This seems like a new topic, but it might have come up a few years back?
I haven't done arena since BC, but I remember fighting teams that were purely designed to outlast the other team, especially in 5s. They ran 2 pure healers, hybrid healers, and did not allow the other team to get a kill. Then when your team was low mana, cooldowns etc, they'd mop up. They were vulnerable to 4 dps teams, but I remember it being more of a wash and user error determining the match. This was around the 1600-1800 bracket or so. I never broke 1900.
I've boxed this is bgs, running 3-5 trees or 3-5 resto shaman, mainly when I was leveling and too low to contribute. it's hilarious to watch magma totems burn people down as your healing totems and chain heals put out massive numbers.
Has anyone tried this in arena? 5 resto shaman, let the other team swarm, heal through it and wear them down with aoe and weaker, but focus fired, nukes? I was also running some math on paper with 3 resto and 2 elemental, or 2 resto 3 elemental. The contrarian in me is tempted to try 4 healers and a nuker :-)
I haven't geared or dual specced my shaman and before i commit to the time i'd like a couple pros to point out the obvious wall i'm about to crash into.
most of what i've read on the forums is how to insta-gibb and then clean up. Has anyone tried making the match as long as possible? Or is that not on the table in WOTLK?
