LEGALITY: Keybinding and switching question.

I've recently set up 5 accounts, and I'm in the process of setting up my key binding strategy for them. My initial plan was to use a Nostromo n52 coupled with a Sidewinder Game Voice that I had lying around the house to send keystrokes to the game. Due to the recent posts on the board, I'm becoming concerned about whether or not what I have planned could be construed as automation. So I thought I'd detail my plans here since this seems to be where I can get a objective peer review. ;) Obviously I'll change my strategy if it's deemed to be an automated technique.

The Sidewinder Game Voice has 6 toggle buttons on its face. The buttons are labeled one through four, "All" and "Team". What I want to do is use these toggles to define where the keystrokes get sent. If the one, three, and four toggles are active the keystrokes would be sent to those party members and . To achieve this, I've been using ControllerMate with the following sample switching layout:

As you can see if a toggle is active it sends a specific keystroke in response to a key press on the Nostromo. The fact that I am potentially sending four different keystrokes in response to the single key press on the Nostromo is what has me concerned. To me, the toggle switches on the Sidewinder Game Voice are essentially modifier keys to determine which toon I want to be responding. However, the fact that different keystrokes are being sent may be a concern.

Lemme see if I can clarify for you.

1 keypress on main keyboard = 1 keypress to your main WoW = LEGAL
1 keypress on main keyboard = 1 keypress to each of 5 WoWs = LEGAL
1 keypress on main keyboard = 2 or more keypresses on any copy of WOW = ILLEGAL

I know what you're thinking but you're not doing anything through your setup (as you've described it) that you cannot do by moving your buttons around, using another hotbar or moving your fingers to another button.

The relevant rule here is NO AUTOMATION. If you're only getting one action per client per keypress then you're fine.

My main concern was the fact that one action was producing more than one 'signal' to each WoW instance. It was the usage of 'signal' in the WoW forums thread that got me thinking and of course made me cautious about my plan. As long as the community doesn't think it's an issue I'll move forward with it.

I've seen different opinions on this. Everyone agrees that multiple keypresses with delays are illegal, as is anything that circumvents the GCD or other game mechanics. Some people say that multiple keypresses with no delays are ok though, for example binding a formation key to strafe left + back on clone 1, strafe right + back on clone 2, etc. It would be great if there was a clear blue position on this.

More than one signals to each wow instance would be bad as far as I can tell. If you send one signal to each, you should be fine. Even if the one signal is different to each one.

Yeah, sorry I wrote that poorly. I meant that I'd be sending a distinct signal to each WoW instance. Hence the reference to multiple signals. The original language is confusing. I hope that clarifies things.

Is it sending an identical signal to all client windows or switching between them to send commands? Not automation.
Is it playing the game for you, or rather, for one of your client windows? Automation.
All hardware is considered neutral as long as its commands and features are not being used to automate gameplay.
