So, I have two 5-box sets to 60 (or so) now. I am trying to get as many desired combinations as I want to 60 before RAF expires.
My plan is to level any new teams to 31, and grant them to 60.
Here's what I have so far:
4 shaman + 1 paladin
5 druid
Here's what I need help with:
4 __(Warlocks?)__ + 1 __(healer)__
5 __(Rogues? What would be fun for 5?)__

Warlocks can basically play three different styles.
If you go Demo, you're essentially a BM Hunter.
In this case, five locks would be as good as four.
Glyph and talent Health Funnel, and use that + Life Drain for pet heals.
You could go any healer quite well.
If you go Destro, you're basically mages who want to nuke things down.
Again just about any healer would work, since the Locks will Life Tap for mana.
And then the healer can heal away.
A Resto shammy might be an idea, as Mana Tide helps the whole group.
And Healing Stream totem is passive healing for the Life Taps.
If you go Affliction, you are primarily a DOT team.
Sure Haunt and Unstable Affliction have cast times.
But you'd primarily Agony/Corruption on things, not even stopping.
Run to the next mob and Agony/Corruption it too.
Usually play with 5-10 mobs wanting to kill your team.
Have Howl of Terror on round-robin.
So a mobile healer would be ideal; Druid or Priest comes to mind.
The priest will get AoE fear (Psychic Scream) quite a bit before the Warlocks can talent Howl to be instant.
5x Rogues would level well.
Not sure it would be that playable at higher levels.
Sure you could gank in cities, with great stealth.
And re-stealth somewhat reliably, even in combat.
Aside from the re-stealth capability, I'd say Feral Cats are superior to box.
Both have strong DPS, but Ferals can heal/rez/battlerez, which puts them over the top.
My advice is to level as many sets of classes as possible given your current situation (time left on raf, boosting, etc.). Grant levels to wherever you need to fill a gap. This may be boring to grind levels the whole time, but it will give you the most flexibility for the future. What you find fun today, you might not find fun tomorrow. Or, maybe you want to try a new class combo for a change of pace or to try out certain encounters. Doing the up-front work while you have raf, will save you a huge headache later.
So you're saying aim for each class on each account, so any combination including a 5box of the same class can be done later on down the road? It's a good idea, no doubt.Quote:

Tonight i will have ten 60s on my #1 account. My fivee accts are linked a>b>c>d>e. I thought about doing what you mentioned, leveling them up to 30 or 31. The problem is that you're stuck with a level 31 on acct five. Then if you level another team to 31 youve got two 31s on five and a 31 on four because you havent yet leveled another 60 on acct five to grant that new 31 on four up to 60. Eventually you'd have something like this:

You could probably have even more 60s on acct 1 and or 2 because of the cascading grantable levels. I couldnt figure out a way around this without paying to transfer lots of 60s off acct 1 to the other accts. I have ten 60s on acct one but maybe six on acct five, plus a 31 on acct five because i tried what you mentioned and granted the others in his team up to 60. Now im stuck with a lvl 31 auction house mage.
Having just finished my raf fun, id recommend getiing 5 locks up and parking them around the world to help summon your teams to cut down on travel time the next time around. Yes you can raf summon but only linked accts. Acct one cant summon anybody but acct 2. Having locks makes it easy to summon yourself because their portal thing will keep working after they log out.
Just level several teams up to 60. Then on accts one - four, grant up classes that suck to box but that you might want to try anyway someday (rogues!). I would made sure to have at the very least a druid, paladin, warrior, and priest on every account. I leveled all my teams with a warrior or paladin tank. I ended up with a 60 druid, paladin, warrior, priest, shaman, lock, and dk on all five accts. I have four 60 hunters, mages and rogues on the first four accts. I leveled seven teams to 60, one after another. It gets old but youre under a time constraint you cant extend. I did five locks, then five druids. After that it was all tank/3dps/healer groups. After cataclysm the under-60 elite quest mobs are a joke though so you can do 5x any class now. I kept doing the traditional group comp just for practice and to try pre-bc dungeons which is a complete waste of time if you care about speed.
Sorry for the rambling reply.
TL;DR version - you cant just level to 31. The real power of raf is the 300% xp, not the grantable levels. Use the levels for rogues or missing warriors. You have to level all accts to 60 to have many full teams.
I leveled six full teams plus a dk team. I have three 60 hunters, two 60 rogues, and four 60 mages. Now the numbers add up.
Even this has a problem because acct five only has seven 60s and acct one has ten. Acct two has nine, i think, acct three has eight, and accts four and five have seven. All toons past the seventh are out of luck as far as 5boxing goes unless i either delete the extras and level entire teams again or wait until i have some 80+ toons on acct one and boost up toons to fill vacancies on accts two-five.
The bottom line is that if you want to be able to box any class and use raf, you have to pay to tranfer toons around after granting or just be satisfied with the xp gain.
One last thought. I agree with Kang. Level everything while you can and just grant to fill gaps.
I would level everything except rogues. Others may have had success boxing them but i tried and failed several times. Grant four of them up on accts one-four. If you really want 5 rogues, level a rogue up as the leader on acct five with the other four members being ranged or casters. Use the rogue as the 'tank' while you level. This is going to mean youre missing a caster or hunter or acct five though unless you grant up one and tranfer it over. In that case though you could have just granted up a fifth rogue and avoided leveling a mixed team. I hope you have enjoyed this stream of consciousness post.
dont forget if you roll 5 dks you can pretty much get them to lvl 61/62 ish right thru the starter zone for them, plus they're a lot of fun!
i recommend that you take at LEAST 1 pally up to lvl 60... so you can run 4 dks 1 pally, which seems to be the latest greatest setup
if you intend to do rogues i'd run one druid and 4 rogues, but you've already got a druid, so perhaps another healer for that group, priest comes to mind... people like to come after priests out in the open, so he'd be the perfect bait to pcik off the poor sucker who tries to ggank you lol.
mages are good to have too, lots of fun doing things like pvp with them. if you go with warlocks, they can be a lot of fun too, they look hella cool in demon form * 4 or 5 lol :)
ima agree with kasurahama on this one last point, i would level 5 of everything except rogues.
5 pallys pre cata was a ton of fun too, and they're fun to level sooo :) they might be a good idea as well !
Definitely level up a lot of combinations, while you have RAF.
I did:
- Druids, Hunters, Priests, Shamans.
And had a month of RAF left, but did not use it for additional teams.
Since then, I wish I had done:
- Paladins, Mages and Warlocks.
Have actually started a Priest + 4x Warlock team (22nd).
And have been thinking of 5x Paladins and/or 5x Mages.
The druids RAF'd Boomkin, but are Feral so 5x Rogues are less tempting.
The DK's, weren't done during RAF.
But they're another team since then.
Nothing is wasted; even though the Hunters and Priests aren't played.
With the 4.x changes, Priests are quite fun and likely will be played.
They've both acted as 5 Transmute spec Alchemists.
Have made over 100k from each of the RAF teams, just during WotLK...
The more combinations, the more flexibility you have down the road.
I'm currently running these compositions; if any sound fun or interesting, it might be worthwhile leveling the relevant classes yourself (or if anyone else's combo sounds fun/interesting too).
- 5x Feral Druids
- 1x Disc Priest, 4x Frost DK's.
- 1x Blood DK, 1x Arcane Mage, 1x Resto Druid, 1x Resto Shaman, 1x Destro Warlock.
- 1x Prot/Holy Paladin, 4x Elem. Shaman.
- 1x Disc Priest, 4x Warlocks (spec undecided between Affliction/Demo).
- 5x Disc Priests (likely end up 4x Disc + 1x Tank)
- 5x BM Hunters
Druids, 84th, 525 Alchemy.
Priest/DK's, 80th, 485 Alchemy.
Mixed PvE, 80th, 485 Alchemy.
Prot/Shamans, 80th, 485 Alchemy.
Disc/Warlocks, 22nd, 0 Alchemy.
Priests, 75th, 485 Alchemy.
Hunters, 75th, 485 Alchemy.
