Tri-Mage Best spec for 3s arena?

So i was planning on stopping to farm and practice in the 79 bracket until the later months but i think 80 arena practice would be better.

Im currently spec'd deep arcane with pom pyro w/ WiF for crit x3

Most single targets "unless its a geared tank" will die with 3x pyro and 3x AB, what im wodnerign is would it be better for arena for me to spec deep fire for 3x LB and pom?

Possibly even frost? I luv the instant nuke of the pom spec, it think frost would be alot slower and with bots possibly worse.

Anyone hav tips for a decent spec i could use in 3v3 arena? i want to work with sumthng for the next few months and get all my shit together, i like my spec now but am open to anyones suggestions.

Ps: i knwo my gear is shit cuz ill be a fresh 80. Im not looking to win every match its just for rpactice and finding the best route to take for the future.

I've spent almost the entirety of WotLK with arcane mages, I'll share some of the things I've learned as I worked the kinks out of my mages to an 8K DPS each self buffed war machine.

I'll give you one piece of advice up front that i've learned with running my mages. Get out of the fire tree with deep arcane.

You should AT MOST have 3 points into fire as deep arcane. Pyroblast is terrible now, use your presence of mind on an arcane blast. With it having zero travel time and hardly any graphic to it some people won't even realize they just got destroyed. My mages are fairly well geared with a triumph emblem / pvp mix and my record SELF BUFFED crit with arcane blast is 21k on ONE MAGE :)

Plus on top of the huge instant damage it buffs your next arcane spell. As a bonus if you throw an arcane barrage and follow it immediately with PoM+AB they will land at perfect timing for an unhealable instant kill and give your next arcane barrage a damage bonus.

One downside to PoM now is that it shares a short cooldown with arcane power to prevent arcane power + PoM combos that were way op in arena. Currently I prefer to use arcane power first in 5's cause it gives me plenty of punch to knock out more than one person; in 3v3 however you might expiriment a couple different ways. I would always knock out melee dps as your first target as they are especially painful and you might consider an arcane barrage followed by PoM+arcane blast on the first dps near you to leave you 3v2 and then just pump the second target full of arcane barrages and fire blasts while round robin counterspelling the healer..... holy crap just thinking about that makes me want to try 3's with my mages lol.

Here's some specs and primary team design i have tried with decent success. Keep in mind I run my own disc priest with a 4 mage team with these so YMMV.

Deep arcane defense:

This is as mobile as a caster can get. Defense rarely gets this good on arcane mages. You still have your general arcane mage idea but toss in the defense of running almost all instant spells. With improved dampen magic and mana shield + keep your fire or frost ward up and you don't have to worry as much about going splat.

This is the big DPS build. There are flexible points in this build so tailor it to your liking but the gerenal idea is improved dampen magic + improved wards give you some staying power but getting icy veins + arcane power allows you to spam more damage than other builds. With really good haste gear my mages pull over 8K DPS on heroic bosses with a PvE version of this build. If you really want a crazy good build thats hard to play consider going down to shatter in the frost tree while keeping full arcane to arcane barrage. With plenty of frost novas and frost armor etc. you can shatter your arcane spells for some big damage.

I haven't played with this build too much and I also have the 4th mage + mouse broadcasting which really makes this build shine. With the very high aoe damage any of your fire spells can put out plus the huge hits if you get a chance to fireball someone and glyphed scorch spam in a pinch you can wipe the opposing faction at the bosses in AV if you get some good hits off. Play with this spec a bit in Wintergrasp or AV / Isle of conquest and let me know if you like it or improve it. instant flamestrikes between dragons breath and blastwave really mow down big groups.

Those are just some basic suggestions. Of course play whatever spec / style make it fun for you but i've found those specs to be big winners and I look forward to another mage boxer to share ideas with !!!

P.S. some opener suggestions. Make a key that does 2x spellsteal + slow to open on deep arcane and get the torment the weak benefit + a nice buff strip.
Or bind something like
/cast arena1 slow
/cast arena2 slow
/cast arena3 slow
and keep their whole team a little less dangerous.

you might think of making one of them Frost, so u can use the pet for a ranged frost nova, which can be devastating. or even all frost to keep them round robin stunned.....

Best bet is to try it a few different ways and see what works best for you. I bet 3 invisible mages that pop out of invis with glyphed mirror image then a good instant nuke as mentioned above, barrage, then PoM Arcane blast on one target, and throw 3 more ABs at another, and hope you nuke someone.

Thank you, those tips were very helpful, i found that my first 10 matches (me being geared in blue quality frostsavage going up against full furios teams) i had absolutely no chance... but im gonna work on some macros and practice practice practice.

Also, does thee ahppen to be an add-on that will tell me when any of my bots proc missile barrage? im only using one moniter and my 2 other account windows only just showing about 5% so i can quite see them when it procs

Glad to hear your giving them a shot. 3v3 might be a bit more gear demanding than 5v5 but I think it has promise for mages. Keep us posted!

Side note: Please don't call them bots :) Even if it's just your pet name for your slaves / toons / etc. I don't like seeing that term thrown around here.
