, usually he dies before he strats his spinning gimmick
1st and 3rd boss are just burn fiestas
scarlet monastery:
nothing to 1st boss, 2nd boss is a matter of moving out of his fire aoe fast enough and on last boss I pop my earth elementals as I kill the chick before she puts me a sleep
scholomance: all really straigh forward burn bosses, the only annoying thing is the 2nd where you have to kill the illusions and you can't chain lightning them down, the bosses die so fast with 5x ele that all mechanics are trivial

1st boss = conductivity shines here probably the most ... just keep healing rain down on cd and it turns into a tank and spank fight, no moving needed, no spreading needed, I use ascendance on the whatever it is in the air when the 1st boss takes a nap
2nd boss = the event prior to the boss is just a matter of positioning your toons in a corner, and I use earth elemental for his fist of fury attacks (bad idea to stack up everyone and get hit by his fists of fury move)
3rd boss = ignore adds, 5x earth ele and just burn
4rd boss = same, just burn and ignore everything, he dies before you have to use the extra action button (I actually used shamanistic rage, both earth ele dmg reductions at the same time and clicked my extra action bar button on all 5 toons at the same time)

just stack the buff from the oozes and global everything up until the 2nd boss (including the first boss, he literally falls over)
2nd boss took a bit to work it out, but I basically ignore everything, I position myself to the far right on top, use the fire thingies on 1 toon and chain lightning everything down, when the boss comes i start nuking him from the top and then jump down, so i can tank him in the goo for extra dmg taken), a bit of a tricky thing to do but even if you lose a toon, it's easy enough to pull off
3rd boss = i make sure that all trash is down before i move to him, I use only bombs on my leader to kill trash (you can root/stun/knock it back), so when he shields I just keep running in circles avoiding bombs, while killing his shield with lightning bolts, and throw a bomb now and then on the trash, it's just a matter for me to rotate my earth elementals a bit (earth ele if talented has an aoe taunt, which is great for the adds)
4rd boss: i basically kill all the trash, then i run back 2 guys to the start, so whatever side he is on i can interrupt the knock back and burn him down with ascendance, it makes it a trivial fight
stormshout brewery:
burn everything to last boss, on last boss (i actually swap to my earthliving weapon to heal my earth elemental), if you get the boss where you need to bubble, i just run around and get a shield one by one, there is plenty of time with healing rain x5 and healing stream, the rest is just burning stuff down
temple of jade serpent
1st boss is just moving out, pop ascendance and spiritwalkers grace and go to town
2nd boss is trivial with conductivity
trash before 3rd boss is pretty fun as 5x ele, boss itself is tank and spank
last boss: decurse whatever you can, chain lightning in the dark phase, popping lust at the start here

this shaman team was sitting at lvl 87, levelled them to 90, and the next reset I was already 5x 505 ilvl+ (heroic scenarios are golden for multiboxers)
With current gear and ele shaman tools, it's really amazing what you can do. I feel like 5x improved arcane mages from cata (improved due to tanking abilities, incredible healing capabilities, and incredible defensive mechanics)

Nice! So, by solo H LK do you mean 1 shaman or your 5? I still haven't had time to try with my 10 man team.

Sweet!. What abilities do you macro? I thought I read once that you keep everything separate.. as if you were playing a solo shamy.

Dear Other Mods,

I moved this thread because the Boss Encounters forum is supposed to be organized into 1 thread per boss/instance and talk about strats for the instances. This doesn't really belong there since it's more about steamrolling instead of dealing with the mechanics of the fights.

1 shaman. I saw someone posting it on mmo with the strategy he used, figured to give it a try myself and it was not too hard (conductivity is sick here again, combined with stone bullwark totem)

I have different keybinds for all spells, but each keybind has a macro that does something. Since I want to play my shamans as if I was to play 1 solo, I want to avoid downtime. Say for example that on 3 of the 5 earth shock has reached 6+ stacks and on the other 2 there are 5 stacks. So the toons are actually busy casting, and given that they have slightly different haste values and lava surge procs, after a bit they will not be casting everything in synch. It will cast earth shock when there is no modifier active, and if shift is up it will iterate through a priority of lava burst followed by elemental blast and then lightning bolt. This means that I can spam this button for a second or 2, while alternating my pinky off and on the shift button, and all 5 shamans will do what I want (i.e. cast earth shock), but the toons who are in the middle of a cast or who already have used earth shock from the first press won't lose any downtime and keep doing what I want. The petattack is because I have my pets by default on passive on all my toons. Fire blast and immolate are the fire elemental abilities. As soon as I'm done with earth shock I move to my whatever spell I want to cast next macro (which are more or less similar to this one, just different details).

My fire totem keybind for example contains this macro:

Again, it's very likely that when I want to cast magma totem or searing totem, 1 toon is just starting a cast. so again I can alternate on this bind to spam between the modifiers I want. Totemic projection is macro'd right after magma totem since the green circle will appear the moment you cast magma, so easy to relocate. If I want to use searing totem then I alternate between spamming alt and shift for the same reason. But this one is easy to screw up since there is no gcd on magma totem, so it can happen that spamming will just renew it.

My chainlightning keybind is simple:

I'd like to have lava burst on cooldown when I go into ascendance, so it resets it's cd (basically an extra lava burst you get). So hitting the bind without a mod casts lava burst, then whatever mod I use will cast ascendance with blood fury, glove and trinket enchant. If I want a potion along side that and if I want to use elemental mastery I can use ctrl + bind. If I want ascendance without a pot and elemental mastery, but just with my fire ele totem then it's alt (I'm not often specced into EM btw).

This is for instance a macro I use to randomly hex trash:

Since my toons are never 100% on the exact same spot cq do not have the exact same camera angle, I like to mouseover hex. If used with alt it will hex my focus, if not it will check if there is a hexable mouseover target, if not it will just hex the target. Rather then spending time on assigning each shaman an individual target, I just move my mouse a bit around over trash. If they hex anything fine, if not I just proceed. It's obviously an instant hex while trying to steamroll.

So yeah long story short, I try to play my shamans as if I play them solo, with as much control as possible and with as little downtime as possible. Many of the macro's I use might not make sense to other players, but it's how I've grown accustomed to my binds/playing my solo shaman. I think it would be wrong to just copy/paste someones keybinds, as that is usually a thing that just grows over time. Which is a different thing than using 1 spammable macro's of course who can be used by anyone. For example for some stupid reason at the start of mop I started using earthquake and grounding totem on the same keybind with a mod macro, I guess just because in my head I mad the link between earth and ground in my native language. After using that for 2,5y it's hard to change that macro/bind, but I bet if a new user would copy that macro, he would ask questions about my mental condition.

(note typing these will in a Taxi in a traffic jam, so there might be typos in the macro's i didnt spot)

No worries Zenga, it was to the other mods since it was musical chairs for a while. Seems we can't agree where to put it either! ;)

i miss my sham so much. but i can not see paying out the cash without having my av :( even though there is a lot of other things i would like to try/do i do enjoy a good av weekend. so many good times lost :(

In Scholomance for Rattlegore you had no issues with Bone Armor? I couldn't manage this as each bone pile could only be used once as respawn time was silly, and it just comes off when hit anyway and I died pretty fast.. I am fresh 90 with my team though.

never did it on heroic but afaik its a magic debuff http://www.wowhead.com/spell=106113 and I used shamanistic rage glyph to remove it
