Do you guys still play one character ever?

I'm loving dual boxing so far (3 ele shamans), I'm currently bored as I'm all quested out at level 82.6 and PvP xp is horrible.

Anyway, it seems like I can have a much higher level of play on one character. I'm sure it will always be this way, but if I stick to it will I still be proficient at all 3?

Back in Wrath I would raid with my pally, then multibox heroics.

Higher level of play, sure. There's no doubt it's easier to give all your attention to one character than it is to split it among multiples. But there's also a lot to be said for the average multiboxer against the average non-multiboxer. Back in the day, when I sucked more at multiboxing, I was still outperforming single-played guildmates in raiding and dungeons.

All you have to do is look around here to see people excelling while multiboxing. We've got PvP teams with high ratings season after season. We've got multiboxers who raid current content with just their own multiboxed group, or a handful of boxers and those who multibox half the raid for their otherwise "normal" guild. We've got people who've tackled and succeeded at normal and heroic 5mans before a good chunk of the population was even done leveling. And there's tons of people who multibox other, more personal progressions, like Exalted or Lore Master, or mount farming...even alt farming and profession farming.

There's also lots of multiboxers who break up their teams and solo raid or solo PVP or just wander around looking at flowers. If you're burnt out on something, by all means take a break. Play one character or try something different. Your slaves don't have feelings, they won't feel neglected...though you could end up like me someday. I feel naked if I don't have a swarm of slaves following my main around. ;)

i dont ever play solo anymore, ever...if i can't play all 5/10 i'm not even going to log on. that's just me personally though.

I quit/took a break from boxing and only solo play mainly a feral atm. I always still played 1 character to either join 4 others for BG or a HC/raid.

It's a game you play because you want to enjoy yourself (I hope), so do whatever you like. Get 50k Critter kills on a lvl 1 gnome if that's what you like.

I go through spurts of time where I box and solo.

My guild is not a MB guild. matter of fact, I dont know any on my server... Right now, I play a priest or pally solo with my guildmates in Firelands, and then I will take a day to do all 7/7 guild challenges via boxing. They love me cause I am basically single handedly leveling our guild in dungeons. I think, once I get into Outlands, the balance will shift, and I will box more than solo.

Comes and goes.

Like Apps, I go through periods where I play a single character, and periods where I multibox. At the moment I'm playing a rogue solo and just enjoying the rep/PVP grind. At some point the itch to multibox will become to strong to ignore and I'll start doing that again.

Cool, thanks for the input guys. It is much appreciated. It is good to know there is a place multiboxers can come and chat in peace. There seem to be a lot of people that are either amazed or extremely hateful towards us. Thanks for everyone's hard work, this site seems like a great resource that I will be able to use quite a bit.

I am looking forward to gearing my triple shamans at 85. I've only been able to stick around 2200 on single characters, but could never get farther due to a lack of partners. I'm hoping I can at least get to 1800 with triple ele sham this season.

My real concern is that I can't kite. One of the main ele shaman buffs was LB while moving. I haven't spent much time researching this yet as I am not 85, but I saw a thread talking about circle strafing around a target.

At this point I'm hoping I can just burn someone down quick enough to make it a 3v2. Should be fun though!

I raid on my resto druid and I am levelling 5 druids multibox.

I love both styles of play, couldn't imagine giving up one for the other. Playing on a single character, you get more of an RPG-feel where you actually feel attached to your character and how he or she grows and gets more poweful (and has a story, if you RP). And it's more possible to min/max and play a single character to the fullest in terms of raiding or PvP. And I love socializing with my friends in the guild. I have a blast either doing the 25 man raids, or 10 mans on weekends with a smaller, closer group, or even running Zandalari heroics with my RL friends, using Ventrilo of course.

With multiboxing, it's all you, there's little or no interaction with other players. But this is a good thing sometimes. I never, ever, pug using the dungeon finder and I wouldn't on my main either. I find it very challenging and engaging, and it requires a lot of ingenuity in the setup and class composition. For almost every class it will boil down more or less to spamming a single button for a non-optimal DPS rotation, but things like healing, tanking, and movement will take up all our attention. Movement is one of those big things that single boxers take for granted.

However, multiboxing feels lonely. And my five identical characters with nearly identical names seem to have less "personality" than a single character. So I consider multiboxing to be just one of my solitary hobbies. If I want to play with friends I play on my single character. If I don't want to be disturbed by anyone, and just want to kick ass with 15 treants and 5 Typhoons knocking everything back indefinitely, I play my druid team :)

Edit: One thing I'll never go back to, however, is 2, 3, or 4-boxing. It seems to only result in the worst of both worlds. On one hand, there's the difficulty of multiboxing combined with the asshattery of PuGs, and the fact that you can't run dungeons or setup macros at your own pace as you have 1-3 other people waiting for you. And for PvP, smaller numbers of toons doesn't give enough burst damage to actually outweigh the disadvantages of multiboxing. So only 1-box, or 5-box for me (maybe 10-boxing if I had the money).

I play solo in new games to see how stable the engine is, check out the standard gameplay, etc. Basically, I single-box as a trial to see if it's even worth multiboxing. Otherwise, I can't imagine not being able to run my own group in MMOs.
