When do I break out my 80 tank?

I know I've seen some posts along these lines in the past, but now that I need the info I am having trouble finding it. Right now I am leveling a dk +4X ret group (currently all 70-71). I have a somewhat geared 80 dk tank waiting in the wings, and I was just using the lower level dk with the group so that I could learn how everyone worked together as I leveled.

My question is, at what point (if any) would it make sense to swap out the low level dk for the 80? From what I remember reading in the past there is a certain point where the exp loss from having a high level char in the group won't hurt that much anymore, and then I would be able to clear instances much easier etc...

As long as the mobs are within 10 levels (I think its 10) of your level 80 then there should be no XP loss.

Quickest way to find out, fly your tank around northrend until you find out what the lowest level mobs are still green to your tank. Once your team is only taking on mobs of that level or above thats when you sub out your tank.

I thought they had to be green to the level 80 which is the mobs need to be 74 or something like that.
you can take your level 70-71 to some place where the 80 can kill the mobs and get good xp. the elite worms in NW dragonblight are good and some of the mobs around camps just N-NE of Naxx.

Yep thats right, I just cant remember what that level is :P Hence my flying around northrend till you find it.

The only question really is.... do you want the 5th toon, who is similar/same level to the 4x who are leveling, to level up?

If you have 4x level 72 that you want to reach 80th... well you could level 5x level 72's, even if the 5th was not a DK. Or if you'll only care about the 4x who are joining an existing 80, then bring the 80 in sooner.

Level 72 are green to an 80. I just recently ran Kara which has alot of level 72 mobs.
