How likely is it that we will be able to box a full team of monks? Tank, healer, 3 dps or all dps? Is their combo system too difficult to use as a boxer (like rogues and ferals) or is it easier than that? Im hoping its easy, because I want to level a full team of monks for dungeon rolling or BG pvp. I really don't need another team of rogues that are just a gimmick for open world ganking. :(
Without being in the beta, I'd think it would be very likely you can box this team.
Ferals have combo points.
But they have a talent, where on a crit they receive two combo points instead of one.
So the acquisition of combo points is fairly random.
If you don't do a finisher, until some toons would have had eight combo points... that's DPS lost.
If you do your finisher with only four combo points, that's DPS lost too.
I was using an approximation...
Four moves (Mangle, Rake, Mangle, Mangle) before the finisher.
And that worked out quite well, as they'd almost always have five points each.
But you could do better, with video feeds if you use IS Boxer and go with a Full Screen Stacked layout.
Not sure that going to that amount of effort is worthwhile, as you'd have to be able to use combo points (or however their mechanic works... chi points) on each toon individually...
And that could be like tracking the WotLK Eclipse mechanic, with a toggle per Boomkin to determine which set of spells they should be casting.
I'd imagine if you play the tank.
Have a repeater region over the Healer, and use Grid/Vuhdo/Healbot.
And move the toons out of puddles of acid, etc...
While not necessarily playing optimal in every way, you're also not as stupid as numerous pugs will be...
And you'll be able to do most of the 5-man PvE content.
Plus, you can dual-spec them, so you have 5x DPS.
Or some similar combination...
Which gets you a fairly good PvP team.
Depending on how good your self healing is, while in melee...
Or maybe go with 1x Heals and 4x DPS, like numerous other teams.
Again, all speculation here.
But it makes sense.
No way to tell until we see a finished ability list. Could be viable for PvP, but they're still going to be mediocre for PvE. Ranged are just better for boxing PvE-wise. Blizzard is too fond of cleave mechanics.
Oh I dont mind avoiding cleaves, but I dont really care for combo systems. That's why I enjoy my DKs the most, but Ualaa makes some valid points on how to keep it relatively simple.
Playing paladins and dks in beta and omg they are both amazing. Ret pallys are insane- Sacred sheild(dmg absorb)+(30% crit to wog) makes it real easy to macro SS/wog. Repent is like almost like poly now, could be op sure it has a cast time(1.5) but can be spammed ala poly. Along with the aoe disorient, no cd hammer and other things, rets are lookin good.Quote:

Monks have a ridiculous amount of skills, but what is nice is that their skills don't change based on how much chi you have. So like a rogue can eviscerate, but if you do it at 2 combo points it sucks. Monks have skills that just need set amount of chi, so hopefully we can create 2 step processes that will just mash them all.
Well, we have a few very strong tools for ability usage.
We can go with a pseudo priority system.
Like the DK Manifesto.
Step 1.
- Ability A.
- IWT
Step 2.
- Ability A.
- Ability B.
- Ability B.
- Ability C.
- Ability D.
Mash that.. and we get more A's then B's, more B's then anything else except A, and roughly an equal amount of C/D/E/F's etc...
Or go with a two-step / three-step / four-set .... sequence.
Like the Toned / Mercurio macros which are stickies, in the macro forum.
Whatever Blizzard does (or if they don't do anything to the macro system), we'll find what works the best for boxing.
Yeah I'm still working on a priority system for the dps monks. I know one ability hits pretty hard, but the others are relatively close and can proc to consume no chi. Not quite sure how I can make it always save up 2 chi for the hard hitter and then still use the one chi moves. Obviously if no chi then you use the jab chi builder.
