Is it possible to unlock the chests in lvl 70 instances.
If it is, does the raw mats cost of the bomb outweigh the potential items in said chests?
A side note: I've been thinking about grabbing up engineering on one shaman just for shits and giggles, but if there is some practicality... all the better.
In a nutshell, its worth it.
Pretty simple math really. The C4 charge cost less than 3g each, and every chest has at least 5-6g in straight coin. Plus potions, greens/blues, etc.
On my server, primal fire = 25g, primal earth = 5g, and fel iron bar = 1g. So the cost break down is:
1 mote of fire 2.5g
2 mote of earth 1g
8 fel iron bar 8g
This makes 2 batches, or 4 elemental seaforium charge, so cost is 2g 87s 5c each.
I'm working on a 5 x engy team at the moment, mainly for 5 x flying machines, goggles, rocket launchers and Area 52 Dimensional Rippers. Not to mention 5 x those little bomb pets would look pretty cool.

Raw mats needed are 8 x fel iron ore (to make 4 fel iron bars), 1 x mote of fire, 2 x mote of earth. This will give you 2 charges.
They also open the doors in shattered halls, letting you bypass several mobs.
The hard part here (for me at least) is getting Revered with Consortium to buy the plans in the first place. Either you have to farm drops (mind numbing) or do Heroic Mana Tombs. (I don't think I'm well geared enough for this option)
