Yet Another Beginners Question Thread
Forgive me for posting this, because I'm sure most of this has been asked, but finding specific info can be rather trying.
First, the forums are great and got a ton of info here. Love the site, and the concept. I know people who do it, I've seen a five-boxer in Outlands and it was just insane to watch. Looked like a hell of a lot of fun and damn amusing. Made me want to do it.
So I got a trial account to see how it would run, and things ran fine on my computer, better than I thought they would. Saw no difference in performance. I have a 2.4GHz dual-core, 2GB RAM, 8800GTX KO ACS3, 24" and 19" widescreen LCD's. I tried it out today with the basics. Made a copy of WoW folder, and things worked great. But now comes to making things easier, as I was just mousing over to the second window to do commands.
First thing I want to do, before I go jumping into my dream plan of doing multiple Warlocks or Warriors all at once, is to do the carebear thing. I have a level 64 Holy Pally and would love to have it following around a newbie Warrior. Pally could basically make up the only weaknesses I have with a Warrior, lack of healing, debuffing, and buffing. Paladin would offer awesome support for a leveling Warrior.
I looked at both Keyclone and AutoHotkey, and both look interesting, but Keyclone looks much simplier to use. Before I go buying, I just want to see how it works. Does it work with the Logitech G15 (original version)?
Could I say set up G1 to G18 to do things on the second account in any way? Or would that be a AutoHotkey thing? I know Keyclone basically just makes it press the same key on both, but didn't know if you can have some way of making use of those G keys.
If not, I'm guessing the best way to do it would be to have on my Pally the say 9 to = keys do things like cast healing, cleanse, etc. and leave those blank on my Warrior, or keys that would cause any unwanted results.
Does follow wear out, such as it would just stop following after a while? As long as a press a key every now and again should I be okay? I know in the old days (I just got back to playing WoW in 2.3, hadn't played since pre-TBC, raiding got boring) follow would stop following after a while when a friend went AFK and was following me, or vice versa. So didn't know if follow has a time limit, or keeps following as long as you press a key in before the AFK mode kicks in.
Is there a good use, that won't get me banned, for the Logitech G keys?
Would be nice if Blizzard or an addon, supported them as simply extra keys you can bind things to. That would be very helpful.
Any suggestions of ways to make carebear leveling easier would be helpful. I grabbed the TwoBox Toolkit, but it doesn't seem like anything special or especially useful. I already use a lot of addon's, so I'm always ready for another.
Also about dual-core CPU. I use Vista 32 and should I assign each running of WoW to a core, or should Vista and WoW handle the CPU assignments okay on their own? I didn't notice any issues when trying it out this morning.
Thanks for any help and suggestions. Hope to start power-leveling a few characters. Seems like a blast and a new way to do the same old thing I've done before many times.
Kudos to those with the amazing videos, they are a blast to watch, and can't wait for the person who does their own five or ten box runs of instances.

yes keyclone can do this, I currently do it with a G15 and a nostromo game pad just fine

only if you the one following stays afk for so long (like you dont do anything and he gets flagged) you will eventually disconnect but it takes like 30min of NO action for that to happen

yes, just set groups of keys to each G key, for example have G1 be Ctrl-shift-1, G2 be Ctrl-shift-2. Then in WoW when you want to bind that key just go to the keybindings menu and hit that key on the keyboard. Make sure not to put in any time delays when you are setting up the G15 since it may be viewed as botting and it slows things down a bit.

the beauty of it is the communication your alts will give to your main regarding what they are doing, like acceptings quests, resurrecting, /follow and so on. not required at all just kind of handy, especially if you play a lot of chars at once.

Keyclone allows you to specify CPU affinity, it certainly doesn't hurt to do it.
