Is there a reliable way to copy all the settings (ingame keybindings, UI layout, ISboxer settings, etc..) to all of the characters in my team?
I keep running into problems where only 1 of my characters will be able to reliably control all of the others and i cant figure out why. I just want every character on my team to have the same layout and settings.
The IsBoxer settings, yes its just an xml file you can edit.
The WoW keybindings, UI, macros, etc, no that info is stored on Blizzard servers.
Though if you uncheck "use character specific" keybinds then you can reset them all back to default. Dont think you can do that with the UI.
You could delete/rename your WTF file.
Which means you have no Saved Variables, for any addons.
Then use Repeater/Broadcast to configure everyone to be exactly the same.
Anything that is account-wide, will be done for every team on all of the accounts.
If it is character specific, you can generally save a profile and then load that profile from the next character.
You can also go into WTF > Account > Character, and copy the Saved Variable file and then paste it for each successive character.
Things like Window Position for your chat window will need to be configured individually for each team you launch.
But you can launch a team that is already configured.
Create a blank Repeater Region to exactly mark where a given window is.
Then load one of the new characters on a different slot.
And sync the newly made Repeater Region, so you have an exact position to drag everything to on the new character.
Then go back to that character's set, and use their window position and repeater regions to line things up on other characters.
You'll only have to manually do this once, and only for things which aren't part of an addon with a Saved Variable file.
What I did aside from Ualaa's suggestion with copying the WTF files, is quite quick and easy. I delete all key binds, and settings so it is a totally new UI.
Either save your macros in the WTF file, or a notepad and reapply them later.
Turn on ISBoxer's option to have all keys & mouse movements copied on all windows.
Move all your bars, chat windows, health bars, etc.... To where you want on your main. Having the repeater turned on should allow you to do the exact same with all of your slaves.
Then to set key binds:
- Same classes I'll set up repeater regions and set the binds, macros, and anything class specific.
- Different classes one by one.
- Healer separately.
When I started a new team a while back I had more or less the same problem, with one big mess of UI settings and keybindings. I solved it by:
- Reset all keybindings,
- Remove WTF folder
- Clear ISBoxer config (after making a backup ...)
- Setup ISBoxer like a pro,
- Manage keybindings from ISBoxer (created a macroset for each class, containing a macro for each spell, keybound to num N),
- Start wow and use Ualaa's suggestion (turn on broadcasting and configure all addons for each character at the same time)
By moving keybindings config into ISBoxer you get a much more pleasant interface for managing your macros and keybindings, and it makes it easier to change something for all members of a certain group (class or role, whatever).
If you're like me and seem to accidentally drag a window around on one toon thus making broadcasting a pain because one toon is no longer aligned... there is an addon called ealign that can help. It paints a grid on the window. It makes it very easy to get precise alignment of the game menu ,error window, etc when you accidentally move one, once again you can click once with broadcasting for all toons.
