What should I link?

This may be an easy question & answer... But I need some coercion.

Here is the schpeel:

Account A) Has a Level 80 Paladin (Prot)

- 5100 GS Prot Gear
- 4500 GS Ret

Account B-D (or E) : Unlinked

Here is the problem:


The Paladin is an old friends account and obviously, the name will be different.
So I am looking to get a new main account, under my name and get prepared for Cataclysm.

So I am not sure if I want to use my Pally for linking any of the accounts. The only thing I am not sure of, is how to go about linking them.

If I use the Pally, obviously I can boost them to 60 and hammer out a few toons. If I decide to go with the full 5-Box, no boosting.

If I use the Pally to boost, should I just boost as many as I can to at least 65ish, or go with the full 5-Boxing and start from the beginning.


Now, as for the linking.

I plan on 'having' a main. But I do enjoy multiboxing as much as playing a main, you know?

If I go with Option 1: My main account would be a fresh account.
I guess, long story short. If you had a Prot Pally that you can boost with, that you don't plan on using it as your 'main' account, what would you do for linking and levels?

You can't use the paladin for your team, if you don't want to get the account banned. It's a to big risk if you ask me.

I'm not completly understanding you, but i'd say you have 2 options.

1. Make all accounts on your friend's name and use the paladin in the team.
2. make 5 new accounts on your name and boost with the paladin. Once they're 65 or so you can leave the friends account inactive.

I'd go for option 2. If you boost several teams up, then that's a good way to get rid of the problem that only 4 chars fit in the party where you want 5 to get boosted. It's very advised to use the RAF while you can :)
I regret it i didn't.

Make sure you've thought through what characters you want on each account. It can be handy to have a 'tank' account, a 'healer' account and 3 dps accounts. That way you'll never have problems missing out a healer or so. But downside is that if you have for example a paladin and a warrior on the tank account, you'll never be able to tank with the warrior and heal with the paladin.

If I could have used RAF (not allowed in my country) - I forsure would have lv. 5 druid`s or paladin`s = tank - dps - healer on every account.

But make sure to use RAF while y can - as Littleburst did write.

I would start over fresh if I were you. When I first started multiboxing back in bc, I used multiple accounts from inactive friends. I put a lot of work into it then got perma banned for account sharing. I was so angry and devastated I quit wow for a couple years. I finally came back with wrath and did it properly.

I'll recommend a fresh toon, that is entirely yours.

That said, if you're sure the friend will never want the Paladin back ever, no matter what... you could attempt to merge the account the Paladin is on, onto your existing battlenet account (probably its own B.Net account, but in your name).



If the only purpose of the toon is for boosting...
You'd probably be better off run it to whatever instance on its own, and then run your team there on their own. Be grouped so you end up in the same instance and boost away.
You'll eventually have Paladin + ABCD (your four accounts).. and can go with E (your fifth account, RAF linked to one of your four, down the road).

I wouldn't recommend playing with the pally and your toons, in any outdoor area.. as you will be reported fairly regularly and the first thing the GM's check is that the names are the same on each account.
Better safe then to have five accounts banned/suspended.

With 5 accounts, boosting won't be as simple due to instance limitations. So how would I go about utilizing the Paladin for boosting, and then get the 5 toons up and running?

Make four accounts, use the Paladin to boost to boost several sets to 60th.
Maybe boost to 70th or so, once you're done with teams to 60th.

Then you should have a tanking type (Bear/Pally) around 70th, with decent (Northrend) gear.
Who can boost your fifth account (RAF link to the last account in the Pally set, as that account had no granted levels, so the least number of toons.)

Well I won't be boosting at all.

I will be leveling 5 toons from the ground up.

So, what would be the best way to link them all?


I would like to evenly spread the toons across the accounts.

I used the search a fair bit, but most of the threads I found were linking eachother around having a booster.

If you don't have a booster, probably go with a chain:
A >> B >> C >> D >> E

Ideally level a tank type toon in the first set, on account A.
Level 61-62, with a lot of the Hellfire gear will be a decent tank for lower content.
So even if you're not a geared 80th, you can boost subsequent toons through Scarlet Monastery... which gets you 1st to 45th in a relatively short time.
Then you can have the tank type help them run quests or whatever.

Boosting will still be your best bet for leveling.
You just won't be able to boost to 60th or whatever.

Once you get a bunch of teams to 60th, mess around with the granted levels.
Cascade granted levels won't work out into full toons across the board.
But you'll get a toon on each account (except E) for every two that are leveled.
If you were to level a team, use it to boost three more, and then level grant two toons per account, that's a decent start.

Definitely have a team which will be decent for PvE.
Ideally, this team will level first, run a bunch of heroics and get PvE gear, so they can do heroics fairly quickly.
Then run heroics for heirloom gear.
Specifically the 10% experience (badge) chest piece.
Depending on how often your faction controls Wintergrasp, also pick up the 10% experience (Stone Keeper Shards or Badge) shoulders.

I went with Cloth Chest/Shoulders (caster stats) and Leather Chest/Shoulders (melee stats).
I don't really mind Hunters or Death Knights wearing leather chest/shoulders; the armor blows, but the stats are relevant and the bonus experience is all I care about.
If you don't have the patience for both cloth and leather BoA gear, go with cloth only; with 5x toons, you'll level way faster then with plate chest/shoulders and no 20% experience bonus.
